I want to get the chassis set up properly first. Will probably end up with a NB subframe. Will see how it behaves on track this Sunday and will figure out what's next after that.

As a side project, I'm looking for a NA6 dashboard and I'm waiting for ABS door panels from carbonmiata. Will wrap all that in black suede.

There were 3 crashes that resulted in total loss of all vehicles involved (all drivers are fine). Lots of black flags and yellows. My fastest time was in session 4 (I think), when I was chasing behind some other Miatas. Best time of the day - 1.35.7. Not too bad comparing to my previous 1.32.x in MSM.

Overall I'm very pleased with the car, although I would prefer a little stiffer brake pedal. I'll investigate a bigger booster and master at some point.

Suspension worked flawlessly. I've ended up with 1 click from stiff up front and 5 clicks from stiff in the rear. It absorbed all bumps nicely, felt extremely predictable at all times, and feedback was great. Now just need corner balancing and proper alignment when all the heavy items are moved around and suspension bushings are changed.

I've decided to stick with manual steering. Should I run a depowered rack instead of OEM manual (I have one laying around)? I recall reading that they have different steering ratio.

In one of the videos you might notice that my gauges went blank at some point. Only speedo remained because it's manual. I've changed the fuse and it blew after couple of laps into the following session. I'm assuming a badly insulated wire is somewhere under the dash so that has to come out. I'm actively looking for an NA6 dash now so I can perform the swap soon (maybe this weekend even).

Also, it was VERY difficult to get into a third gear. Not sure what to do about this because I want to change drivetrain anyways, just not right now.

Other updates -
NB version of Beatrush PPF brace is here. Hopefully it fits :)
Certain someone is going to ship me 15x10 6UL's next week. I've canceled my preorder for JB wheels.

Hey dude, this is all so good.

UrbanSoot 05-15-2014 12:50 AM

Thanks. I really like how this car is turning out.

I've got a new exhaust and catalytic converter coming soon, current one is total shit. I'm also suspecting a crack in cheap eBay header. Will have to pull it out to inspect one of these days.

Found a NA6 dashboard! Trying to decide between wrapping it in Suede and flocking. Price will determine the winner. Will have to inspect the wiring while dash is out. Will probably rewire my alarm system at the same time.

Spoke to Reverant and decided that MS3 is the best choice for me. Started researching MegaSquirt serial protocol so I can build a custom dashboard with either Arduino or Beaglebone Black. I'm leaning towards BBB because of amount of resources and flexibility. I definitely prefer to write in Python over C.

My A/C just started blowing hot air and won't take any refrigerant. I think it needs some professional assistance. Car is going back to the body shop this weekend so they can finally finish it. Just need to spray a couple of places and fix clear runs.

Fireindc 05-15-2014 12:59 AM

awesome man, loving all these updates. It looks like you are really using the car. I'd do the basics for the trans first, fluids, shifter bushings, yada. I like the ford motorcraft fluid, made my trans butter

UrbanSoot 05-15-2014 01:24 AM

I'm running Redline 30 weight race oil in engine, Motocraft in tranny and Mobil 1 in diff. Already have delrin shifter bushing and all the seals ;)
