I forgot he has a top mount. If 3.5" turbo to tip will fit with a top mount, then it shouldn't be too bad with a bottom mount.

Its a really tight fit with my. I cannot remove dp without unbolting driver side engine mount and raise the engine a bit. That 3.5" v-band flange does not come out otherwise...

The overlays only reinforce the idea that he should install a 1.6L that doesn't build boost until 5K; especially since he's quite often around 3800 in corners.

Got second place at the season’s last race. Also ranked second in my class overall this year. I’m pleased consider all of my problems with the brakes and clutch. I have a fastest car by far in my class. Now I only have to learn to drive it fast :)

This is how my gearbox sounds like now :jerkit: Time to get new one I guess

I broke it in last superlap session when my cam sensor got loose. Ecu start cutting fuel in full boost and then when it came back it hit all the 300ftlbs+ torque back to gearbox through unspring twin disc clutch. I would been surprised if my gearbox had withstand that

Pen2_the_penguin 09-01-2013 02:54 PM

Congrats mang!!

thenuge26 09-01-2013 03:56 PM

How easy is it to get another 6-speed in Finland? I hear it is tough in some parts of Europe.

Getting something stronger gets expensive quick.

Good timing breaking it in the last session.

I have good salvage yard contacts in UK. :) 6speed gearboxes cost around 400-600$ in this part of Europe.

When my car started to twitch due fuel cut I knew that I can stop my lap, spare my car and give up my second place or run(all-of-it) it to the end and likely broke something. I’m glad I choose to run it to the end. That move gave me my second place in the season’s final results.

That’s on my to-do list :) as soon as I get new gearbox.

I think my car is the only car in my series that doesn’t have any Dyno tuning on it. All the tuning is done in street at night when there isn’t any traffic

timk 09-02-2013 05:35 AM

I love this car, good work!

I'm jealous you can get gearboxes that cheap too!

Amellrotts 09-02-2013 06:43 PM

My 10AE Turbo build should be complete this week, as if I wasn't already super excited after watching your videos I want to drive that bitch right now!

Very nice build. Thanks for sharing.

Superlap video where my gearbox broke. Note the cam sensor signal

I found 466$ 6speed gearbox from UK but I don't know when I get it

Braineack 09-04-2013 10:16 AM

ever think about not downshifting so early?

muoto 09-04-2013 10:33 AM

thinking isn't my strong point

And I have to begin downshift early! If you haven’t notice my gearbox is broken. There’s a good change that gear isn’t going in at the first try.

muoto 09-07-2013 02:53 PM

Have anyone ever tear down these gearboxes? I mean all the gears work. I guess it’s just the “main shaft gear” etc. that has failed. I’m not sure if 5speed boxes share any same parts...

sixshooter 09-07-2013 03:40 PM

The internal parts of the 6 speeds are the same as the ones in the RX8s. They frankly have a rotten reputation in their racing circles. But in turbo Miata land it is better than our 5 speeds for holding power without breaking. I know a race shop owner with lots of experience with them. Mike at ISC Racing in Florida.

sixshooter 09-07-2013 03:42 PM

And they share no parts with the 5 speeds from what I have heard.

muoto 09-08-2013 06:47 AM

sixshooter, thanks for the info

RX-8’s are cheap in Europe. They go for around 2K$ so there’s good change to find them in salvage yards. I have to keep my eyes open.

Hee-yo bitches!

Time to start preparing car for new season. This years plan:
- New sprung clutch. Probably FM lvl2 happymeal
- BFG rival R15 225/45
- EV14 1300cc injectors
- sport rear brake adapters + new discs
- Hawk DTC-60 brake pads to all corners

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1394440953
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1394440953
Get twin disc clutch they said. it will be fun they said :jerkit:

Decide not to invest 900$ for ID1300 and instead go for EV14 from Finjector. I paid $500 for a set. Not bad

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1396037265

Next in to-do list is to fabricate thermostat housing for re-route spacer and installing FM2 lvl2 happy meal

...and the lvl2 clutch. I know this is going to protect my gearbox better as I had same sprung clutch disk with my previous lvl1 clutch setup

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1396446095

Apparently my EV14 injectors are with JETRONIC plugs and not the USCAR ones that I thought. Now I have wrong adaptors goddammit

18psi 04-02-2014 09:46 AM

so will you be detuning to a level the clutch will hold? pretty sure it won't last long with your current power level

Well, Harald (hf-mx5t) has run his FM lvl2 with 400whp few years before it began to slip  And by look of his FB page he now has new FM lvl2 clutch and more than 400whp

18psi 04-02-2014 10:15 AM

wow that's impressive. didn't know they could hold that much more over their "rated" capacity

Kramer 04-02-2014 11:20 AM

Came third in the first race. Weather was f**kin' cold and it was raining hailstones at one point. So a typical Finnish summer. I didn’t really get my tires warm at any point and was spinning them all the time.

Even if I had got these heated I doubt there would been any traction

Video of me driving poorly with cold worn tires :bang:

It began to go entertaining after 8:00 min mark :D

I really had to set up some kind a TPS based EBC settings so I can exit corners faster. Adaptronic has that option but I haven’t really look in to it yet.

Next I’m going to try Hawk DTC-60 brake pads that you racing guys here so recommend. Going to be interesting to see if they bite better than current Ferodo DS3000 pads which are awesome.

Dear mt.net diary. Today I became a man and removed power steering

sixshooter 05-11-2014 06:59 PM

Congrats. Did you get the alignment down to a reasonable caster to make it comfortable to steer?

muoto 05-12-2014 02:16 AM

I haven’t check the caster yet. I have to make real PS depower later with wheel alignment now it’s just looped lines. Works great thought. :)

Also I enable TPS based EBC boost settings. That should make partial throttle on the corners much better. I wouldn’t be surprised if that take few seconds off my lap times. It’s funny how in my class I got slowest car on corners and fastest on the straight line and I drive a Miata :jerkit:

Depowered steering and smoother boost control better gonna help me win the next race

timk 05-12-2014 07:48 AM

Yeah depowered steering is awesome! I have my first event on the 26th with the TPS based boost control, I'll let you know how it goes and hopefully get video too.

sixshooter 05-12-2014 12:27 PM

When you depower the rack be certain to drain the rack of as much fluid as possible without removing the rack from the car. You don't need to add steering effort by pumping unnecessary fluid back and forth.

timk 05-13-2014 08:49 PM

Just out of interest what are you using to gather the ECU data?

Are you running Adaptive Tuner and RaceChrono at the same time on the same device?

Cheers
