I had started collecting turbo parts for our NA, but this swap has me seriously reconsidering. There may be a glut of VVT engines on the AZ market...
Yeah and I've been on the lookout for a sub 80k mile K24Z3 in the junkyards as well. For the price they go at I'm buying two and having one on standby lol.
What's your time-frame on the swap? I'm thinking you'll get to it before me.... so if you wanna like figure out how the detuning goes and then let me know...... that'd be grrrreeeatttt
I, too, am seriously considering the K24Z3 swap. I'm glad it was announced before I started any attempt at making power with a N/A BP.
I'm hoping the prices of the motors don't start going up as we all try to snag every junkyard motor we can!
Even if they were double the cost they are now it'd still be cheap for replacements. Plus there seem to be a ton of them. I'm not worried about it.

Well, as soon as possible. Just waiting for the pre-order form to drop and hopefully I'm one of the first ones. I'd like to have it done before 2020.
Just doesn't make sense to stick with the BP now that I can get a K series into the car with the stock subframe. If I want big power down the line, I'd much rather boost a 400 dollar stock K24 and have it still be more reliable than completely building a BP lol.
Alright. First step was pre-ordering and paying for the kit, now here's the second step. Just picked up these bad boys, one to go in the car and one for a spare because they're so cheap.
They were $350 each, one has 109k miles and the other has 111k miles. One said it had a compression test done and it was 215psi across the board and came from a car with a slight front driver impact, the other one said it ran when removed but didn't have a compression test, car had pretty good rear end damage. Both looked clean under the oil caps for what it's worth but other than that they were already on pallets at the yard so I won't know more until I open them up. Thinking of doing leakdown tests and using whichever is better. They had one more engine there for a little cheaper but it looked like it had been in a car that lit on fire from a front passenger impact so I skipped that one. Probably a waste having two spares anyways since they are hopefully super reliable.
I scored two good VVT engines for $1100 once... this makes me feel like I got ripped off.
Yeah and then consider how much more money you'd have to spend to get to 200WHP naturally aspirated, but by then it's a time bomb and about the same amount invested as it would have taken to K swap.

Holy crap, this is the most informative website ever! There are apparently 6 K24Z3s in a yard 20 miles away, all under 90k miles for $500 each. Cheaper ones further away, but with more mileage and gas would have to be factored in to go get them. Guess I need to get off my *** and make this happen, thank you sir! I'll definitely be continuing to follow along as you keep working toward this.
So I've decided to try to video and document most of this swap to start uploading to my YouTube channel as well.
Got a little area set up in the garage and my Dad and I started tearing into the car. We're finding a lot of weight that can come out as well.
Short list of general ideas of where the build is headed:
Link G4+ Fury ECU
AIM PDM32 Kit (10" Dash Display and Power Distribution Module with Logging/Lap Data)
Mk60 Teves ABS possibly? It's legal for ST4/TT4. Then this would also enable the use of the Link's pretty comprehensive traction control strategies as well by dumping wheel speed inputs to the ECU.
Wire the entire car from scratch.
I've decided while the chassis is this far stripped down, I might as well take a shot at stitch welding the thing. So that's where I'm at right now.
I've finally decided on going with an Emtron SL4 for the ECU and an AIM PDM32 which includes a 10" dash display and is a full logger and GPS lap timer with accelerometers and the whole 9 yards.

I'll be one selling mine for sure. As well as the ITB setup... As well as the MK Turbo kit... Damn my accountant for the timing of my tax refunds, damn Kmiata for making this an affordable option, and damn the government for the stimulus check that I will be spending with questionable responsibility...
Alright, been selling off some old parts and acquiring some new parts and tools.
I picked up a couple of welders recently and dove into the learning process. Also completed my first project which was welding in the subframe reinforcement plates.
I got a Lincoln ProMIG 140 from Lowe's, seems to be a great little 110v machine, used it to do subframe reinforcements and now stitch welding the chassis.
First welds, tried flux core then .025 solid with gas.
Subframe reinforcements. I went back and closed the corners later.
Then I picked up a tig machine. I had originally placed a pre order for an AHP AlphaTIG 201xd but saw in the FB group that the customer support isn't quite what it used to be and they seem to have a lot of problems with high frequency start boards. That's when I stumbled on the PrimeWeld TIG225x and I cancelled the AHP order. They're almost the same price too.
Things it has that the AHP doesnt:
25 more amps.
Comes with a genuine CK Worldwide 17 flex torch and CK superflex hose with dinse connector.
Up and Down slope control for 4t operation
Pre-flow control.
And their customer service is crazy good.
Here are some of my first tig welds ever on steel and then aluminum. I sucked horribly which was to be expected but I just need some time to sit down and practice.
