So I was pretty intimidated taking the entire front assembly of the motor apart like airbox, battery, intercooler, and upper radiayor hose but it wasn't all that bad.

Found out why my temp gauge started to creep and a burning electrical smell. It was the fan. So on Monday I'll be ordering two new fans with new hardware. I absolutely hate rust but love airplane stripper. That stuff ate up everything.

Thanks for taking pics. I need to get in there and upgrade my radiator. Nice to get an idea of what is all down there.

BlackBandit 10-12-2014 01:00 PM

I am going to make a write up since there isn't one. I can help you out with the process. I had to figure it out.

BlackBandit 10-17-2014 11:32 PM

I forgot to make a how to.. pm me so I can write it up

Regarding suspension in the rear, I'm replacing every bushing. Though some are not available in the aftermarket world and need to be directly sourced through mazda, I don't know of I want to stick with all oem or go stiffer? I was wondering if there is a compound that is mazda competition stiff but stiff provides a comfortable ride.

Nope. FD is an "R" box.

I was also curious about the shifters, though...

I have a B2600 transmission sitting here that has an RX7 shifter in it, so that works, and i'd assume vice versa.

I suppose i could throw a spare Miata shifter in there and see how that goes. Would love to have a MiataRoadster tall angled shifter in my FD box end game.

That would be nice to know. Maybe if they fit I can order one and quite possibly have miataroadster become an rx7 vendor

Since she got no attention yesterday, here are some pictures I took this evening waiting around for the partial eclipse. Which, by the way, wasn't as successful. I've never tried to snap photos of the sun before and didnt get it right.

Autocrossed the Gal this past weekend. I'm diagnosing if I have a legit power steering leak.

What I did to remedy that was cleaning everything around the reservoir and the reservoir itself. I added dye to see if its a hose or not because the reservoir is still full. I replaced the cap for preventive cheap measures.

I have some issues I need to clear up like Why am I keeping my hand on the shifter for so long? Why am I not having both hands on the steering wheel like I should be doing instead swagging it out one handed on the course?

Need to work on that. Also the video is my best time. 49.813

I was getting 50.2- 50.7 all day long. So I was enthusiastic about breaking under 50

Looks like a helluva course, and looked pretty fast to me. Nice work.

BlackBandit 11-26-2014 08:51 AM

I felt the course was tight and constricted. It had two slaloms one going into a a left turn down a straight at beginning and one towards the end of the video where after a straight went into a slalom with a tight left and right.

Regardless I was happy with my results completely stock and torn bushings.

Today the car is getting the front windshield pulled to replace the moulding and stripping around the perimeter. It's curling and exposing what's underneath. I don't want a future problem with rust where water seeps in little pockets of the old adhesive. I was told that the previous owner also quite possibly tried to add a adhesive himself to fix the issue. So I'm going in there with oem seals getting the job done right.

BlackBandit 01-14-2015 09:32 AM

The car is getting a complete sequential system service;

Update the crankcase and turbo vent breather system

by passing the warm up system "Florida is warm already" and fuel regulator switch

Fit sequential control system with HD hose and install over boost safety circuit

calibrating system actuators

tune up: plugs, wires, fuelfilter, servicing ignition system, fuel system, airfilter, tune and adjust for optimum performance and longevity

Install thermostat, fan switch, replace turbo cooling hoses, flushing system, pressure check cooling system, service cooling fan relays, update central system, verify proper operation

185f fan switch

Green engine sensor temp

Cold air induction system with ICD cover kit, dual K&N filters and "V" duct inlet system off road use

Cool power kit, twin turbo 20ft. Woven thermal barrier

fully isolated shifter short stroke

Pulleykit, alternator and water pump belt

The car is at Mazda right now. The reason is because after I installed a remanufactured alternator, it seemed one of the wires to the sensor clip that plugs in the alternator was stripped out of its connector.

The power supply cable from the alternator started to burn and melt causing a plastic burn smell. I got the car towed to Mazda from Orlando to Melbourne using AAA.

So the car is getting a new Co-harness to fix the burnt current one. The cars low beams also are not working simultaneously as this all happened. I also am getting a full inspection done because I'm driving to DGRR and afterwards taking a cross country trip in the Rx-7.

So while the car is at mazda, I'm getting brand new coil packs and in the next couple weeks having mazda replace all the bushings.

Now you think I'm crazy having the dealership work on the car and pay dealership prices but I'm receiving quality work on one special mechanic who has worked on rotaries since 1990 and I'm paying for oem parts at wholesale price.

I can't wait to get my car back.

I'd love to see it.

Okay so it's finalized.
Speaking with James from Mazda competition has been extremely pleasant. He helped me out multiple times and we together made sure what I needed.

J-auto helped me out for 40 mins on the phone for everything else Mazda competition didn't have. We went over my order from Mazda and created an order over the phone on his Web site to make sure the entire job was complete front to back.-
I purchased Mazda competition bushings. They are stiffer rubber oem bushings that are not available in the factory.-

I went with j-auto pillow balls with j auto toe links, inner/auto tie rods/ boot covers, ball joint boots, and super pro trailing arm bushing.-

After the help here online and to James and j-auto, I feel like I am making the right decision.

BlackBandit 03-31-2015 11:17 AM

So I got a used exhaust from Pettit racing because there is a giant hole that's unrepairable on top of the oem muffler. It's a 3 inch far can. Well see how long this will last. I have my eyes on a full titanium cat back.
