Made it out this weekend. I was in town and the weather was great so I enjoyed the new rear end. Everything has been great- Gears are nice and normally spaced, my freeway pulls feel much stronger and I'm not sitting at 4400 on the freeway anymore.
The Flyin Miata Clutch is still holding strong and I can't really say enough good things about it. Great engagement, not too heavy and overall I'm extremely happy with the performance. Kudos once more to the guys at FM. Some friends of mine moved into a shop so I stopped by to check it out. Cool concept- Live in the shop type of situation. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1334080186 During my travels I ran into DirtyTurbo - http://img577.imageshack.us/img577/8791/img4035.png https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1334080186 A couple of cool shots with the toys while I was at the shop. My friend has some good taste in color schemes too.. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1334080186 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1334080186 |
Live-in-the-shop situation? That sounds kind of awesome, and kind of dirty at the same time; the kitchen particularly.

Picked up some new parts for a weekend project. Heat has been an issue in the past so in prep for some upcoming track events I've decided to be a bit pro-active.
My eBay radiator fan will likely do just fine but It's fan/shroud setup is lacking. Picked up myself the Mishimoto fan/shroud setup. It's affordable looks great and will certainly do the job. Miatas don't make the best parts vehicles... https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1334589385 Here was the previous setup, a couple of fans strapped to the rad: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1334589385 Gave me some room but didn't do much for pulling heat: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1334589385 This is actually how excited I get about new parts: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1334589385 The setup looks pretty nice. Bigger motors on the fans and it came with the install hardware and materials: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1334589385 Installation was not super easy. It took a bit to get the shroud down in there without uninstalling every thing around it. I probably should have just saved myself the grief and pulled my radiator out. I also picked up a couple of other goodies: New radiator cap- Old one was sitting in oil for a minute at one point and the seals were about shot from expansion. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1334589385 Mishimoto power steering reservoir. The old one was just fine but I plan to relocate this at some point. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1334589385 Some 1.5 inch t bolts to replace the worm style clamps on my rad hoses. Unnecessary but nice to have. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1334589385 Everything installed: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1334589385 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1334589385 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1334589385 |
Looks great man! Build just keeps getting sexier and sexier.

Thank you! Appreciate it.

The next step was brakes. Found out later in the game that I have the "Sports Suspension" package. This means my Rotors, calipers and pads are all larger than the standard setup. This also unfortunately means that nobody stocks the rotors.
My choice of parts:
Sourced the pads from someone online: http://www.miataforumz.com/attachmen...ine=1334591214 Pulled her in and got to work: A buddy decided to join me by wrenching on his evo. White cars for the win. http://www.miataforumz.com/attachmen...ine=1334591214 The install went pretty smooth. I ended up replacing the passenger front wheel bearing. There was some play and I had noticed some noise while rolling but brushed it off as tire/road noise. New wheel bearing (hence the new studs) and my brakes were done. I sprayed the hats so they don't rust and look like crap in a week. http://www.miataforumz.com/attachmen...ine=1334591214 http://www.miataforumz.com/attachmen...ine=1334591214 Bedded them in and we were all set. |
That evo is gorgeous
Wicked white for the win |
What paint did you use for the rotors?

I quit...The way you spend and your attention to detail makes me feel like my car belongs on CR...watching your build is almost UN-motivating, because my attempts would seem futile in comparison.

I would suggest an OEM radiator cap, those mishimoto units are prone to leaking, and it's a only $2 insurance.
Otherwise it looks great. Concentrate on ducting forward of the radiator, although if it's all stock body work up there you should be good. Try to think of your car standing on it's rear bumper. If you pour water in the nose, will it all go through the radiator, or chose an easier route? |
