Same with the radio I can't decide though if I want a screen + raspberry pi or a single din radio + 3 gauges.

I plan on getting my silver plastic dipped, maybe a high quality carbon fiber print.

I'm waiting on a few more parts to come in, then I'll be doing 3 gauge DIN panel and a blanking plate for the other DIN slot. I'm going to put a Bluetooth amp in the dash behind the blanking plate so I can still listen to my jams.

I know, I know.

This is the latest version though from 2014. Full standalone and its got some cool features. It popped up for cheap and it's what the local tuner prefers, so I decide to try it out.

Seems like they work pretty well for the MSM crowd. I'll know more next week once I can dick with it for a few days.

DON'T do that, when plasti-dip gets nicked-up it looks ratty and you'll need to peel it off and redo it.

I HATE the silver trim on the MSM gauges and radio+HVAC, the gauge trim looks cheap - faux chrome. When you replace the rado/CD unit with an aftermarket one, the silver HVAC looks crap:


For the centre console and gearshift surrounds, just replace them with black ones from a regular MSM (I actually like mine and kept them).

For the HVAC I used black vinyl dye, it needs multiple light coats (5-6), it seeps into the plastic and look OEM - abd unlike paint, it wont flake off. After 4 years it still looks like it was originally black.

Got off early today so I ran home and installed the Adaptronic. Tomorrow is supposed to rain like crazy and I wanted to get it in before the deluge so I can tune in the dry.

Literally popped the ECU in, calibrated the TPS, and turned the key. Fired up on the first try and idled rock solid. Can't wait to dive in tomorrow.

Spent the morning playing around with the Adaptronic. Cold start, hot start, and idle were great on with this thing from the first turn of the key.

Messed around with the PID settings for a bit but wasn't able to get them figured out. I found Brain's PID tuning post from long ago and tried it but I think I need to do some more reading up on the Adaptronic PID specifically. The idle is rock solid until you start adding electrical loads, then it starts to oscillate. There is some idle droop when coming to a stop as well. I was able to mess with the dashpot settings a little and got it good enough to drive though.

I drove it around a bit in slow converge autotune mode today and the drivability is fantastic right out of the box. Can't believe how much smoother this ECU is than factory.

I have been dailying this car with the Adaptronic running open loop, working on getting it sorted. Still need to polish up a few things, but its already worlds better than how it ran on the stock ECU. Got my idle droop issue solved in open loop and with a couple hours of messing around I was able to get my closed loop idle working well too. It's not quite stock ECU like, but getting closer.

The biggest issue I have run into so far is the adaptive tuning not really working correctly. If I turn it on it just makes GIANT mountains of the same value in my VE table across the entire RPM range. I'm sure its just some issue with my settings, I need to mess with it some more.

The other problem I ran into is that the base tune runs the VTCS on an RPM switch at 3000 RPM? Once I set them, to open at zero RPM the car ran a million times better.

I ordered a MAC EBC and some ID750s yesterday. Once I have time to install them both I am off to the dyno for a tune.

Travis (Boundary Engineering) wrote a nice guide for tuning the Adaptronic e420c which is still applicable today, including an "Idiot's Guide" section on PID tweaking.

Google the following, including the plus sign and double-quotes, and save the .pdf file:

Thanks Lokiel, that was one of the bits of documentation I found when looking into the Adaptronic. I used that PDF on my initial set up attempt. I think I was paying to much attention to the values Travis referred to as "normal". Kept thinking I was on the wrong track.

Okibi on the MSM forum pointed me in the direction of a post Andy from Adaptronic made regarding what values to use in a revised base map he created. I landed not for from Andy's revised settings, using Travis' guide to help me out. Its pretty good now.

I am curious what other folks are using for EBC set up/settings, though.

Updates!

Swapped out my home made Bilstein coils for some FCM I grabbed for cheap and sent down to Poway to have Bilstein rebuild.





550/350 felt pretty soft when I had this car on the track for MMRLS last year so I decided to try 600/450 with a stock NA rear bar and hollow RB up front. So far it's much more comfy on the street. Very pleased.

Swapped the clutch master out last weekend and re-adjusted the clutch pushrod. I was getting some bad chatter in first and reverse that I thought was associated with the FM1 clutch but it was just bad existing hardware. Car is now shifting like butter, except when turning so I think some Mazcomp diff and motor mounts are in store soon.

Adaptronic tuning is coming along nicely too. After some tweaking I have been able to get my adaptive tuning working properly so after roughing out the fuel map I have been driving around letting it slow converge. I am STILL waiting on the ID725s I ordered a month ago to show up and once they get here I can get them installed and get this thing to the tuner.

Car is turning out to be an awesome daily!
