My turbo-less widebody '94

3 Attachment(s)
I think it's about time I've started a thread for this particular vehicle.

It started it's life as a base model '94 with A/C and no P/S. I bought it as a beater daily driver but ended up keeping just this car. It came with carbon fiber fender flares, KYB AGX w/ H&R springs, RB front and rear sway bars, and a style bar:
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1399412646

After some time I bought a '04 MSM which became my daily and I've started working on this car.

This is what it looked like after body shop was done with it:
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1399412646

Skip a month, I found some time to install the Dapper Lighting 7 Inch Classic V2 Projector Kit:
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1392345684

Skip another couple of months, I've installed Feal 441 coilovers, Wilwood 11" front brakes and M-tuned rear brakes with Carbotech XP-8 all around.
Attachment 239264

How much for the FEAL coilovers shipped to 87571?

curly 05-06-2014 07:41 PM

I'll take the clutch and flywheel.

You want me to move this to the correct section?

Ooo, I'll take those 6ULs!

Looks good though. How good are those headlights? I've seen their website just haven't seen many user reviews.

I still need to hook up angel eyes, but it's not so high on a priority list for now. They are damn good though. I've got the 5K version and I can see clearly everywhere. Cutoff is good, high beams are just awesome.

soviet 05-06-2014 10:34 PM

what spacers are you using?

Shitty ones that I'm not going to run on the track. I'm waiting for some 20mm hubcentric spacers right now. Will run those if they come on time.

buffon01 05-06-2014 10:45 PM

Get the bronze 15x8 6ULs instead so I can buy them off you later.

Good luck!

I would most definitely not ship those ;)

50 bucks for the lip, shipped? :D

Nobody ever suspects that it's widebody. I like that. Do I need a spare trunk lid if I want an APR wing for track or is there a way to make it detachable without creating an aqueduct in my trunk?

Fireindc 05-08-2014 04:41 PM

Nice man, looks proper. What widebody is that?

Edit: just re-read: AK blister fenders and quarter panels (+30mm I believe)

Those are awesome, i had no idea AK made body parts that didn't look completely outlandish.

Body shop guys spent several days blending everything in and making it all fit together. Fitment was far from perfect but they made it work :)

petrolmed 05-08-2014 05:13 PM

Looks yummy. I dislike fender flares a good bit but a widebody looks killer. Can we get a centered, bumper level pic of the front and rear? Want to see the fatness!

240_to_miata 05-08-2014 07:21 PM

This car makes me wish I bit the bullet and went Widebody when I did the paint. Too bad I was broke and 15x10 6UL's werent out yet...

I want to get the chassis set up properly first. Will probably end up with a NB subframe. Will see how it behaves on track this Sunday and will figure out what's next after that.

As a side project, I'm looking for a NA6 dashboard and I'm waiting for ABS door panels from carbonmiata. Will wrap all that in black suede.

Stealth97 05-09-2014 07:19 PM

Lol@ single user mode.

In for partout. Just send the square top to me when you order it.

Track event went alright, will post videos soon.

UrbanSoot 05-12-2014 07:10 PM

There were 3 crashes that resulted in total loss of all vehicles involved (all drivers are fine). Lots of black flags and yellows. My fastest time was in session 4 (I think), when I was chasing behind some other Miatas. Best time of the day - 1.35.7. Not too bad comparing to my previous 1.32.x in MSM.

Overall I'm very pleased with the car, although I would prefer a little stiffer brake pedal. I'll investigate a bigger booster and master at some point.

Suspension worked flawlessly. I've ended up with 1 click from stiff up front and 5 clicks from stiff in the rear. It absorbed all bumps nicely, felt extremely predictable at all times, and feedback was great. Now just need corner balancing and proper alignment when all the heavy items are moved around and suspension bushings are changed.

I've decided to stick with manual steering. Should I run a depowered rack instead of OEM manual (I have one laying around)? I recall reading that they have different steering ratio.

In one of the videos you might notice that my gauges went blank at some point. Only speedo remained because it's manual. I've changed the fuse and it blew after couple of laps into the following session. I'm assuming a badly insulated wire is somewhere under the dash so that has to come out. I'm actively looking for an NA6 dash now so I can perform the swap soon (maybe this weekend even).

Also, it was VERY difficult to get into a third gear. Not sure what to do about this because I want to change drivetrain anyways, just not right now.

Other updates -
NB version of Beatrush PPF brace is here. Hopefully it fits :)
Certain someone is going to ship me 15x10 6UL's next week. I've canceled my preorder for JB wheels.

Hey dude, this is all so good.

UrbanSoot 05-15-2014 12:50 AM

Thanks. I really like how this car is turning out.

I've got a new exhaust and catalytic converter coming soon, current one is total shit. I'm also suspecting a crack in cheap eBay header. Will have to pull it out to inspect one of these days.

Found a NA6 dashboard! Trying to decide between wrapping it in Suede and flocking. Price will determine the winner. Will have to inspect the wiring while dash is out. Will probably rewire my alarm system at the same time.

Spoke to Reverant and decided that MS3 is the best choice for me. Started researching MegaSquirt serial protocol so I can build a custom dashboard with either Arduino or Beaglebone Black. I'm leaning towards BBB because of amount of resources and flexibility. I definitely prefer to write in Python over C.

My A/C just started blowing hot air and won't take any refrigerant. I think it needs some professional assistance. Car is going back to the body shop this weekend so they can finally finish it. Just need to spray a couple of places and fix clear runs.

Fireindc 05-15-2014 12:59 AM

awesome man, loving all these updates. It looks like you are really using the car. I'd do the basics for the trans first, fluids, shifter bushings, yada. I like the ford motorcraft fluid, made my trans butter

UrbanSoot 05-15-2014 01:24 AM

I'm running Redline 30 weight race oil in engine, Motocraft in tranny and Mobil 1 in diff. Already have delrin shifter bushing and all the seals ;)

UrbanSoot 05-15-2014 03:56 PM

Ordered:
  • MS Labs MS3
  • Squaretop
  • MiataRoadster short throw shifter
  • Some maintenance + wear & tear items

soviet 05-15-2014 11:41 PM

the widebody is so deceiving, it looks like you are running 15x7s under stock fenders.

not sure if I 100% like how it looks with 20mm spacer. I want a widebody and I want 9" wheels that fit over my brakes.

I'm actually thinking of keeping this car for good. It will just become my track car after I save up for Cayman S ;)

Why did you sell your Miata??

dstn2bdoa 05-17-2014 12:55 AM

Yeah, sadly so. It turned into a summer only daily driver. It was way to overbuilt for such a pedestrian life. Even though I'm rolling a very sweet WRB Forester XT, I miss the Miata terribly.

Whats the date on those R80s? Been having a lot of road racer friends getting blow outs with the Hoosier radial slicks this year for some strange reason. Way more than normal.
