Welp just a quick update a buddy of mine has a good short block that he is going to let me use. I am in the process of buying a home at the moment so I need to keep it cheap for the moment. I do plan to have a more aggressive setup just want to get out of my apartment and small garage and into my own property and bigger garage. This week and next week I will be pulling the motor and swapping stuff over. New gaskets should be here Tuesday.

Well an update after pulling the motor and swapping the blocks the car is back on the road and I corrected some of the areas I was struggling in with my tune. There were a couple high peak areas where I was adv too much. I learned a lot about tuning and TS on the last block and still would like to learn even more before I go ***** deep into my wallet on exp parts. I made a decision until I get pretty damn good at tuning Im not going to blow (hehe) more money on a forged bottom if I cant tune it properly. Im not one of those people that takes it to tuner and forks over 500+ dollars. I'd rather show up to the dyno and finalize the tune myself.

BEFORE

This was how shitty my VE looked right before the bearing went. I didnt completely understand all the things I was doing and pretty much just ran VEAL and left it. Car pulled hard and sounded good but wasnt looking right. Seems like VEAL was trying to correct something wrong in the AE settings and Ign table.

AFTER

After swapping bottom ends. I spent a lot of time researching why the last bottom ends bearing could have gone and why compression started dropping. I researched and read lots and lots of post and then data logged the new motor. I found the AE settings were **** and the spark map was too far adv for the motor.

In my research I have seen several people run more aggressive maps than this and been fine, but each motor is different. I will probably make a det can like Ricks in his writeup and tune the map even more. This is my spark map now

Looks pretty conservative. Wierd spike in your earlier VE table.

I use as little AE as I can get away with. It's really just a bandaid to get over lean stumbles. Much more important around the off-idle area than when the motor is spun up.

Yeah Im using barely any AE right now but I still needed more than what I was running. Between adjusting that and pulling some timing I got that spike to relax a little. Im going to keep running logs and work with it this week since Im on vacation. I went driving through the hill country this morning before the heat kicked in. Was nice to be back in the car. I also changed my boost target so im not hitting 10psi unless at 50+tps. Thats helped alot with take off and cruising around but still gets down and boogies when I want it to.

Im probably going to make a run to Radioshack later in the week and use your diy to make myself a det can.

Damn dude, huge bummer on the rebuilt motor letting loose. I bet the crank is ovalized, OR just too big of clearances for stock bearings. Did you plastigauge anything? Always plastigauge oil clearances, dawg.

Also, sup with the paint? You flat black this thing? I though it was looking pretty nice with the OEM black before, but it still looks kickass in the most recent pic so +1.

Yeah I had tons of scratches that were not so descriptive in the pics. I was getting rust as well so I sanded the whole car down to metal and primed and then sprayed it with a HF spray gun. Which sucked *** so I sanded that down with 2000 and then put a coat of rustoleum semigloss down with a high density roller. I also bought a new hood and cut a whole by the turbo and added mesh to it. The heat shield protects the turbo from water and my water temps have dropped a **** ton. I noticed with the extractor that I was cooling down well at idle but not so much on the highway. Now I cool down well at Idle and have great cooling on the highway cause air isn't wanting to bypass the radiator as much(so I think). Anyway car is much more reliable now. I need to post the dyno results.

So first Ill start with an updated pic of my dog Torsen. This dog is so ****** cool guys. He sits on the couch like a human. LOL this isn't a trick or anything this is purely his personality. Its hilarious when we have guest over and they don't know him and the lil **** goes and sit on the couch. I die laughing every time I see their reactions. Such a great dog.

Next I upgraded from 15x7 Drag DR-20s with Direzza 101s to 15x8 20mm Konig Wideopens with Nitto NT-05s.

Holy **** I have traction again. I forgot what thats like lol I have LC set up now to 2800 and builds 10psi in about 1-1.5secs and grips concrete. Also Im not fish tailing in 2nd gear anymore.

After that got very confident and decided to cut the rear bumper. Notice the inner rice in me painted the bracing white under neath( i had a moment)

Next Ill post some side shots

Also I forgot to mention I bought a new daily. A 14 Hyundai Gen Coupe 3.8 R Spec. Comes with a torsen and brembos. Car is surprisingly fun to drive around town. Was looking into ST, FRS, but they just didn't do it for me. I wanted an NC but wife said no. :( She has a point I would have turboed it too.

Default Update

So I have gotten rid of the FM kit and will be going with the MK Turbo setup. I will just be using the FM intercooler and piping still. So since I am still waiting on the MK kit to finish. I decided to go through my setup and change some things.

So I finally added a horn lol the stock one was busted and in the way of my ducting so I relocated the horn to the back of the car under the car below the battery.

Got rid of the 94 bulky throttle body that was hitting the reroute. This is a 96 throttle body.

Also added a cool looking overflow tank for the coolant and you can also see the catchcan.

So I used one of those clips left over from the air bag wiring to use as a quick disconect when removing the radiator and fans. arent I fancy

Then I went with a 300gt bov and used an extra mishmoto hose to pust the sound out the bottom. Im goona see if this quiets the bov with out loosing all the whoosh sound.

Also put in a new alternator

And started reducting

Then painted the roll plastic black. I know I know I could have bought red but the red is better to tell where the gaps are. So I use red and just paint it.

Also I got the chinacharger from Lars in advance so I went ahead and ported it per suggestion.

I should have probably sent you a manifold also. Then you could get IC piping done. You may also want to go a bit wider on the porting job just to be safe.

I have help coming over tomorrow. Hoping to get the NA redone by the end of the weekend. Once it is done, I build the jigs, and go get custom boxes made to fit it all. By the time I have the boxes I should be ready to ship.
