any more details on the engine itself?

Sounds pretty smooth (besides the ignition issue)

lightened crank has me intrigued.
any info on the balance? tolerance for the balance that you used?

Building my own engine right meow. :)

Oh boy, you asking hard questions. I did most of the grinding and shaping of the crank (old school). I have all the info as well as the balancing that I will need to dig up. It's been 2 or 3 years since all that got done. Even on my previous engines I have noticed than a simple balance does wonders if they have everything (crank pulley and flywheel/pressure plate combo.

Anyways I'll dig up the info and post it when I get a chance!

New video with the ignition fixed and a bit of tuning:

Thanks!

Any pics and weight of the final crank as well? Very interested in building my engine to beast spec.

dat throttle response.

Can't wait for you to get this thing tuned.

That is smoooooth

Well I have found the paperwork. There are numbers on there, not sure the units (the numbers don't make sense). Have emailed my buddy at the machine shop. I don't have any weight of the final crank. I believe I took a note somewhere, but that's before balancing. I've moved since so will have to dig through.

As for pictures, I might have a picture of it already installed, but didn't carry my camera with me back then and wasn't using the iPhone camera much until later on. So that might be all you will get!

The throttle response is pretty darn amazing which I am pretty happy with. We shall see how it does under boost. It runs pretty smooth too when I sat in it considering it is basically solid mounted.

Don't have the pedal connected to the TB yet. Will have to figure something out there! Put the body panels on Saturday and had a few people over to check out the car. I will fit the front panels and shape the hood and then the engine comes out for final welding and girding and powder coating the chassis!

Wow sounds really good considering its not exactly tuned yet.

bcrx7 01-24-2014 01:18 PM

Thanks!

The valve cover cut off and the Toda racing intake cam gears are here. So hopefully I'll get some time to weld that on and try the COP and sequential this weekend!

Now to hopefully get the WHP gains the an 8374 should get over your 6758! Then we are well into 5 and 600! Time for some 114 or 118 gas!

at least you have the drivetrain for it :giggle:

bcrx7 01-24-2014 01:51 PM

Not sure about that transmission! It doesn't take the abuse of the RX-7's on the track and they don't make as much torque. I have a feeling it might last me 2 or maybe 3 weekends.

bcrx7 01-24-2014 11:56 PM

Toda racing cam gear is on and I have welded the cam sensor mount on too and painted the valve cover. Will post a picture tomorrow once the paint is dry! COP here I come!

I second the awesomeness of having bal/crank/rods/pistons/flywheel/clutch pressure plate(All the rotating mass I suppose you could shorten it too) balanced and I had my crank micro polished.
I didn't lighten the crank though. I threw around the idea of knife edging but everyone said it'd be no good and make the crank weak. Dafuq is going on here?
Though even I'm not optimally lightened like you. Mine revs fast as hell.

So whens the day I'm going to blow my load and watch the dyno video?

If I come across $3-4000, I'll have a Chevy TKO-600 in my car. The quicktime bellhousing (RM-4097) theoretically allows it to bolt on to a BP.

bcrx7 01-26-2014 02:08 PM

2 Attachment(s)
Dyno is probably a couple of months away I would say!

Yeah, I have been looking at the TKO-600 with that bell housing. There is also the TKO-750 which is a beefed up TKO-600. Have to find out how the shifting is as there is mixed info about the TKO's not shifting very well above 6000 rpm without modification.

The valve cover is painted and and cam sensor is mounted. Will have to wire up today and hopefully the sequential/COP will work!

Holy that runs much better on COP and sequential! It starts very quick and revs mad quick too! The throttle response is much better than before even.

Have the turbo speed sensor hooked up too!

I'm surprised you're running the pcv port vent after all the trouble bundy had on a car that isnt even as fast as yours is going to be.

The port is running to the exhaust after the muffle with a check valve! We shall see how that works.

bcrx7 01-27-2014 11:38 PM

And video of the car running with a better camera (I think). The engine is all done now officially. Time to finish the chassis!
