Neat thread -- I just picked up an identical car (93 MB Touring, 55k miles). What do you think of the Ohlins on the street? My car has some Eibach/Bilstein setup and it rides like absolute garbage. The Xidas in my NA are like a Cadillac compared to this thing.

i would certainly buy ohlins again. They handle so well street or autocross. Make sure to get some battle versions arms from J-Auto and any bushings you might need that squeak or pop driving the FD. Nice find and keep her simple and clean.

i want to share with everyone the accident i had 8/17 that totaled the FD

I had driven the FD from Florida to Iowa to visit in-laws for a week. The car did a wonderful job with 0 issues on the way up. We took smaller roads to enjoy the scenery and small towns every state had to offer on the way up for 3 days.
Within the last 30 miles of the trip and 45 mins away from our destination, I had been using cruise control as I had been for the majority of the trip. Certainly saved my foot from falling asleep. 1,400 miles will do so.

So the county road we were on had beautiful fields of corn and soybeans growing on either side of us with the hills rolling like a ship at sea going up and down waves of the ocean. I was on cruise control enjoying the dusk colors and Jeanne was dreaming out the window. As I was set on cruise and approaching the top of another hill and the county line was switching over, so did the road conditions. We had went from full black top pavement to rough gravel in a blink of an eye. I had yelled at Jeanne to Hold On! I cancelled cruise control as we were already on gravel road going 55 using the brakes as an instant reaction. No feet were on the pedals prior because of using CC. The car swerved left and I corrected. It swerved right and we were facing a deep embankment. I corrected again. The car then swerved left and was slowing down but not fast enough before going off into the left side of the embankment.

We were both okay and no airbags deployed.

We had landed perched on top of a tree log that had stopped us. A branch went through the mouth of the bumper and the drivers side took most of the impact. We waited for four hours to get ride from the two company. Brought the car back to the Family Farm and waited. The negotiations took a while for the value of the vehicle which turned into months. The car stayed on the Farm over winter and once I had bought another FD 6 months later(this past february) we shipped both FDs to IRperformance to start the healing process. They swapped pretty much everything we had previously done to the Montego blue to the Chaste White Rx7 and more. The damage isn't as dramatic as the pictures look so we were able to successfully swap from one car to the other.

I brought the both cars back to Florida and they are sitting in the garage. I also have hagerty insurance on the 95 Chaste white for an agreed value so that we don't take such a loss financially again. We were able to brush our knees and elbows off this situation and come out very lucky with the new Rotary.

So glad to see you're back on the road again in the new (to you) RX-7! Will you be bringing this one out to any central FL events or autocrosses this fall? Also, is that a Velocity Red MSM rearview mirror?

BlackBandit 10-01-2018 08:09 PM

We shall see about autocrossing. And the mirror is a VR Msm mirror. I had one in the black nb. I desired to have one for the Rx7 and the red just pops on the white and black. I had a new windshield put in and was lucky to find the mirror at the same time so they can glue it on.

It was rough on the outside. The interior was mint. People stayed away from this rare 95 because it was automatic. Irperformance did a full manual swap on it.

Happy Halloween!!!
