I'm not sure which rom you're using, but if I remember correctly some of the fairly developed ones (tephra?) do have additional features to dial this stuff in.

it's been at least a year or two since I touched an evo8, don't remember what all ecuflash/evoscan has available these days.
Right on. Thanks for the feedback. I guess before I can get to further tuning of the engine, I have to first tune the knock sensor

Yeah, I will be going to Tephramod real soon. Tephra is pretty great in that you can set the CEL to flash on knock, AND adjust the threshold at which it flashes. So the developer of Tephra knew of the issues of knock sensors registering false knock commonly enough to program in a protocol to reduce data noise.

Plus, with Tephra you can do this:

I think this says it all.. what do you think? This was a short log of me revving the car in neutral. I mostly focused on hitting 3-3.5k RPM. There are knocksum counts of mid 20's. Doesn't seem possible to have knock that high under zero load, correct?

Forgive me if it was mentioned somewhere along the way, but in regards to the SSL door cards, where did you happen to source those from? I have a buddy with an Evo that I shared your thread with and he is now searching high and low for some and is coming up empty handed everywhere, any input would be appreciated!

Also, amazing looking build thus far, keep up the great work!

Thanks for the kind words!

I think I just got lucky... I hopped on eBay looking for a set, there was a mint condition full set for sale that hadn't sold in over 38 days, so I bought it. $250 shipped. Now, I can't find any anywhere either.

Here's the vendor I got mine from, hopefully they'll list some new ones. 2003-2005 MITSUBISHI EVOLUTION 8 DOOR CARD PANEL LEFT LH EVO 03-05 DRIVER FRONT | eBay

I would just keep scouring eBay and the forums until a set pops up. They are pretty rare, but well worth it.

You and my brother will have to make a trip to mexico. He is currently building a 2010 STI Hatch. Darton Sleeves, I beam rods, JE pistons, garret 3582r. should be in the ballpark of 700whp in kill mode.

EQ wrenching on it? 700 is really pushing a 3582. odd choice imo

not sure what EQ is but no.

Speed Element in San Jose is doing all the work. Its being tuned by mike at GST in Hayward.

I almost had my car done at Speed Element. I know they do great work. Sounds like a pretty epic build, 700whp sounds insanity... what is he doing as far as the block is concerned? I know those EJ's don't take to kindly to that much power...

I agree, that is an odd choice, he will be hard pressed to make 700awhp with a Garret 35r. I ran a Precision 6265 @~41psi to make roughly 730awhp in a 2.3L DISI and I watched a handful of folks with high hopes and 35Rs max their turbos around 650whp. Hopefully he has some magic up his sleeve or just happened to already own the turbo lol

ya he already owned the turbo. He will take what he can get power wise. Like I said, he will be maxing the turbo out in "kill mode". So whether that's 600 or 700 that will be kill mode.

He he wants to drive the car on the street at 500, which is completely doable with this turbo

On e85, sure. Anyways no worries speed element and gst are good people and I'm sure it will be a beast regardless, anything over a true/proper 450 in those is fast in my book. I just figured the kids these days are going the closed deck + precision or EFR route which seems to be a relatively proven approach.

I'm in the middle of rebuilding a 450-500whp setup for a kid right now, and it consistently runs mid 11's at 125 with average driving.
I think the evo on e85 and "kill mode" should be somewhere around there too. Those 4g heads just keep on breathing.

As much as he wanted to go efr, he just didn't have the coin, which might seem silly considering the build extent that he's going to but it's not my car so

The evo 8-9 motors are beast. I was telling him that he should have just started with one to begin with but he liked the subie better as a well rounded package, which is understandable. He also has a soft spot for them sense his fist real car was a 02 bugeye that I loved. The thing cornered like it was on rails! Even on Continental DWs it was seriously insane how well it cornered. That car was a stock motor aside from a slightly bigger turbo (can't remember exactly which one) and a Cobb accessport. It had cusco coilovers (it was stiff as ****), sway bars, and a large amount of camber (not stance, but a lot of usable camber).

Anyways, I loved that car, but he likes big power, so he sold it and bought was he thought was a Cosworth STI (his current car). Long story short, the engine had to be rebuilt due to low oil, and when they pulled the engine apart they found that it was NOT a Cosworth block. It just had regular forged internals. Which he was not happy about. And it wasn't any better that the internals that came out couldnt be reused because they won't hold up to his power goals.

So now here we are, waiting for the car to be done so he can

Having some fun, just sharing :-)
Car performed fantastically.. solid low temperatures, after running hard all day. Got a good feel for the car, and what still needs to be tweaked and fixed up. Better alignment needed.

Needs more tuning, cooling for the 6 speed transmission, track pads, wider wheels and stickier tires.

What's the point in owning a cool car if you don't beat on it a bit? Learning how to get the rear out in with the AWD system... almost understeered into the horse stable that the camera was mounted on... I got the hang of it though. Had a ton of fun yesterday finding new roads, and found some dirt trails too.
