New Product Alpha Testing Feelers
Hi everyone,
Boundary Engineering is putting out feelers for alpha testing a new oil pump relief valve system. The new design is slated to have the following exciting features!
1) virtually a self cleaning design
2) highly stick resistant
3) improved flow
4) made from high strength stainless steels
5) adaptable to retrofit existing 1.8L oil pumps
The requirements will be listed when the product is ready for testing but basically we need data logging and the ability to do some light road tests at some point. No high performance testing until beta.
Obviously there is a very real risk in testing anything in the lubrication system. This is alpha testing which means the valve system has never been in a vehicle. We would prefer testing on an engine that is scheduled to be rebuilt. You will need to return the test pump after the testing for analysis.
Testers will receive a new high volume pump with billet gears as compensation after the test.
We are a few weeks away before test units will be built. There will be more details as we get closer as long as there is interest.

Stuart my project is far from complete but, i dished out the cash when i had it to get the blue printed pump, when your done testing and if all goes well can i send my pump in to be upgraded? can i retrofit it my self? hopefully you find a tester soon!

The new unit is designed to be a plug and play retrofit to any Mazda 1.8 oil pump, not just Boundary pumps.
If no one is interested in alpha testing, maybe there will be an interest in beta testing. One way or another, this unit will be tested in the real world before being released to manufacturing.
In the next few weeks we will be putting out feelers for beta testing another new product. But you will have to wait for that announcement.

from the 01 service manual:
removing the oil pan can't be done with the motor in the car.... or if it is, without the subframe in the car.
1. Remove the timing belt. (See 01–10–10 TIMING BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
2. Remove the timing belt pulley.
3. Remove the oil pan. (See 01–11–4 OIL PAN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
4. Remove the A/C compressor with the pipe still connected.
5. Remove the A/C compressor bracket.
6. Remove the generator.
7. Remove in the order indicated in the table.

Same here, I have an engine waiting to go into my Miata. It's a 1.6 though, but a fresh rebuild, I've just been too lazy to put it in and too poor to pay someone else. However... I did get a decent tax return...
