Prior to storing the kart for the winter I snapped a couple 'up close' detail photos - here's a handful:

Pulled the Kart out of storage, got it back in the garage - looking a little dirty and in NEED of a standalone!



So, first step - pull of the old Flyin Miata intake manifold w/ (4) additional injectors.

Then start untangling the Link Piggyback from the OEM harness - SHEESH, poor thing needs a wash and polish!




Next up - injectors. Picked up a set of Seimens DEKA EV1 62lb / 650cc injectors FI114961, high resistance, saturated injectors - which meant needing to replace the injector clips

 

Next on the list - sensors

-Removed MAF - used wiring for the EBC.

-EBC signal line - installed a threaded nipple on the intake-side end of the intercooler, just being the IAT sensor.

-Snipped the old IAT sensor, used the GM-style unit from DIYAutotune - also installed this on the intake-side end of the intercooler. Ideally, this would be closer to the throttle plate, but my boost pipe routing is very short and curved - no great place to thread in a sensor. Besides, having the sensor mounted in front of the rad (and away from the engine) will help reduce heat-soak.

 

Got the MS installation completed, time to do some hardware updates -

Badly needed engine mounts, kept missing shifts (still getting used to the 6spd) - went with comp mounts:


Broke the little pin inside the VVT gear - pulled the part of an old head, pretty easy repair:




Head back on - ARP studs torqued down with new hardware


Still have to finish tuning but most of the hardware should be good to go.

 

Day one of tuning - had some MAJOR help from a semi-local member, I can't thank him enough (he requested to be anonymous) - ran across some issues I had to repair, but overall everything went super well - zero overheating, sorted closed loop idle, fixed a a re-route and valve cover leak - easy fixes.

Tuning and testing pretty much finished up, at least starting, idle, wide-open with boost and without boost. Still have some 'around town' cruising adjustments to make.

 

Car is out - made it a day before frost is out on the windshields. Had to wear gloves, a jacket and beanie while driving it to work but made it no problem! Took a couple co-workers for a drive and made it home, no issues - it took a LONG time to get here but the thing pulls SO strong - worth it.



Oh yeah.

Had to get that pumpkin spice - barista complimented my 'mo-bile' ... I took it in stride

Took the Kart out for some photos / pulls - turned out great, couldn't be happier.

 

 

 

So, after a lot of looking around, wound up lining up the sale of the kart and purchase of its replacement on the same weekend on Las Vegas, NV.

Got the kart all cleaned up and... it snowed the morning I left...





Oh well. Utah was pretty though -

 

Kart sold on 11/21, bought its replacement on 11/22 - sale of the kart covered half the purchase price

So with that done, this thread comes to an end. Posting work on the new car on Instagram @bawward - what a project its been.
