Thank you for the link. One thing I can see off the bat that the map resolution is pretty tiny on the MS stuff 16 x 16 where the Adaptronic is 16 x 32. Doesn't this make a difference in the final tune, and how the car runs?

18psi 01-02-2014 12:20 PM

not nearly as much as you think. pretty much not at all

Braineack 01-02-2014 12:27 PM

there's probably 500 MS users and maybe 10 adaptronic users on this site alone, what does that say?

That looks soooo much fun to tune!

If you really care or want you can make the MS use more tables to extend the number of cells. Unless you're spending $1000 a month on dyno tuning, it probably wont make a difference.

Yeah, that would suck. I'm still using a MS1. I love its elegant simplicity. Or maybe its utilitarian austerity. Or its basic functionality.

I really want a MS3 Basic.

I don't always tune, but when I do I drive and scroll.

concealer404 01-02-2014 02:35 PM

Street tuning by yourself is for peasants.

Peasants that know what they're doing and care about their cars.

I like tuning the MX6 better.

Step 1: Adjustment
If lean, more fuel
If Rich = more boost

Step 2: More boost

Repeat Steps 1 and 2 until turbo or fuel is tapped out, whichever comes first.

Based on the comments here, I have a feeling this has more to do with forum member's budgets more than anything.

I can see that most people who aren't using an actual professional( and no I don't mean just some guys with a dyno)might not care about map resolution, but there are some of us who want the best of our our cars, and aren't worried about skimping on a few hundred dollars. I understand the ecu will interpolate between the cells, but if it didn't actually matter why not just have 8 x 8...
It makes sense as SixShooter said that for the DIY guy, it sounds like MS might be the way to go as it is " elegant simplicity ".

I'm not trying to start a fight, but I didn't post this in the MS section, as I'm not interested in that unit, or units based on those units.

Been waiting for Travis to respond....

It's not a budget thing. We have megasquirt users with ridiculously expensive turbo setups. Many of them.

Megasquirt is the most supported ecu on these cars, period.

Regardless, adaptronic is dead. You want resolution, you want a Haltech, Syvecs, or maybe Aem Infinity. Or Motec, whatever.

Have you noticed how many of us actually BOUGHT one, tuned it, used it, then sold it and got a MS?

Cause its not just me, trust me.

As for the tuning and cells comments, that's just silly comments by someone that has zero clue and thinks that more $$$ and more cells means better product no exceptions.

You should actually go through the process of doing all this and come back and share your feedback. You'll learn a few things along the way that will completely re-shape your current (very uneducated and n00bish) opinion.

That said, I'm not knocking adaptronic. At the time it was a great unit, and the only real pnp solution for us NB guys. And for most setups it works great. When you start doing things that the VERY few adaptronic users haven't done yet though, it gets real difficult real fast. The support and knowledge base is nowhere near that of MS for an adaptronic on a miata. Among a few other reasons, that one was the big one that finally got me to jump ship.

I had no idea how much that mattered until I started trying things others haven't tried before (at that specific time it was running e85, then other things) and boy was it frustrating asking questions that no one had answers to or really dealt with

Adaptronic: "Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated!”

There's a lot more user support for MS and it has a long history with MX5s so it's the #1 choice for DIYers.

I have an Adaptronic e440 Select ECU and chose it because at the time I bought it, it was the latest Adaptronic ECU and built specifically for the MSM - feature-wise the available MS was a dinosaur so it was a "no-brainer" for me.

Most Adaptronic users get their ECUs professionally tuned but it's nice to have the ability to tweak it yourself if you want.

After I went through the map and fixed the settings correctly it has been running like a champ.

That people are cheap. Take a look at how many people pick the MS because its cheap.. For gods sake theres people on this forum that have specifically looked for MS1 because they dont wanna penny up for an MS2..

18psi 01-03-2014 01:14 AM

You two should go all out and measure e-peenz in 10 rpm / 10 kpa increments :giggle:

triple88a 01-03-2014 01:23 AM

That could be arranged :D
