The 2560 will do close to 25 psi... just won't be as much power as the 2860 at that boost level...

Baby steps yo. You'll get there some day if you hate your pocket book enough.

I luckily avoided the builk of the cost buy buying a decently built car already. Didn't have to buy the 3.6 gears/6 speed/built motor/ARTech/turbo/MS3x/suspension bits etc etc.

Made it a little easier to swallow the bulk of the turbo miata cost.

Well it took cutting one of my 15mm wrenches into a 3" stubby to get the last nut off but here it is like I thought. Blown oil seal. Was soaked in oil.

I forgot it is much harder removing the turbo and downpipe with the engine IN the car.

Huh, so that's what a turbine wheel looks like before it eats a throttle body screw.

That was such shitty luck Ian. Of all the things to ruin a motor and turbo...

At least your latest iteration should be bomb proof with how methodical your build is progressing. Going to be putting out some serious power with your new turbo.

a "blown" oil seal wont bend a turbine shaft like that.

like shown in the video. If the bearing cartridge was both replaced and that same turbine reinstalled, it would still wobble like that.

I'm going with oil starvation, that's a pretty typical result of it.

think about how the shaft rides in this:

It does look bent. Or was just the amount of play allowing the shaft to move around while it was rotating? Or it could be bent - hard to believe it would be bent AND have that much play and still not made contact wit the housing though.

sounds like you hear the oil guard behidn the turbine chime on the first spin, I'd look to see if there's any contact on the bottom edge of the turbine blades.

Yours is coming. I did go overboard on yours, but the shipping was delayed due to a bizarre health problem that hit me out of nowhere.
I've had to go to the hospital several times over the last two weeks, so I didn't get everybody's shipped when I planned.
It's coming. Maybe in more than one sense.

Also, a word of caution. That grey tape is extraordinarily sticky to itself, and it is very stretchy. Once it sticks to itself, you aren't going to get it unstuck, so be careful about folding it over.

This is roughly what happened from the police report:

It was taken for a joy ride, slid off the road at +/-110 mph, did 3 complete revolutions before it went off the road, slid down the road embarrassed kment, tires dug into the soft sand on the drivers side and flipped onto the roof, thereby totaling the car.

I'm hoping enough speed was scrubbed to make the impact on the roof not terrible but that is wishful thinking. It tore the bead of the tire off one of the wheels and there is damage to every panel.

I talked to the tow guy last night and asked him to pop the hood and look at the engine for me and he said the cold air intake was a bit smashed but other than that nothing looked damaged. He said the car was able to roll onto the flatbed after putting it into neutral but one wheel(and I'm guessing control arm) is pushed in a bit. Rear diff isn't leaking, but I'm also guessing since it was in gear at the time of impact that one of the gears might be toast as well.

Damnit now I'm shaking in anger again.
I'm sure you're asking yourself "Why did I put a rollbar in?" If only you hadn't, the a**holes who "test drove" the car would've gotten what they richly deserved.
