Car has been put through its paces quite a bit.
Dual drivers at AutoX, Dual drivers at a few races, DD for Sav, grocery getter duty sometimes...
I've raced it a few times. Handles perfect. Extremely neutral and predictable. Could use a bit more power (but I always want more power).
This is the car you throw your grandma in and show her how to drive around the track, but it's also the car Sav uses to quash lap times in.
It's an absolute blast to drive.

Been having too much fun with it to update. Mostly done, we will make small tweaks to it as we develop new parts, etc. It will get an IM and cams over the winter, it's just on a stock '01 manifold and stock cams for now. With ~120whp, it's capable of Spec Miata record laptimes with a 200lb passenger, a full interior, and A/C.
If you're curious, take it out for a day and see how much fun a simple, well-prepped Miata can be. $600/day, $1000/weekend at most of the tracks in California, which includes transportation to and from the track and use of the car for the day. You pay for gas, flatspotted tires, and any damage, we take care of the rest. It's a great option for someone who doesn't have/doesn't want a rollbar, or doesn't want to put the wear and tear on their daily driver, or for a turbo owner who wants to see if they can learn something about their favorite track. It's an absolutely awesome teaching tool - my dad has done a bunch of laps in it and he's faster in this car than he ever was in his E46 M3. I've done a couple of sessions in it back to back with my black car and taught myself a few things too.

TSE's rental is built on much the simple no-brainer kind of formula as our rental.
Grip, grip and more grip. Add a dash of very useable power, pull a little weight out, add some more grip and go beat up on GT3's. Set up right, with a good driver, I'd wager TSE's could lap any common track faster than about 95% of the F/I Miata "track" cars in the US. Extend that to a 30 minute session and I'd bump that to 99.5%.
As a driver training tool, this kind of car hits a sweet spot somewhere between 145-160whp and about 2200lbs dry. Key ingredients are just good shocks, 9's, 225 NT01's the right sway bars and alignment. That's about 80% of the speed difference to a stock Miata right there.
So yeah no turbo

Oh what suspension is it using?
I'm going to be using koni race shocks, ebay sleeves, qa1 springs, fcm bumpstops, isc racing tophats on the 97. Trying out the setup on an SSM car on the 14th, he's replacing it with some JRZ double adjustables
Im hoping this suspension will be a good mix so it can handle local autox's and track events. Correct me if Im wrong but Savington didn't you use that setup for a good while on your black car?
