I poured 2 quarts in and its not up to the shifter ball. Is this fine?

I'm stupid and its early.

aidandj 07-09-2015 10:32 AM

I have to get this done before my gf gets back from school. So some time in the morning. Leave work early and get er done. Fluids are in. Need to put in the 2 starter bolts. A couple more trans bolts and buy another driveshaft bolt (again). Then the downpipe which takes forever.

aidandj 07-09-2015 10:33 AM

Also, HUGE thanks to @yank first time swapping a tranny and it would have been a lot harder without him. His 6 ton jack stands made a difference too.

Fuk ya.

While that's possible, I do it with a hose running down to the fill hole and a funnel in the engine bay, because I don't want to risk spilling tranny oil on my seats. :)

Honestly, both work fine. I'm scared to death of removing the wrong plug and destroying my 6 speed. Because that's how my life works. ;)

That, and I can never find my funnel when I need it.

aidandj 07-09-2015 01:21 PM

Im going to go spray paint that bolt red when I get home :)

Hm. It's not hard, it's the one above the drain plug. You had to have found the drain plug, otherwise you shouldn't be filling it at all! :)

Nonononono. You always pull the fill plug first. If you drain the fluid and then can't get the fill plug out you fucked up big time.

I got my acceleration back. The car has felt sluggish since I put in the 3.9. This changed that. Its got the kick in the ass that I was missing. On the other hand I hate shifting the 6 speed. hornetball 07-10-2015 10:34 AM

Looks like my garage. Do you get female spillage into it yet? That's what really messes things up.

aidandj 07-10-2015 10:51 AM

No female spillage yet. I have 4 roommates and have managed to keep none of their stuff in there somehow...shows how much shit I have. With the rest of the auction car interior, and new welder its gonna get tight.
Thanks to G I remembered to get driveshaft bolts this morning.
For future reference I run 3/8-16-1" grade 8 bolts with a lock washer and nut as my replacement Miata driveshaft bolts.

curly 07-10-2015 11:17 AM

It's called organization, you have none. I'll be you $20 I have more useable tools and storage in my single car garage.

5S's, tell me they taught you those in engineering school.

Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain. Look it up.

aidandj 07-10-2015 11:20 AM

I have 4 S's. I'm horrible at sustaining though. Its a lot cleaner after I clean up from a project. 5 speed needs to go back in its corner. Tools need to be picked up. Vacuum needs to find a fucking home. I hate trying to organize a shop vac. It spreads everywhere. I'm not an organized person lol. Doesn't work like that. So I just take up a lot of space lol.
I'm also not allowed to bring car parts inside. So the rest of the auction car is going there too.

curly 07-10-2015 11:53 AM

Oh man, I found an awesome wall mounted shop vac at Sears. I really wish I had found it because now I can't. Had a great hose hanging method and everything. I think it was the only logical shop vac design I've ever seen.
