Where were you guys runnin....comin off the pike onto 15? I bet that guy was surprised :giggle: Who tuned your car....or did you?

FastColt 03-29-2010 09:56 PM

You got it, 15 north "The Dark Side" It was dead, no cars. I tuned my car, its not an awesome tune but its a good solid street tune.

You my friend need to lend me a hand to fine tune my shit...or at least give me the run down.

FastColt 03-29-2010 10:08 PM

Ha im not anywhere near good enough to do shit like that, i have only messed with my ve tables, i have yet to touch spark or ignition at all!

Cspence 03-29-2010 10:13 PM

You got some balls then :giggle:.....I'd be so nervous driving around in boost. When you go to dial things in if you need them, I bought a set of those electronic det-cans from Jeff....they work pretty damn good, it can just be a little challenging to listen for detonation over valvetrain noise, exhaust, bov, road noise, etc

240_to_miata 03-29-2010 10:19 PM

Cspence I can give you a good rundown on MS. I havent messed with spark a lot because I havent been able to tune on a dyno, but I can help you generally get better at using MS. I sell "PNP" kits for ford tfi setups (foxbodies and Merkur mainly) so I have gotten pretty decent at setting up megasquirts.

Definitly....I know you had said you were going to do a little run down for everyone once we all got together....I figured if I could pick up some stuff from each of you (you, Nick, and Chris) I'd be pretty well off. I'm a real hands on / mechanical person, but for some reason I learn MUCH better when taught than when trying to teach myself through literature....I got into some arguments with college professors over that :giggle:

\thread hijacking, lol

FastColt 03-30-2010 08:27 AM

I don't really know what I'm doing for tuning yet. I still need the 4 bar map for my mspnp. I just, I figure for now if my afr's are at 10.5-11.0 ar 20 psi, I'm doing ok. Unfortunately I came from a 500hp Dsm that I tuned on an afc and maf translator LOL. If there are any local guys that can help me out with a tune please speak up.

240 I may be moving down your way in a couple months.
If your heading to the Pike on Friday lemme know, maybe you can go through my programming quickly. Maybe even do a quick street tune.

240_to_miata 03-30-2010 08:30 AM

<<<< me

you should shoot for more of the 11.5- 11.8 range full boost depending on what you got for timing. bring your laptop to the pike next time and shoot me a PM.

FastColt 03-30-2010 08:34 AM

LOL you responded before I could edit.

240_to_miata 03-30-2010 08:35 AM

yeah i saw. Im bored sitting in vibrations class.

Where are you moving to? IDK if ill be down there this summer or not. depends if I get a job elsewhere in CT.

EDIT... good chance ill be at the pike friday if its as nice as its supposed to be. probably in my GFs WRX

miataspeed2005 03-30-2010 08:41 AM

I would go to the pike but I would get pull over with no front bumper :(

rweatherford 03-30-2010 08:54 AM

You guys crack me up. What is it 100 miles across CT the long way? It's 45 miles to the nearest super walmart here. ;) I drive 160 miles each way to go to an auto-x.

leatherface24 03-30-2010 09:35 AM

this is a great build thread. You got all your stuff quick, you posted in perfect intervals with meaningful updates, and you catered to my ADHD in doing so lol! Awesome stuff man!

I love the fact that on any given Fri or sat you can get 20 street races with of your choosing 5 min from my house LOL. Not that I do it, but I have a buddy with a Turbo ls2 swapped 350z that will race anytime anywhere, he's fairly entertaining to watch....

240, my wife and I are working on a house in wesrbrook right now, hopefully it all pans out.

240_to_miata 03-30-2010 10:11 AM

Nice good luck, I have a lot of family in westbrook.

I have a vid somewhere on my computer of the guy wtih the Turbo LS 350z doing some drifting around bobs parkinglot before he had the swap done.

FastColt 04-03-2010 09:41 AM

Props to Dave for dropping some serious MS knowledge on me last night! Thanks dude car runs wicked now!

240_to_miata 04-03-2010 09:49 AM

I think that tune still has a lot more to go. We need to get you running even better :) .

I love your car. wish mine was that clean.

Cspence 04-03-2010 11:00 AM

I see how it is....;)

240_to_miata 04-03-2010 11:03 AM

haha OK OK we will all have to get together and do a megasquirt session. Lets not do it at 10pm on the berlin turnpike tho. I dont think street tuning would be such a great idea there.

LOL we had enough attention when I set up his launch control. Shit sounds AMAZING on that exhaust.

So how that car run, it'a beast or what?

240_to_miata 04-03-2010 11:09 AM

I never got a ride in it :( . I was just showing him the ropes with a few settings and then I loaded in brain's old timing map.

He had the stock DIY PNP map on with his low compression pistons. SO MUCH room to play. There is still a lot that car can go before it is considered agressive timing tho. . . But I think a det can tune might be a good idea.

johnmatt 04-03-2010 11:14 AM

Good to see it's coming alond. In for videos of said launch control

How'd you not get a ride in it?! Thats like an unwritten car guy rule....you always gotta go for a rip :giggle:

Brains map is definitly a good starting point. I was amazed with the difference it made on my car. I've been making a few changes here and there with it and I think I got it dialed in pretty good for my car. I could probably be a bit more aggressive, but I'd like to do that work on a dyno or with a helper on the street (Pain in the ass driving, listening to the detcans, and making adjustments all at once) The det cans are key. They have been my number one tool lately since they make me feel more comfortable making adjustments. Otherwise I'd have no idea on if the changes I'm making are good or bad.

Wish I had the money right now for those cams. Your wife is a hotty

240_to_miata 04-28-2010 09:13 PM

very nice.

1) Pike this weekend? saturday? Ill have the miata out.
2) Ill call you back about MS sometime this week. basicly there are cheaper pnp options for your buddies car than me
3) keep the cams

FastColt 04-28-2010 09:26 PM

Dave sounds good, im racing the stupid 600hp sti on friday hopefully. Id like to get a few logs in before that, maybe tune for race gas as well. 30psi on pump is holding up great right now but im still hella week on timing and hella rich on fuel. Spins in 4th gear though! lol

240_to_miata 04-28-2010 09:29 PM

uhg make it saturday. i have time to tune your crap a little bit on saturday so you arent running crazy rich

FastColt 04-28-2010 09:46 PM

no biggie man, it can wait, ill run him and see how i do. If i need more powa, ill race him again at a later date. I wont be around saturday.

Just do a few "Long" logs and run VE analyzer in mega log viewer like we were the other night. After a few you should have your fuel dialed in pretty well, not perfect, but damn good. Your spark table is pretty good...theres power to be had, but I think once you get your fuel dialed in you'll be happy :giggle: What do your afr's look like in boost right now? If you need a hand for like an hour or so, I'm not doin shit tomorrow night.

Now, what I wanna know is when your putting that kid Mark in his place lol.

Is that Lyman Orchards?

johnmatt 04-28-2010 10:20 PM

30psi? Now I really wanna see some videos!!!

A few questions on your turbo--

I looked on the garrett website and i can't find your turbo. :( Would you mind posting a link to the page? I was curious about the compressor map. Also which size compressor are you using?

I ask since I'm curious how this turbo compares to the GT30 and GT35. thanks

P.S. Please whup on the STI-- there are quite a few 500+hp sti's and evos in my area :)

60-1 is an older turbo. You wont find much about it because it isn't "current" with the new GT series turbos.

Thank you!

I'm confused--- if fastcolt is running 30psi, that is pretty durn far off the efficiency map. I dunno his altitude but he needs 51psi absolute to hit 500hp crank which um works out to a pressure ratio of over 3.5.

If I am reading the map right, the car should be sized well enough for around 325 crank but not much more? Looks like the modern equivalent would be a 2871 or 6???

FastColt 04-29-2010 06:48 AM

I dont have 500hp right now. If im lucky im barely scrapping 400. This turbo made 381hp on pump gas @ 25psi on Jtothawhat's 1.6. Im at 30psi, im sure im close to if not over 400. Not too many things scare me in life.....this car does.....

Faeflora 04-29-2010 09:00 AM

I doubt my ability to comprehend compressor maps. Nyways TTU to you and your build! What is your RPM redline now? Also how is that sprung 4 puck working out for you? I have the ACT 6 puck and IMO it's smooth as a kitten :)

240_to_miata 04-29-2010 11:45 AM

I might have to meet up with you friday just to get a ride. . . ill shoot you a text.

FastColt 04-29-2010 12:38 PM

NP Dave, hit me up.

Gods honest truth, clutch is smooth as silk, I love it. And pedal pressure is not bad either.
