On the mud guards, I've found that the painted rears hold up great (mine are at ~5 years on a tracked 212K car). The fronts are lower and will scrape and bend. I ended up amputating the lowest flexible part of my fronts. Need to get them repainted.

Btw. i have my Trisha-Project car inthe same state (front fenders off) atm. and I just finished a coat of Fluid film Fluid FilmŪ | Corrosion Preventative, Lubricant and Rust Inhibitor followed by a coat of Perma Film PERMA FILM - about us - both product come from the marine industry and are very much the holy grail in rust protection on oldtimers over here...
Just to say, as long as you have the fenders of anyway, you could protect them a bit more... Greets |

Sounds almost like interior panel wax spray. Never heard of it before.
Need to research that stuff a little simply due to the fact that it sounds interesting. Not sure how it works with it not "drying". Hornet nailed it on the head though. 0% humidity and being a high elevation arid desert climate the car will never have a problem as long as it isn't driven during the winter. I like how it is able to be sprayed in nooks and crannies though! |

Soaking the steering rack mid-section in rust remover to pull rust off the threads and the joint. Saying that I got the steering column put in.

Diverted my attention again. I have cleaning ADD.
Got rid of all the nasty on the rubber shift boot and cleaned all the old grease out of the shifter ball joint. Also painted the steering rack segment and cleaned all the sand/grease out of the boot. The vinyl shift boot is torn so I am going to replicate it in leather later. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1392322944 No more rust and protected. about the wheel - give it to a pro, its one of those things that has to be done flawlessly or it will bother you for the rest of your life about those rails - no need with hard top, but I did reinstall mine beause they are what the carpet clips onto. if you don't mind the carpet not to be fastened down back there, leave em off. about the console - covering in leather is baller status. less baller status is taking good quality plastic/vinyl paint to it. did that in wife's tsx and was surprised with how clean it came out, but I'd expect it to wear down in about a year |

I removed my rails when I took out the softtop. Carpet stays in place well enough without the clips. You'd never even notice unless you were looking.
Think of it as a minor weight savings. |

For the belt tension, on its longest length you shouldn't be able to twist it more than 90deg.
