Haha, that's hilarious. Yeah, I'll use that Johnsen's stuff to clean up oil drips and brake fluid but that's about it. Glad the non-"brake cleaner" products have that loophole going for them for now at least.

I think @SimBa had a couple clips of his exhaust note from when he first installed it? Or maybe I'm remembering wrong... Seems like something that would help Michael if he put them on his site. Guess he doesn't have much spare time with being a mad scientist and all, though. Dude's been off the rails designing all sorts of new stuff the last few months it looks like.

I'll second that on depowering. It's annoying street driving the car for like a week and then you just get used to it haha. I think the PS on my NC lasted maybe two or three weeks lol.
Honestly, I noticed almost no difference in steering effort moving from 205s to 225s to 245s on my NA. And I don't have super strong arms by any means either. Maybe I'm just a smooth-brained neanderthal lol.

Clip of my NA where you can kinda hear the exhaust note before wind noise takes over. This was before deleting the resonator. Both with and without the resonator, the turbo was audible over the exhaust at full throttle, which I think was sick haha.

This is probably the best clip that I have considering it's an external view. This was my old setup with an old 2.5" FM Downpipe with a leaking flex pipe. That went to the 3" Kraken exhaust with a resonator and muffler, no cat.
I later went back to add a cat because my car smelled horrible, but I think that was partially to do with the leaking flex pipe.

Nice, thank you both. That sounds real good - I'm looking for that ratio of 1/3 exhaust 1/3 turbo 1/3 motor or close too it. I am prolly also part neanderthal and I liked my catless e50 exhaust smell I ran with last summer.

Ya I'd say the Kraken is great. I have the 3" no cat with a resonator and muffler. I think the sound is perfect. I prefer cars on the quieter side these days to be honest. Not sure but the catless smell doesn't bother me a bit either.

Regarding the flex section, I think that's always a good idea to be in the system somewhere to allow some movement. The Kraken DP incorporates a flex section in it.

Some more updates

-trans back together. New master, slave, line, clutch from 949. new oem seals on input and out.
-rack out for depower. New outer ends and rack spacers
-new diff and axles back in
-non rusty fuel tank and non rusty sending unit back in. Running walbro 190 and a short piece of ptfe line for the pump-to-sending unit.
-ebc harness in and fittings on

I’m waiting on the rack, then I can toss in the sway bar. Should be good to put motor and trans back in as well. Big list of front brakes, hard top window, and intake/exhaust stuff of course; but progress.

It’s not lost on me that I keep posting an unfinished car hahah. External motivation.

Got the Rack depowered from Advance Autosport and reinstalled. Currently exploring the multitude of diy toe-in plates and tools…

1-1/16 27mm unknown brand sway bar in
-949 reinforcement mounts
-universal 27m Energy suspension mounts
-FM end links

Motor back in as well! Time to hook everything up wiring and fuel line -wise

949 Reroute bleeding on a 1.6: I see 3 options
-No access to bleed screw with coil on

1. Car hot/thermo open, shut car off, remove coil, bleed
2. drill hole in cowl to reach bleed screw with 1/4 socket (cap/seal hole)
3. 1/8 npt 90 and remote braided 12" hose with bleed screw at the end.

I'll default to option 1 to start. love option 3 for repeatability.

Dunno if this is the best method but on mine, I just filled the cooling system with the bleed screw open until bubbles stopped coming out of said screw. Closed screw. Raised front tires 10 inches off the ground. Stuck a bleed funnel in the radiator cap inlet, filled it, and let the car idle until the thermostat opened, squeezing the upper hose on and off the whole time. Dropped the front end back on the ground with the funnel still installed and let the car sit until cold. Couple steps were probably overkill, but it always seemed to work.

Car's looking a lot closer to finished despite your initial remark! Can't wait to see it run.

Got this lovely package from kraken last month.
i have the 1.6 hybrid FM mani/dp- so i went with the kraken intercooler kit and NA8 2.5 2 bolt to 3 inch back exhaust with resonator.

i installed the intake side pipes, hoses and got the intercooler tapped for the ait.

used the FM reroute hose for my thicc CST radiator. Found a 1-1/2 clamp from grainger to hard mount the reroute hose to the intake brace bolt.

Found a nice solution for my lower radiator hose- I used the old upper and a cut down piece from the old lower, then a joiner to connect them. These hoses were from last summer.

installed the exhaust so I could fire this damn thing up for some extra motivation! She runs! I’ll throw some coolant in and do some other checks..Still need to address exhaust heat shielding and at a later point the front bumper and tray.

It's still on stands as I wrap up brake stuff. I idled it for 15 mins to check for leaks & monitor tuner studio parameters- SO do not know yet! Come to think of it I didn't even tap the throttle (what the hell!?) Was busy making sure it had oil pressure and no extra noises...

Damn midwest weather is still in the 30-50f range, but I'm charged up to get this thing on the ground. Hours of tuning awaits me hahaha. Z make sure you LS swap that thing before kids

I'm thinking LFX is more likely but yeah I'm with you hahaha. Can't wait to see that thing move under its own power!

Been a while for updates. I wrapped up the VTA breather and routing. Exhaust is all on, but ill have to pull the decat pipe and get a my flex piece welded in.

The 949 Hybrid mounts feel great, and there is a definite increase in NVH. Tolerable for a daily, or weekend car.
**I installed the Super Pro poly diff inserts and the 949 1.8 oragnic clutch at the same time, so all 3 are part of the change to be fair.

Now for the driving. It feels so nice to have power! Max map that i've hit is 150kpa at 1/3 to 1/2 throttle, but lord is it nice to accelerate. I have the boeing 737 atp anti-surge compressor housing, so it makes all the cool noises. The turbosmart bypass valve (not the dual bov style) is pleasant and not obnoxious, but not quiet. Having the bumper and hood off helps...

Now begins the tuning process and rechecking knock sensor. Seems the noise level at idle is louder now. I have it filled with E40 to be safe while dialing VE in. Again repping the Beer Money Motorsports ECU, as it displays & adjusts based on flex% & fuel temp. Onboard wideband & EGO is keeping lambda in check while in boost on my 3 short logs. Looks like some AE changes are needed tho.

I installed the DIY bilsteins (450/300) last fall right before teardown, which was limited to a 10 minute drive. So cumulatively about a half hour. They feel great and would not go any softer for anyone inquiring, but stock 91 front bar was way too weak on the street. Now, last month I threw on the 1-1/16 front bar and links/blocks (unknown brand/zinc coated) so we'll have some dialing in to do.

Jeez I just keep remembering all the things from my full winter resto - I have no feedback on the 4.3 to now 4.1 Torsen swap yet. Can tell its geared different on take off is about it.

All new brakes,rotors, and fluid. Stoptech 1.6 309 's F/R

Car is now fun It shortens up my tuning roads! The log below was done in 4th gear.
Just pulled 1 degree per lb of boost and filled with e40. Lots of VE work to do.

Boost build quick. Dips 1psi at peak VE in the 4000 rpm range then back up near redline. I have the EBC hooked up and lines go from comp housing to solenoid to actuator. happy that theres a decent & level boost amount.

Congrats! Something about those first few boosted pulls, it's magic, and honestly the novelty doesn't wear off. If I ever end up taking mine for granted hopping into my NB is a good reminder of how special the turbo car is. And when something breaks on it and isn't running right I'm reminded of just how dog slow it is without the magic spooly boi.

Thanks dudes. To be able to accelerate quickly now IN THIS CAR makes it all worth it. Were all addicted to this awesome slow *** car and now i get all these fun terbski noises...I have hundreds of hours over 10 plus years of reading this forum and appreciate all the help.

Lookin good man! This is how the car should've come, with a little snail on it. I can't recall do you have a built motor? I'm jealous of the folks that have built motors and can push a little more boost w/o having to worry about rods bending.. Honestly though even on "low boost" the car is a lot of fun and should keep up with a lot of cars now.
