Default crutt's almost turbo'd red bastard.

97, FM Manifold, SR20 T25, FM downpipe, ISR circuit exhaust, FM clutch(to be installed), RX8 yellow injectors, AEM wideband, AEM FIC and/or MSPNP1. (I know I'm gonna get a lot of **** for this but I'll explain, I already had the FIC from another project, and picked up the MSPNP1 for a song after I already had the FIC hooked up)

I bought this 97 for 1700 with 187k miles and a free pile of deferred maintance included for free.

The radiator was from a different car I think, as it was completely brass, and complete with several leaks and full of rusty tap water and what im guessing was some kind of stop leak garbage. I flushed the crap out of the engine for at least half an hour.
I put in a cheap ebay aluminum radiator and replaced the cas o-ring and valve cover. The cas o-ring was so hard I had to break it off.

It cleaned up nicely!

But I cant leave my vehicles alone. My wife says I'm a serial fiddle-******. I think thats a bad thing.

So I added a hardtop, some used tokikos and some storm's with dz102s.

Then I got an ebay and facebook groups and made more bad decisions.

T25 and FM Manifold. The t25 didnt have much play, but I rebuilt this anyway. This may have been premature as I will elaborate later.

I picked up an FM1 Intercooler system from a local group member, not realizing that it was more setup for a 1.6 as the inlet manifold pipe was cocked and I tried mounting it up anyways. I don't like it and its not on the car currently. Its set up to have the bypass valve vent from in front of the compressor, and the bungs are set up for the kompact diverter, which I do not feel like paying $160 for.

The day I decided to actually work on the car was a bad decision. A giant hail storm was supposed to be coming through that evening, and my wife's car being the expensive one, I hurried and drove the car out with the wastegate wired open and parked it. The storm passed without any damage, but I had possibly blown a seal on the turbo as the drain line was kinked and oil had to go somewhere, out the exhaust from the turbo as it was.

"I can use AN fittings cause they're COOL!" I didnt realize how gigantic they were going to be.

I got the kink fixed and then tried to take the car for a drive around the block with the wastegate wired open and the stock intake hooked up. I threw a timing belt a block from the house. I guess I deserve that for not doing it before deciding a turbo was a necessity.

So here I am with a broken timing belt and and intercooler and piping setup that I hate. Hopefully I'll have good news with the next update.

I was at about 1500 rpm in 2nd gear when it let go under deccel. I'm hoping not to be the first person with a miata with a broken timing belt to have bent valves. At least according to my frantic google searches.

They are supposed to be non-interference, but there has been recent evidence to suggest that they may not be.
Hence the curiosity.

It appears to be an issue with the BP4W and VVT heads.
Just curious if someone had an issue on an earlier car.
OP, has the head ever been decked at all?

So I'm at the point where I need to order new intercooler piping and an intercooler. I think after searching and reading all the threads I could find the most common size seems to be 28x7x2.5 bar&plate with 2.5 inlet/outlet. My turbo's outlet is 2" so I'm thinking of just using a 2.5->2.0 coupler on the outlet for the compressor. I don't have power steering but I do have AC and Im not sure if that size piping will not be possible.

This intercooler: 2 5" Inlet Outlet Bar and Plate Universal Intercooler 28"x7"X2 5" | eBay

This piping kit or something similar.

2 5" 63mm Polished Aluminum Intercooler Pipe Kit Blackred Hose Clamp Universal | eBay

The only other option I think I have is either to get something fabricated locally (North Dallas) or buy FM's kit.

I should be able to add 1" bungs to that piping pretty easy right? (copper barbs?)
