Frustrating yes, but sounds like progress none the less. What exactly does the 01 have in that area that the 00 did not? Other than AC and PS I can't think of anything under the hood in that area that would be vastly different.

Hurry up and get that thing running so I can buy your WRX ;)

18psi 02-04-2014 12:03 PM

Maybe the 00 did have all the lines and brackets there, and I just don't remember cause I did the awesome "behind the headlight" routing and didn't have to deal with that area at all.

The ps lines are all in the way. The ac compressor lines are also in the way. It all fits, obviously, but its all clustered together and touching, which I don't like mainly because I'm OCD like that.

I took thursday off to hopefully finish it up for real.

There really isn't much left, but I work really slowly cause I need everything to be flawless or I won't be able to sleep at night :giggle:

curly 02-04-2014 12:04 PM

Just try to keep in mind what moves with the engine, and what doesn't. I wouldn't be concerned about the AC and compressor hose rubbing, but the lower rad hose and AC compressor will rub. Any way to shorten the part that goes onto the rad to draw it away from the engine?

18psi 02-04-2014 12:09 PM

well the lower rad hose basically "rests" on the ac pump. I've trimmed it and tried like eleventy billion different ways to get it all perfect, but tha'ts how it is. The part that touches moves with the engine, as does the compressor, so there will be no "rubbing". Just touching. lol

The rubbing I'm concerned about is the silicone hotside piping touching the control arm mount: the engine/turbo moves, the lca mount doesn't. Not sure if that's ok, but that is literally the only way to have it, and every new style FM kit on the planet uses this routing/piping so I guess it should be okay...I dunno

I'll snap some pics. I'm probably just overthinking this

turbofan 02-04-2014 01:20 PM

Could the BEGI parts be repositioning the turbo enough to cause different fitment?

Sounds about right ;)

Have you looked at the FMII install instructions? IIRC they actually recommend cutting up old radiator hose and using zip ties to create "wear patches" for the hoses for things that contact. I could be wrong though, I read a lot.

I've got both sections of the silicone FM piping as well. The IC -> TB pipe is money but I'm not completely sold on the compressor -> IC pipe. The more I look at it and the more I read the more I want to do the behind the headlight routing like I did with the Rotrex. Of course, I also want to do an airbox for the filter too keep the noise down, something like the FM "hush kit" and I'm not sure that's going to be compatible.

I did the same for my coldside pipe. My lower rad hose hasn't worn through, but I may do the same for it.

Overall nothing terrible, so I guess I'll just deal with it.

can't wait to clean it all up, wash inside and out, and get this bad boy started

turbofan 02-04-2014 09:27 PM

Wow that's quite a fustercluck in there.

That would make me nervous as well, I don't blame you.

EO2K 02-04-2014 09:30 PM

Makes me even gladder I removed my AC. I don't like that charge pipe on the control arm and swaybar, that shit just moves too much. The rest I could deal with.

When is D Day?

18psi 02-04-2014 09:38 PM

the cool thing is that the part its touching isn't the part that moves up/down with the lca. its the hanger and is stationary. But yeah, I still don't like it. I'll figure something out if it becomes a problem. Its relatively easy to get to so that's a good thing.

I'm hoping to have it at least ready to fire up this week/weekend.

If I do, and it runs/drives fine, the wrx will be going for sale in the next few weeks.

turbofan 02-04-2014 09:50 PM

Well that was quick. Get it running tomorrow so I can see it complete on Thursday

curly 02-05-2014 12:23 AM

Gah, move that clamp on the feed line to the end of the cover or I'm going to explode.

18psi 02-05-2014 01:08 AM

 I will be fitting a FM heat shield soon (or a diy knockoff) so yeah it will likely be moved anyway

Looking awesome Vlad, love the "sleeve" for the oil feed. Next time I pull my motor (soon enough lol) I'm going to do this upon reassembly. Good idear.

Stoked to see this thing running..

Neat! Vibrant 12800? I need to see if there is room to fit my IAT bung in that location. It'll look good painted black ;)

18psi 02-07-2014 05:14 PM

Ok, so good news and bad:

I go to start the car just now, it fires up like a champ. I think the stupid gas station sold me regular gas not e85 so I adjust req fuel to pump gas setting and it runs great.

30 seconds later it shuts down abruptly. does not restart no matter what. I give it about 10 minutes, it restarts perfectly and runs for about 30 seconds, then same crap again: shuts down wont restart no matter what. Crank and crank til the battery dies. I put charger on it. Waiting for it to get some juice.

Also its showing "VVT1 error" on the bottom.
I'm pretty sure I set timing right, replaced all the vvt solenoid seals and gaskets, everything is top notch.

:vash:
Its driving me bananas

What the crap is "VVT1 error"? Someone know? is it just the solenoid not operating, or cam out of place, or what?

richyvrlimited 02-07-2014 06:25 PM

I had the VVT1 error when I set my base timing way too high. Are you sure the gap is fine on the crank sensor?
