The 'can't afford Miata parts because building a house' club.
At least we will have a place to fix them when they break.
I've always found it interesting the differences in building style/requirements because of location.
Where I'm at it seems pretty rare to not have a basement, but in places like Texas, I think its pretty rare to see.

I just received my Monoprice order for all my speaker and cat6 wire/connectors.
Main living room, master bedroom, and garage should all be wired for surround sound. I plan on also running wiring for whole home audio.
Every room will have 2 cat6 drops, key rooms will have 4.
House will be wired for PoE security cameras as well.

What’s the narrow space in the basement behind the 2 car long garage? Stairwell?

Yep, I wanted a second set of stairs to the basement. I didn't want to have to walk through the house to get to the basement.

Good idea. You don't see that much in the midwest unless it's a "walkout". Nice house.

read through your build, I like it a lot. I'm working on mine now (finishing up maintenance soon i hope) and I'm going TD04. It will be interesting to see how they compare (im 1.6 also).

Nice house! I'm still in a rental... and I've never seen a basement much less been in one so I've never really paid their entrance and exit any thought

Thanks, guys. TD04 with all other things being equal should spool a decent bit better than my eBay T25.

I really want to go to a K series. However, after the house is finished I doubt I will be able to swing a motor swap. I will probably try and make a better flowing manifold and stay with the 1.6/T25 combo until I can save up enough to go K swap. Materials to make the new manifold/downpipe would be under 200 dollars and only cost me my time. It would be fun to see the spool differences between log and low mount manifolds on my car.

Wouldn't it be faster/cheaper/easier to rebuild your actual t25?

The difference between the real deal and the churbo would be interesting as well. Then I would bet any manifold/DP changes would be even more noticeable as well...

I bought a rebuild kit and attempted to rebuild but there is still way too much play in the shaft. I clearly messed something up or bought the wrong rebuild kit. I'm not sure and I am a bit over it.
I would rather spend my time making a new manifold than figuring out where I went wrong with the turbo rebuild. Making the log was fun, and making a more complex manifold would also be enjoyable. Gives me a chance to practice welding more.
Maybe after that, I might feel like revisiting rebuilding the turbo. Another rebuild kit would cover almost half of the materials to make a new manifold.

At this point, it's more about learning fabrication than improving performance for me. I enjoy that almost as much as driving the car.

"When you pull your car into the garage does your house say 'Is it in yet?'".

Miata went into winter storage at my father's garage 3 weeks ago, I just didn't have the time to enjoy it and I needed 4 doors to haul stuff around.
Cement is in. HVAC is in. Electrical is in. Septic is in. Most of our inspections are done. Insulation and siding go on this week.
Most of last week I spend running low voltage in the house while the electrician was there. 2000 ft of CAT6. 750 ft of speaker wire. 25 ethernet drops all ran to the basement where my server rack will live. Every room has at least 2 drops. The living room is wired for 9.2 surround sound. Master bedroom wired for 5.1. Both living room and master have redundant wires ran in the wall in case we ever wanna switch to in-wall speakers. Wires ran for whole home audio. Who knows if I will ever use all of it but I figured I would only have one chance to do this so I went all out.

I also got a second job at Best Buy 2 weeks ago just to get the employee discount to buy all of our appliances.
Here are a couple teaser photos of whats been going on.

Which is ironic since I am a software engineer for a WiFi and Bluetooth company

HDMI will be pulled through the conduit after drywall is up. Mainly because my Best Buy discount isn't active yet...

Hoping to move in February! I cannot wait to get in and have more room to start working on the Miata again.

Thanks, I have a cousin who lives outside of Tampa and he said the same thing. We wanted to build a forever home so we went all out with what we could afford while taking into account if one of us got sick or couldn't work anymore.

Way too late, but I did try in the beginning. Wife said hell no. The basement will have one though, that way I can wash my hands and stuff without having to go through any living areas. Hoping to start moving in middle of February.
