wow hater.

It's a Flipside Customs manifold that has a Q45 throttle body flange on it. The plenum is bigger than the other versions because that tb is huge. If anyone is interested in a manifold from him he has a more conventional version that will use the Mustang tb as well. It's very similar in design, but will actually have a more finished look and seems like it will be very nice.

What do you guys think? Throttle body too big/small, plenum to big/small, runners too short/long, etc...

Braineack 09-29-2009 12:25 PM

dyno it and find out!

ripracer 09-29-2009 01:59 PM

Except that one looks like poo compared to his, though the larger plenum might perform better. Is that a q45 tb?

awwww. it's not as pretty :jerkit:

No, it's a Nissan TB 60mm IIRC. (on split's)

mazda/nissan 09-29-2009 02:16 PM

ha, I thought that looked an awful lot like Splitimes! Is there any sort of velocity stack on the runners?

JayL 09-29-2009 02:18 PM

Yes that's a Q45 throttle body.

ripracer 09-29-2009 02:30 PM

Yeah your gonna have to dyno it to see, but where are you looking for power and what kind of power will decide on plenum size and runners. Stick with the TB though, its definitely the right size.

Funny thing is that I actually do care how it looks. I've had so many fast cars that looked like shit that this time around I wanted it to be different. When I open the hood, I want to be proud of what I see. When I walk away from the car, I always want to be inclined to turn around and admire it.

The TB is what they call a 90mm, but it's actually tapered inside and only about 85mm or so. Popular on many other cars, just not the Miata, yet.

Can't remember what Splitimes looks like, but the picture below shows what the runners look like on the inside.

Looking for more power up top, so if I lose a bit down low it won't concern me. I can't wait to start using the TB and I do agree that it's the right size.

Here's a video from the Corksport dyno day.

Here's a video of a run that same night at PIR.

Really interested to see what that IM does to your power. 400whp through a stock IM is damn impressive.

Splitime 10-01-2009 04:42 PM

Sorry I didn't polish that up for you guys :p. Mine has something a bit closer to velocity stacks inside it. Just didn't do a runner/headflange setup. Didn't have the ease of the injector in head setup. Wish I had that for simplicity though.

Jay: Not starting stuff, just found it fun to see a version very similar to mine. Has worked fine for me. Now go make some crazy power :)

Here's a picture of a test fit that I did earlier. Only thing that I ran into was the alternator bracket will get in the way so I will be having a new bracket fabricated to give me a little more space.

On a side note, anyone watch Pinks All Out at Pacific Raceways last night?

wayne_curr 10-02-2009 07:35 PM

Nice!

Pinks aired already?!

mazda/nissan 10-02-2009 08:08 PM

So do all '99 and later heads have the injector in head setup, or just 2001 and later NB's?

I guess I can go look.

I may have to get one of these made if it delivers mega-torque.

so Jay, how do you know when you have enough power?

I'll know when I've gone into plaid.

Put the factory intake manifold back on so I could go racing this weekend. Ended up getting a new personal best yesterday. Going back today to see if I can run faster or break the car trying.

viperormiata 10-11-2009 02:59 PM

Good lord that is fast.

You'll be gone to plaid in no time.

curly 10-11-2009 03:22 PM

You're into the safety requirements for 11.49 second car, have you met all of them?
