Mine was $600 using OEM parts and three angle valve job. I did bring it disassembled, but I don't think that was much of a factor in price.

I provided the parts*
This shop also apparently is the sole source machining service for all Datsun Spirit motors. I dropped some miata parts off for cleaning, and he talked my ear off about all Datsun things (even though he's an old school muscle car guy). Brought me around back, he has 6 L series motors at any time. He built my block which is still solid after this many years. The head I cop up to janky Supertech products |
Yeah the 1700 i was quoted was including parts as well. Ill give them a call and see what it would take to ship my head to them. There has to be a good local shop that isnt horrendously over priced.

Two questions today
1. What are you guys typically paying for a machine shop to clean, deck head? and clean, deck, install and adjust oversize valves? 2. Can anyone recommend a good shop in Washington preferably within an hour or two of Seattle? |
So been a while since the last update. Pruned the wiring harness almost all the way to where i wanted it then the TSE built head popped up on here so i sold all my 1.6 turbo stuff to fund that. So now i have a fully built VVT head waiting to go onto the motor. Also picked up a BEGI manifold from Bret Wold (alienmiatata1) to handle things on the cold side. Over the last 2 months I have been waiting for a precision 350hp intercooler that finally showed up from backorder and gets us pretty close to getting this new motor in.
Because 1.6 power sucks i decided to rip the harness out and build a bare bones new harness for the good motor. The new harness will feature an AIM MXS Strada or MXP Strada if i can make it fit. Then everything else will be ran through a Cartek wireless controller and my little bussmann fuse box. I have also been stripping all the un-necessary weight out of the car because race car. Also pictures are in no specific order. All the black matting in the car is getting ripped out. Then for some handling stuff. Over the summer the car has received new front centric hubs paced with redline CV2, SADfab poly bronze retrofit, SADfab rear hubs, extended lower ball joints, NB front subframe swap with a depowered rack, NB2 uppercontrol arms, painted the NA6 lower control arms, and new tie rods that are not R package. Also sold my old tein flex coilovers and bought Ryan Passey's Feal 442 coilovers from Lars (MKturbo/shuiend) which will be a much needed improvement over the old teins. Up next on the list is actually assembling and finishing the motor and wiring harness and hopefully picking up a 9LR wang over winter. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...2544e27438.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...70a8a4e607.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...8875ab8383.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...acc7cdaf22.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...c3115c7e7c.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...5bd888fa3d.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...05c44d8973.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...e3c0820c3a.jpg |

Small update. Things are happening. Big things. That is all.

Sweet turbo build bro

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Doesnt everyone remove the motor, trans, and subframe when doing a 1.8 swap

Sorta a big update so here we go.
Fist I started building a new harness for the car. Pruned the rear harness, added a extra circuit for a diff temp sensor and also did a fuel pump rewire to handle the DW300. Below is the work in progress shot and the finished rear harness. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...bf7cddfd80.jpg Finished rear harness https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...97055b81ee.jpg This is the giant pile of wire I removed from the car. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...d14f3db820.jpg Also picked up Ryan Passey's Feal 442 coilovers to replace the old tein flex coilovers that were in the car. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...2e9edce105.jpg Then POOF the old 1.6 gets pulled out. This is kinda a step backwards because at this point I already did a NB subframe swap. This will make sense later in the post. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...05cc79a880.jpg Uber motor looks awesome and is almost all together and ready to make big power. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...da5eb78c44.jpg Also got some Left Lane Designs fender vents from Matt (Padlock) https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...5794cf620c.jpg Tubular subframe installed with all the suspension stuff re-installed and a depowered NB rack. Also a hint to the big things to come with that weird oil pan. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...4e239019b7.jpg And here is the big news. Ended up selling the UBER BP:cry: And ended up getting a K24A2 https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...814a5514de.jpg Tragedy strikes and there is coolant in the oil pan. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...982fc14611.jpg No big deal though. New ARP head studs and a headgasket and we are ready to seal it back up. Also have a new timing chain, guides, tensioner and oil pump installed and ready to go. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...3713ff59d7.jpg |
Rats. Was looking forward to some big numbers from your UBER BP. I'm sure the K24A2 will be fun too.

Got the motor in, new dash mounted up and my switches mocked up waiting for an overlay to match the paper template in the picture. Next up is finishing the wiring harness on the car. Should actually have a car this summer.

Small photo dump. Rear shock resi's are mounted and making moves on the wiring. IM is on order so once that shows up and I get the fuel sorted I should be ready for a first start. Then I can get the intake and exhaust built.

Woo, progress! Maybe we'll finally get to take both our cars to a trackday this year!
|
Nothing relevant just my 1.8 #ALLOFIT 6758 twin scroll motor I originally planned to use but sold and just finished final assembly. I should add that this is mating to a zf5 trans and getreg diff.

He's doing things!
|
Almost looks like I'm going backwards by making progress with the interior wiring.
|
So the uber BP has finally been delivered. Ended up rocking the 6758 twin scroll. For those of you who have been following this motors life in the build I'll keep updating with info. The motor was sold to a local friend and we should have dyno number this summer. He also has the ZF5 swap to a getreg diff so he should be able to put down some serious power.
Got my switch panel finished up and most of the custom harness done this weekend and starting to test everything before the final loom goes on. Still waiting on my kmiata manifold but then this thing should be able to at least fire up pretty quick! https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...764bbbcc5f.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...57f3df0f0a.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...2c8849568f.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...1fce10d9b9.jpg |
Mostly a small photo dump. Got the wiring harness done and everything circuit tested. Had a bad new starter i had to swap out. All coolant lines done. Intake done. Fuel lines done. Just waiting on an intake manifold gasket that will show up today then I should be able to do the final buttoning up and hopefully get a first start this weekend.

Man reminds of S2000 days all over again. I've replaced for clients 3 engines from the AEM intake that has a similar low point. Sucks up water and boom. But I'll bet you have that figured out already.
|
Yeah i have a tall fill neck at the back of the motor and one on the radiator so getting all the air out should be ez pz

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...645b8830ec.jpg I recently bought this same filter and IIRC the flange ID is 4". I'm trying to fit it to 3" piping. An old K&N filter i bought previously came with a few rubber adapter rings but they are too small for the 4" flange. I'm struggling to source any more of these rubber rings. |
This is the filter I used. Its a 3" velocity stack to the big filter. Then custom intake piping obviously. But silicone intakes makes adapter couplings if needed.

Got the car on the ground and have ride height set. Went with 4.5" pinch weld height. Also got my super duper uber baller coolant overflow until I can get one made or have time to make one. The forum video uploader wont take the first start video off my phone but the car runs. Had an oem O2 sensor that wasnt communicating with the ecu so put in my old aem wideband and made up a mount for it real quick. That brings us to where im at now. Starting to build the exhaust this week and am hoping to have that done this weekend then ill be able to drive around a bit until I see the dyno in august.

Looking like it'll clean up pretty nice. For some reason I thought I was subscribed but just found this and got caught up
up. Are you able to snap a picture looking straight down on the intake manifold on the corner of the manifold nearest the brake master cylinder? Trying to get an idea of how far it projects over the "shelf" in the engine bay for when I try to run some bars from the cage out to the shock towers. |
Just a photo dump. These are the only shots of the exhaust I have but it sounds good and not ricey at all. Ducting is pretty much all done other than an extra rear mount. Valve cover is in the mail so I can close the hood. Only things left is to finish programming the dash before dyno time end of september.

Yeah, but have you driven it to work yet?

Ducting looks great, nice work

Old posts were deleted? Why?

I cleaned up the build thread, refund was given. If someone is unhappy with a sale from this forum we have a iTrader section that you can leave feedback on the seller. That is the correct place to do it, not cluttering up a build thread. We added iTrader something like a decade ago to give a place to review people and their sales.

UPDATE. I drove the miata around the block. I may or may not get dyno tuning and an alignment before summer. Lithium micro battery is junk and needs replaced and I need to wire all the dash sensors or learn how to program CAN. The car is definitely way more of a rattling stiff thing than I remember but I have been spoiled driving the blue smirf around. But yeah might actually have a trackable car this year.
