ManicGTI's third attempt...

Yup, the EGR port (I've corrected my Typo now ) I felt like a grade A numpty when I realised. I actually got it running over a week ago but it was running so rough that I didn't want to drive it until I had worked out what it was.
I've made a basic AFR target table based on various threads etc, so my intention is to do some basic work on the idle and VEAL so I can drive it around safely for a week or so. Then I'll head to a rolling road for a proper mapping session. I don't have any knock detection so I'ml leave the Diyautotune basemap Ignition table as it is for the time being.

Cheers, I won't.
When I say head to the rolling road, I mean I'll be taking it to a 'tuner' who knows what they are on about, there's a couple of MS / MX5 tuners around the UK now. I'm happy doing basic tuning but not really comfortable with the knock detection element at the moment so I'll get them to do all that.

So now it's mapped it's time for a quick update...
I gave the old engine away to Hal_the_Hacker whose rebuilding it...on strip down he found this:
So that would be the 'funny' noise I was having then! That happened when trying to start it after messing around with injectors and MS...in NA form!
Back to the current car/engine, I went down to Skuzzle for the day last week and he did his thing mapping it on the Dyno. It felt fast before on my amateur VEALed basemap, but afterwards...much, much better!
Happily no real problems other than messing around with exhaust alignment, it all seemed to go as planned so very happy!
PAS pump seemed to give up the ghost last week so I haven't driven it in anger much since, but I'll go do that this evening

Oh and the results
208 RWHP @ ~13psi, so that's approx ~229-250 HP at the Fly depending what I take as transmission losses (10-20%?). From the Dyno trace it looks like the peak torque is ~195 Ftlb @ RW.
Summary Spec: '96 1.8, 650cc EV14 Injectors, DIYPNP with Seq Inj and EBC, FMIC, Garrett TB2815 (T28 200SX Journal Bearing Turbo)
Whoop whoop, very happy with that.

So a month or so and a few thousand miles of use post FI and I hit my first build related issue!
Yup...I used an Aluminium T-Piece for my oil feed . Oversight on my part, really annoyed at myself!
After some patient drilling and an Easyout I got the stub out of the block:
Rather than switch to a Steel T-Piece I've decided to add a sandwich plate to take the Turbo oil feed. It means I can add senders for separate VDO oil temp/pressure gauges and negates the issue of trying to align up the outlet port of a T-Piece with the oil feed line. Oil Pressure sender back in it's rightful place on the block and hopefully all is good!
Oh, and chucked an OEM Style front lip on:
Assuming it all works fine now, next up is:
- Wheels. Either new or refurbish these Rota RBs, and get some decent width tyres.
- Cooling upgrade. Alloy rad and reroute.
- Heat management. Ie shields around intake and turbo.

Time for update I think!
So back in July it looked a bit like this, nothing exciting:
Following this the only change was I shifted the EBC Solenoid to the front of the Cambelt cover, mounted on a couple of rubber standoffs (spare well-nuts):
I then got distracted with 'real life'. Cheeky bit of exploring in Morocco:
Oh, and bought another project:
So have been doing a bit of this:
Back to the car...I did have an issue with boost overshoot on the Open Loop EBC, so have now shifted to Closed Loop. I've lowered my boost target to ~10psi as I haven't spent much time playing with it. Runs fine for daily driving but can likely be improved with some effort.
Now it's a bit grubby, but well used:
I've also had some issues with the yearly MOT emissions test. I refitted the cat and passed everything with flying colours except the CO which was way over. My tester is friendly so wasn't an issue this year, but I want to get this sorted for the future.
