Had a great time at the Pinks All Out event this weekend. Things didn't go as planned unfortunately, but at least I got to make a run. Here's how it went. Friday was registration and test & tune. We arrived a little later in the evening and was the last car to show up. Tech inspection held us up because they were not happy at all with the Boss Frog Frog roll bar. A full NHRA cage will be going in this winter. But since we were the last car to show he passed us anyways. We didn't get to make any test runs that night.
Saturday was the main event and everything looked good with the car. Got interviewed several times about the whole "why aren't there more imports here?" thing and also the "why do the imports always break?". The car also got a bunch of camera time. The clips will probably help decorate the editing room floor. Needless to say, they jinxed me with the imports breaking questing. Just prior to the cameras moving on we noticed water coming from under the car as we were sitting in the staging lanes. Once they were out of view we got a better look and a line had burst.
Back to the pits for a quick fix. A couple of domestic guys even were there offering us help. That really made my whole weekend and will be one of the more memorable parts of this event. We were able to loop a line and filled it with water and we went back to the staging area. When I got there they turned me away. So much for their promise if you pull yourself they will let you back in to get your runs.
After quite a bit of back and forth they agreed to just let me do a single arm drop pass with the cars that were in my run group. Got lined up with a pretty quick diesel truck. Things didn't go so well from here on out. Thought I did a decent burnout and proceeded to move up to the line. Launched at 5000 rpms and the car didn't bog, the rpms held and immediately climbed. After that first gear something just didn't feel right. Everything felt fine, just really slow, not clawing at the track and taking off like it normally does. At the top end I knew I had problems when I crossed the line in 5th gear at a mph slower than I should have been.
Got my time slip and drove back to the pits and was less than happy with myself, this isn't the run I was expecting. Only managed a 12.2 at 120. Andre from Pina Motorsports was out there at the track with me for the whole weekend as my crew chief and got a video.
The video showed what we had suspected. During my burnout when I was holding the car at about 6500 the tires were barely moving. After I rolled it out after the water box they immediately grabbed on the dry pavement while the rpms stayed up. The clutch was going and the burnout definitely didn't help. My 60 ft time was a 2.1 and the clutch just didn't hold higher up in the rpms.
This is a FM level 2 pressure plate and an ACT organic disc (equivalent to their actual Level 2 clutch package). Held great so far and I was well past the rated capacity of what it should hold so I should have seen this coming. Time for something bigger and stronger. Besides a twin disc from 949 Racing, any suggestions?
That's my recap of yesterday, overall I had a great time, just disappointed in the car. Was happy to see the domestic guys that helped out were both selected to be part of the round of 32 and one of them went on to the round of 16. Don't know how he did from there, but I hope he won it all. Also heard lots of negative comments about actually having an import car there. Mostly from drunk people walking around or guys with slow domestics in the slower run groups.
Good times and I can't wait to to do it again.

The car is also at the limit of the injectors, much in need of an intake manifold and I'm also having spark blowout up top. The spark blowout problems should be fixed by the end of next week hopefully and the work on the intake manifold has already started.
Here's the new numbers from the dyno and I should have some new numbers from the drag strip by the end of the weekend.

You need our new Fuel System.. -6 Feed Lines, External Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator, combined with a Fuel Rail and a Walbro HP pump.
Will help you probably get another 60-100hp from those injectors. The 60psi base pressure on the NB is part of your problem. I used to run 55-60 base on my 500hp setup!

Yeah, I don't think I will ever be done with the car. I knew at some point the clutch was going to give, just didn't know when. Now I'm just trying to find out what will be best to replace it with. Do I go with just a new disc or do I switch out the pressure plate as well?

I know that at lower power levels the pressure plate is where the money is at.
Higher clamping force with a stock disc can handle most setups.
Where you're at I'm sure you need both, much higher clamper force, and high friction material as well.
Considering you have enough power to do serious damage to other drivetrain components I'd call everyone (Emilio, FM and the like) and ask about your specific setup. You will probably want something that can handle the power, but doesn't just transfer the shock of hookup further down the line.
From what I read of the 949 twin disc I thought it specifically addressed this, and supposedly wear shouldn't be a concern. Dual disc engagement capable of handling 600whp (why not just a torque rating?) sounds like the ticket to me.

I have a regular 6 speed and when I pull it out the entire thing is being cryo treated. I've been looking at the 949 disc, but I would really like to see someone with a powerful car run one first. I hate claims by a manufacturer that haven't been real world tested. Might just nurse this one along for a bit by running wastegate for a bit.

What clutch is Bundy using in his car? I'd say whatever he is using is torture proven...

That's the place I will be taking it too. As for what Bob's running, I'm not sure. He's around the same power level right now even though I sure do hope he puts his car on a dyno back here just for comparisons sake. He uses his car very different than I do. If I wasn't drag racing I wouldn't even know something was wrong.
My goals have also changed a bit also. There was a time when I thought 350-400 would be enough. I'm now looking at 500+ or bust. Good news though, my wife is telling me to get the 949 racing twin disc and stop being a cheap *** *****.

get the 949 twin ceramics and stop being a *****.
or build your own like I did. and then kick yourself when you realize it would have been 10x easier and the same cost to have a 949 unit. (if only it were available when I did mine)

Just a quick update. Going to pass on the twin disc clutch and go with something different. Maybe later, but for how I use my car it just wouldn't work. The new intake manifold should be completed in less than two weeks as well. Anyways, since everyone like pictures, here' one from Pinks.
