OH MY GOD!! :eek5: its a monster!!! I'm so hard:giggle:

I see no cosmetic problems, looks like art to me. Even more so once its in the car.

hmm anyone notice that that turbo-side view with the drain line hanging down looks like a man bending over from behind?

It's alive. Going to do some street tuning in the morning and then off to dyno day.

Looking good Jason! Thanks for posting your dyno with the GT30R in my thread. Can't wait until you get things sorted and get that turbocharger to BREATHE!
|
Very Nice Build!

As a few other threads stated, I had some issues a week or so ago at a dyno day. I was running a base tune and the car just performed so poorly that I thought there had to be a mechanical issue.
Last night I got it back on the dyno at 5pm to see if the little fixes made any difference. The first couple of pulls were a repeat of the week prior. We pulled everything off and started rechecking all of our work. Started changing out components from another VVT head with hopes that it was all VVT related. After changing out everything, all we found is that the VVT actuators were actually different between the two heads. At about 1am it was decided that we had done all that we could and started it back up and made a few more pulls. With nothing else to lose, we started adding timing and hoped for the best. After several tweaks it started to come around and ran decent and no longer made more power with the VVT solenoid disconnected. After 48 pulls last night we pulled it off the dyno this morning at 7am with a rough tune that I'm very happy with. I am not only very happy with the outcome so far, but I learned a ton about the Hydra software and tuning in general. Andre at Pina Motorsports worked his magic and got the car running so much better all the while teaching me the fundamentals of how to tune a car. I'm so tired right now, but it was so worth it. Here's dyno plot of where we left it. It's going back in May for more and we'll see how much more we can get out of it. This run was made at 17.5# and the car is running on 92 octane gas. |
VERY NICE Jason! Glad to see that turbo starting to breathe... Do you happen to have the pressure plot as compared to RPM again? If not, no biggie...
|
nice to see it come together with an insanity dyno. It feels good to get your shit on the road, right?
do you have 4th gear traction? |
As we finished up the dyno runs this morning it started raining so I haven't been able to see what it can do. Hopefully I will do a little driving tomorrow.
Thanks for giving me a peek at those timing maps. Definitely helped me get an idea of what I was after. What I learned last week doing research, then having my tuner sitting next to me answering all my stupid questions last night and actually demonstrating to me how they effect the car as we made the changes was incredible. |

I'm happy the starter maps helped. Any insight on why the torque drops like a rock? Mine does the same. I wonder if it has something to do with our turbine or housing. |

Jason... Have you contacted Magnus about producing one those for a Miata application? Would be cool if we could get enough interest and a price quote to potentially get the ball rolling with them.

Torque dropping like a rock? Haha I'd say thats holding up pretty damn well for an engine this size! Anyways, I agree with the intake manifold idea. Outside of cams and turbo, it probably has the biggest influence on the shape of the curves. If you're willing to give up some low end, shorter runners would bump the top end up a bit. That's where variable length intakes come in to play, like the 99+ head or whatever.

The question is if we would get enough interest in the manifolds. Especially since we would need a 90-93, 94-97 and 99-05 version as they all bolt up differently. |
Very true... Marc, you wanna try putting something together? As I'm sure you have the resources to make it happen. Would help out Jason and the Miata community as a whole. As long as it is proven to flow better and make more power up top I'm down for a '99 unit for sure!
