Bout that time kids.... been a busy busy winter, whole lotta work has gone on. My goal is to be as close to 500whp as possible. Please enjoy!

Crank reground, put all the crap together... A quick word of advice. Unless you started with a brand new/rebuilt oil pump housing, definitely check the pressure relief valve piston and bore on the oil pump. At least a couple of us here have had failures after installing new pump gears in a used housing, myself included. It sucks having to pull the engine out again after an epic and expensive engine build for something as simple and as cheap as a stuck oil pump pressure relief valve.
My pressure relief valve stuck open resulting in no oil pressure and cam bearing damage. I ended up buying a new oil pump and swapping out the stock gears with the same Boundary Engineering set you have. I wish now I had just done that in the first place. I have a thread about it somewhere around here. I have a set of new stock gears if anyone needs them. |
Yeah i already did that. I would never just slap gears in and go. The housing was in good shape, relief valve and spring were perfect, cleaned it lubed it and rebuilt it. Should be good to go. Good looking out though, i read about that happening before on here, that would suck, but im 100% sure mine is ok.

I'm doing the torsen for now cause I got a good deal on it. Once it goes, which will probably will in 2 seconds, ill get a quaf or something a little more beefy. Maybe an rx clutch type like Jay. He rocks that thing with 450 all day long. And yes......500 on a 1.6....lets see what happens....

Made some prgress this week! not much but some lol. Radiator and fans came in along with my corksport gears, gates racing tbelt, and headstuds.
I was a little worried that a godspeed radiator and fans were going to require some fabrication of brackets to get it to fit right....much to my surprise, 100% easy bolt in! Attachment 199920 Attachment 199921 Attachment 199922 Attachment 199923 Im still waiting for my supertech springs and retainers, my cams and for my head to be finished.....Hopefully ill have some confirmation on the cams this week since i shelled out a butt load of cash for something thats not even made yet lol. |

And that ATI damper aint cheap either mon ami. Il be watchin this i had my nitro but i sold it a month ago, didnt want to deal with it. But i will be pushing 30lbs this spring on my 1.6 :) 1.6 FTW!

Productive saturday afternoon!
Got my head back from the shop this past week so today i put it all together. I said a few swears while using the stupid valve spring comressor lol. I put my stock cams in because i prolly wont receive my Kelford cams till next month and im ready to start the car up this week. Also had my buddy fab up this little block off plate for my intake manifold. Gonna grab a head gasket this week and start buttoning everything up! I didnt let either of them assemble anything, i dont trust anyone but myself. lol. I did not get in on the BEGI group buy, i still want to see dyno numbers with that thing. that is a factory coolant bypass area to heat the intake manifold for winter temps in cold climates... easier startup, and emissions.
hes just removing it |

Made some great progress with the couple free hours i had tonight, head studs in! head gasket! Head on! t-belt on! acc pullys and belt on!

Is there a reason with all this work you don't seem to be doing a coolant reroute? Or did I miss something.

Turbo isnt water cooled. Oil drain line, i/c pipe and coolant hose all fit perfect. I had to change the lower rad hose and get a little crafty, but otherwise, no need for a reroute.

So after carefully hand building my entire engine for the past 3 months, i went to start it and it wouldnt turn over. lol This was due partially to my working 11 hrs then coming home and putting in another 3 hrs until 9pm. I was so tired i infact that i bolted the cas 180 degrees in the wrong direction. I fixed this issue after looking at the engine for 2 min today lol. What a difference not being dead tired makes lol. Turned the stupid cas 180 degrees to its normal position and the car fired up like a never even took the motor out! Good oil pressure, no leaks, no bad smells. Im very please, turbo blanket, dp wrap and beefy wires are on the way.....

That familia could run 11's with his eyes closed, then hit a auto x course and tear the shit outta that. My car is still nothing to write home about, still breaking her in and still waiting for my cams. Prolly only around 300hp as it sits.

OK guys, I fucked up big time. Saturday night I started the torsen swap at about 6pm (alone with the car on Jack stands). Every nut and bolt broke my balls the whole time. Finally finished up around 830 or so. After picking up some royal purple and filling up the diff I had to take it for a quick spin (without a camera of course). I pull outta my street, and get onto the highway near by. Cars running great at 15psi, new Diff feels great. I'm cruising along nice and slow when what pulls up next to me? A 2007 Carrera S with a GT3 body package, I just about shit myself. Im thinking "Well, lets really see if you know how to build a car Chris....." We slow down to about 50, I down shift into 3rd, he takes the hit. I slam the pedal down, door to freaking door 3rd and 4th gears. Finally he starts pulling me in 5th at around 100mph or so. By 125mph he put 2 car lengths on me. I was wicked pumped about how my little car held up against an expensive ass super car like that. Any how, moral of the story, turn boost up before you test drive and always record test drives.......boo for my fail!
