Colipto's BP to K swap build thread

.. Interesting...

This appears to be about the same, if not better then the K miata flywheel / adapter... significantly cheaper at $825 vs a whopping 1500$ - they also have one for a 350/370z trans
I'm hoping i can use this to cut some costs, and a few other things along the way. ... it really might be easier to just go Honda at this point.. but I'd like to keep a miata if possible..

Today, I did my first purchase towards the k swap.... Lots of planning has been taking place..i just picked this up, excited to get started
k24a2 - 150k
Really debating if i want to keep the bottom end of the k24a2.....I really wanted the head, I want to stick that onto the k24z3 bottom end so i can pick up a cheap 300$ engines in the future. I dont want to run into the issue of having to swap the whole k miata oil pan / motor mounts because i cant find another cheap engine... I got lucky with this one id say.
That also means i get to get the 50 degree VTC gear for free off the z3... Alot easier to get a turbo manifold on the a2 head as well

HOW in the world do i change this thread title? .. Might be worth making a new one considering this is the 3rd car / a completely different build in progress?
Just started making a little progress on this - Mainly waiting on the important parts from David of Kmiata - K SWAP basic kit, along with Getrag kit, and BMW 5 Speed
Long list of to do things like Learning to weld! parting out current NB / NA parts.

Guess I'll post a small update since I have made some progress, and it also helps me remember / stay on track!
I now have the full driveline I'll be running. the k24a2 - ZF 320 5 speed and getrag 3.23 differential, for the adapter plate and flywheel, I decided to go with the PMC motorsports option and still undecided on which clutch to get.. seems like its either a 5 puck or 6 puck.. I'm leaning towards the 6 puck ACT HD rated at 530/FTlbs being offered by k miata. However there is the option of the 5 puck which supports 589.9 FTlbs offered by PMC motorsports... I'm expecting to push this to 600hp~. I'll pull the trigger on that this week so i can have all the parts to hopefully drop in the motor by the end of NEXT month.
The basic kit from k miata has finally arrived ( thanks david / sarah ) - just have to get my *** to work on putting together the engine / transmission and dropping it into the car. Thankfully the old engine / transmission that was in the car were removed a few weeks ago and the only thing left is to remove the rear end differential and axles while I wait on my getrag differential kit to arrive and I should have most if not all of the important bits together before I hit some serious walls on fabricating my own turbo setup.
The plan is to go with a T3 .64 ar Pulsar Gen 2 3584, DIY top mount / DIY 3 inch exhaust with whatever muffler MK turbo uses with a exhaust cutout.. I loved how it used to sound and the only thing missing for me was the option to really hear the engine roar if I so desired .
Some pics, all mileage appeared to be under 150k~

Okay, I finally seem to have found motivation for progress on this... after multiple failures
started making progress this past week, so I should be progressing much faster.. going to stick with short updates with a lot of images.
- motor pic before going through it
I cannot stress how many times i had to go back and fix the rocker assembly.... not to mention how many times it fell completely apart... Make sure you RTV the back of the assembly.. seems like there was originally some hondabond on there and several people miss this
out of all the instructional vids only 1 online vid covered this spot at the back of the rocker assembly.
k20 Pump installed, ready for kmiata pan
50 degree vtc with tractuff limiter installed, motor timed and lubed up, new gaskets curtesy of
Where i currently am: Need to clean up the valve covers and throw them on.. then i can wrap the rest of the motor up and get into the harder things like welding..

sooo i completed this motor it has been sitting for well over (health issues), i spent a lot of time reassembling it carefully.. iran into an issue with the upper coolant neck which was briefly resolved by kmiata customer support. sometime in feb.... i have the A2 setup and a Z3 was sent
In April i attacked the rear side of the engine, all seals were replaced, engine is ready to drop in after test fitting the trans / clutch... ( still need to pull the carpet too, but most of the interior is apart as I was already working on AC components
sitting like this for over a year...
Jumped back into the chassis after a year and started getting things in order again.. main focus is the charge wiring harness which shouldn't be too much of a challenge after looking at the installation guide tips.. my only confusion is if there's a difference between the k20 and k24 starter.. still have some research to do on that.
I have a RSX wiring harness so the pinouts could be different just like the sensors need to be k20.. (edit: per https://kpower.industries/pages/build-planning-guide either can be used but the k20 would be easier for me since thats the harness i have.
for now i have taken apart and depowered the steering rack ( the adjustment **** holding the pinion was a bitch to get off thanks to rust.) i rounded it off and got it off with a pipe wrench in the end after putting it on my vice... Going to get a replacement from a local pick a part junkyard tomorrow..
Hoping to be able to drop in the engine with the trans / diff also as i have all parts already on hand.
