I am looking into modifying one of the Magnus manifolds to work on my Miata. If we could get Magnus to create one for the Miata that would be great for the community. There's also a couple of other vendors on this forum working on manifolds. Neither appears to be close to bringing one to market and I don't think either vendor has people like me as their target market. Time to make this happen for myself.

Went to the track this morning. Was able to make 3 passes total and learned quite a bit. Slip is posted below and yes I know that my 60ft sucks, I wanted to protect the torsen so I can sell it.
Here's what I learned. 1. 6 speed transmission filled with Redline shockproof isn't a good combination for quick shifting. 2. 6 speed transmission with 4.3 gears is a recipe to cross the line in 6th gear. Car is going to get the 3.6 gears, clutch type lsd, new intercooler piping and a different type of transmission fluid installed next week. |
Not too bad for babying it out of the hole and with the stump-puller 6-speed + 4.30 setup. I bet you change gears like it's going out of style down the 1/4 mile. What kind of times did you post prior to the GT3076R?

motul 300 75w90 is supposed to be the shiz in 6-speeds. That shockproof is a bitch in 5-speeds, i bet it really sucks in a 6er.

I'm also going to switch engine and rear end fluids in the next couple of weeks. Pretty sure what I want to run in the engine, but anyone have any recommendations for a RX7 clutch type lsd? |
I've heard that syncromesh GM oil was nice for B series Transmissions, you could try it, its a dealer only tho, just go in and ask for Vette's Tranny oil Synchromesh. here its 5.54$ +tax

I'm going to try the Motorcraft stuff that people on .net seem to like at the moment. The only track time this car will see for now is the drag strip. With that logic, is there a fluid that will let it shift quickly when it's somewhat cold. It heats up plenty during the pass, but between runs is sits for an hour or two.
For the rear, is there anything special required for the clutch type lsd? I've heard that some use a friction modifier and others say to stay away and stick with a straight GL5. I haven't heard of the Schaeffer brand before, but if I can find it I'm willing to try it. |

I went with what everyone with every other car on the net says...Redline. MT-90 in the trans, 75w90 in the diff, though I have the shitacular 1.6 open diff.
I do like the MT-90, though cold shifting is annoying. |

Thought I would give an update. The car is back down at Pina Motorsports to have a few things done. The 3.63 gears will be installed, new intercooler piping made, the downpipe is getting tweaked, a resonator added to the midpipe and a line lock installed. Should have the car back in time to hit the test and tune next Wednesday.
Also made a few other purchases over the weekend. Have a set of 15x8 6ULs on order and also a new set of rear tires. On the tracks I run, the 15x8 rims will be much faster than the 15x9 rims. When they arrive my old set will go up for sale. Tires arrived today and since everyone likes pictures, here's a tire picture. |
hey try just regular 75w 90 non syn... ive used motul, red line and mobile one and ive been threw 3 trans... and notice that when ever i throw in synthetic in the gear box it gets notchy. threw in the reg Valvoline 75w 90 been boosting on it hard, fast shifting the whole deal.

Gear oil is not going to keep teeth from stripping as long as viscosity stays within a reasonable range. Synchros benefit the most from appropriate formulation. |
the gears did not fail, the syncros did. i use every form of racing gear box fluid and they all made the gear box notchy and hard to change gears quickly. even used stuff you can even find in the states (shell helix) ferrari certified gear fluid. also agip, all the best fluids in the market. In my experience with these gearboxes the syncros dont like synthetic formulas
