40 minutes in line at the DMV to get a "wait for this number to be called" ticket. I really should've made an appointment, but by some random luck I ended up with the afternoon off so I figured I'd try to get it started today.

I've got my Application for title, Statement of construction, Manufactures statement of origin, a load of receipts, and most importantly my checkbook. Here's hoping it goes smoothly!

Good luck and godspeed! :x:

Paid my fees, waiting on SB100 number now :)

Only a one day operating permit until I get my brake and light. And then a nice red sticker hopefully.

I feel like your employer gave you time off to vote today, and instead you went to the DMV

SteadFast 11-04-2014 07:49 PM

Where did you go?

Redwood city DMV. It was a big cluster fuck. After I posted that I was waiting for the number and done, they came back and told me that I wouldn't be getting a spcns (sb100) number because they had entered stuff wrong. Another hour later after they reentered it all and called Sacramento again, I got a spcns number finally! If they are issued in order, there are almost 200 left this year.

Now the fun will be finding a place to get a brake and light inspection. I also have the exomotive dominator headlights and have come to the same conclusion as you. They look nice and are built well, but the light output is pretty shitty. I also need to clock the lenses as they are mounted 90* from how it seems they were intended too. And one of my tail lights seems to be not working. And my right blinker is too fast. Hopefully those two issues are related and an easy fix.

I bet you a burrito from that crazy place on El Camino its a ground issue.

Sorry to hear you got screwed but it sounds like they eventually worked it out in the end. Kudos good sir, progress dispite their best effort to the contrary. :bigtu:

Did they give you a form for the brake and light? They never mentioned anything about brake/light to me. I left with a paid tax receipt, a 90 day driving permit (which I was able to extend another 90 days), and that is it. I then got my number in the mail about a week later.

The top sheet of the "registration" they gave me specifies, brake and light, CHP, and BAR.

The lady wouldn't give me a 90 day permit without first getting the brake and light :(

I feel like if I went back with a date for an appt. at the BAR/CHP and talked to a different person that I would get a 90 day permit. I'm hoping to find a shop that will think the car is cool and not be too stringent on the brake and light stuff.

EO2K 11-05-2014 02:08 PM

Or, you know, we can just fix it so it works properly ;)

SteadFast 11-05-2014 06:48 PM

Just sent you an email with an attachment. It is the document that states all the stuff for lighting.

Hot damn, thanks!

I'm driving tomorrow to the CHP without bodywork or fenders... Wish me luck.

I'm curious to see what they about the fenders. IIRC, there's a law in CA about how cars less than a certain weight don't have to have fenders, but they have to be older than a certain year. It's basically to accommodate the classic hot rods. SPCNS vehicles are treated as MY 1960 for some purposes -- I dunno if it's true for this one or not.

And that was easy. In less than 30 minutes I got my vin number assigned. The CHP officer was really worried about people not being able to see the vin plate so he gave me two. One to put on the firewall and one to put on the rear part of the trans tunnel.

Sweet! And your car makes mine look downright civilized! What all did they ask for/check?

I'm not generally a fan of the styling on an Exocet, but yours looks really good in that photo.
