ok i ssee the tool but cant figure out how it would work?

cant you just get a drill bit thats about 1mm small then the outter diameter of the rivets and just push/pound/hammer them in?

its basically the same as a rivet gun.......

heres what happens, the little riv nut has treads inside of it. you drill a hole to put slide the riv nut in, now you take the tool and put it up to the riv nut and tread the bolt thats in the tool into the riv nut. you hold the tool so that it doesnt move while turning the bold to suck up the riv nut till its tight in it hole and doesnt spin!

same thing that happens with a rivet, except for a rivet has a lil rod that sticks out that the tool grabs onto to pull it up into place!

this is done with a Pnuematic tool! the one Cspence is useing is manual! ;)



i used these things alot when i used to work for Yamaha, there neat as hell. and a PITA sometimes if you drill your hole too big or over do it when pinching them in place! :bigtu:

Exactly...We did have the pneumatic guns at work for a while but they have since been moved which is why I had to either pony up the doe to buy the tool or improvise...

GOOD note there WonTon...Also, invest in a good step drill to make your rivet holes....you want to make the holes JUST the right size. Also with the manual tools you can easily "Over-seat" the rivnut (On the pneumatic tools you can set a pre-determined pull rate on the mandrel as to not over do it). I found that 3 turns were all I needed to properly set the nut. Anyone could continue a few more turns, but trust me only bad things happen....practice on a few and you'll see ;)



The carbon top should be here next week if all goes well!!!!!

the pneumatic guns i had to used would alway break on me....damn piece of shit! :vash:

how did your improvision work? and did you base it off a tool already made or did you come up with it out of ya head?

rivnuts are smart, you can quickly take off your fender when wrenching to prevent your fat ass from cracking them...

The tool I made worked wonderfully...the only thing I did not expect on having to do was preloading the rivnut on the tool...meaning that I had to tighten it on the tool slightly prior to installation, if not it would spin a few times before collapsing

I just came up with it...I mean I knew the principles behind it so I knew how the tool needed to be made, not much to it! Here is another home brew tool for those of you with limited resources and money (This will work, the tool I made is just easier to work with, I personally think):

Well, so far I am still stuck on the Spinwerks Series 82 in the 16x9.5 0et flavor w/ 245/35/R16 Toyo T1R's

Im not dead set on that combo, but its the only I have found that:

A) Is of a reasonable price ($250 ea.)
B) Is of a reasonable weight (16 lbs)
C) Comes in the width and offset I am looking for (Custom made, so I can specify offset)
D) Looks decent while meeting all of the above criteria

Not planning on purchasing wheels until the springtime, so I still have time yet to make the "Right" choice....you guys need to help a brutha out!

Let me know when your ready....I'll see if I can sneak another one through the shop (Hard for me, I'm a pencil pusher now-a-days:giggle:)...I'd make a boat load of them, but my work keeps an eagle eye out for "Government" jobs :giggle:.

I think the spinwerks only come in the polished/chrome finish.....so thats how it'll be at first. I may paint/powdercoat/anodized them later on.

I'm not a big chrome person myself...I wouldn't mind scuffing them up so they have a brushed aluminum look and then clear over them...

Quick question about your projector setup.

Did you have to cut holes in the frame/body to mount those where they are? Also, do you have any adjustability/aiming with them there?

They are located in the stock turn signal openings so I only had to do a little trimming since my projectors were slightly larger than the opening. Had I gone with smaller projectors I probably could have gotton away without trimming. As far as adjustability, its not an easy feat like a stock unit, but a few washers and you can dial it in pretty good....its not like you adjust them all that much anyways, probably one time only ;)
