Default PdXocet's Exocet Build

Ok, Let's start this build off!
I am completely new to the miata world as well as turbo cars. I have been a huge car fan all of my life, always trying to do things myself. Last year I decided it was time to start a new hobby after selling my sportbike (Promised my wife I would sell it when we had our first kid). The bike is gone and I purchased an Exomotive Exocet kit car.

I put my deposit down on the car in August of 2014 and quickly began looking for a donor miata. I searched craigslist and wrecked vehicle auctions for months always missing out on the good deals. I finally won an auction for a car that was a few hours away. I purchased it hoping it still had a torsen diff in it with only the picture of the power antenna to go on for evidence that it was the original package I wanted.

After getting it home the tear down began. The car had seen better days but for the most part was perfect for what I needed. Every part that was damaged was a part that was not needed. Not bad for $1100 including all fee's.

I stripped the car down in a few days time. It was nice to have an air compressor with an impact gun. I also picked up a harbor freight engine lift and engine stand.

overall the car seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. The engine has some oil leaks but all cylinders had 178-180 compression. I plan to replace all seals and do a timing belt/waterpump/coolant reroute.

At first I planned on degreasing the chassis and then calling it good, that quickly changed as I decided it wasn't good enough. So off came all of the suspension and out to powdercoat it went.

I posted the wrecked miata shell on craigslist for free to get it out of my way. That was the biggest pain in the *** of all time. I spent the entire day answering calls from people wanting to chop the car up in my driveway to people asking me to help them lift it into their truck. I finally had a guy call that said he had a trailer. I told him I had an engine lift and could help load, little did I know it wasn't a flat bed. I finally lifted it onto the trailer and sent him on his way.

when I got the parts back from the coaters I installed the new poly bushings and zerk fittings.

Finally sometime in February I received confirmation that my kit had shipped. A quick trip to uhaul for a trailer and off to UPS freight.

after I broke down the pallet I took the engine hoist and lifted the chassis onto the reassembled rollerskate.

This is where my car has been sitting for the past few months as life and other projects have taken priority. You may have noticed that my last picture had a Corbeau forza sport seat in it, that will not work as its not low enough to clear the cage for me (6ft tall).

Update to today:
This last week I have ordered a ton of stuff in order to get this build going and get some use out of this car before summer comes to an end.

The Gameplan:

Motor/Turbo

-1.8 with garrett 2560 turbo and flyin miata manifold/downpipe (I picked it up on craigslist cheap). I also am ordering flying miata's silicone intercooler pipes (compressor to IC and IC to BOV attachment. I plan to use an ebay intercooler to keep costs down. This build has pushed my budget way beyond where I started.
Cooling
-Coolant reroute via MT spacer/kia waterneck -Already have
-Mishimoto NA radiator/spal fans -Need to order fans

Injectors
GT500 EV14 -Flowforceinjectors -Already have

Blowoff Valve
- Turbosmart Kompact recirculating (I hate the ricer sound)

EMS-
DIY PNP with sequential injection and IAT sensor -Should be arriving in a few days. I can't wait to solder this thing. It's been awhile since I've soldered a circuit board.

Suspension
New Bilstein NB shocks with allstar sleeves. I'm still deciding on spring rate. (my son is part of the reason the build has stalled, totally worth it though)

Tires/Wheels
225/45/15 Hankook RS3 V2

Wheels- Traklite holeshot 15x8 +0 (I have to have a 0 offset due to the constraints of the chassis)

Seats
Ultrashield rally sport 16" 20degee layback-Waiting for them to arrive so I can fab up some mounts and have the chassis powdercoated.

Anyways I am tired of typing. This is the beginning of a build that will hopefully come together fairly quickly.

Outstanding! The only thing that bothers me is the stupid 0 offset crap. Those wheels they sell suck.

Pics look even better on a bigger screen, keep it up!

Order those springs already, they can always be swapped out later.

I completely agree with you on that. I am building the car for a weekend crusier/track day toy. I will most likely run the smallest spacers I can and some new tires/wheels for the track.

I just got word that my seats are about 6 weeks out. That is not acceptable to me, so I changed my order to Kirkey 47 series aluminum instead. They shipped one this morning and the other will ship in a couple of days.

I am also on the lookout for a trailer. I am thinking something small like a 7x14 aluminum flat bed single axle. The car is so light that I think the double axle will be overkill. I want to be able to maneuver the trailer around my house with ease if need be and a tandem axle trailer is not that easy to move by yourself. I may even have a custom trailer built that can fit in my garage, the problem is I have two small doors instead of the 1 big one. almost all trailers are too wide to fit through a single garage door.

It has been awhile since I have posted. I have been working on coming up with an intercooler solution that would fit with my Exocet bodywork without having to cut up the fiberglass like others are doing with the FM2 intercooler pipes. Some have voiced concerns about the long cold side charge pipe. I am having clearance issues with the hood and can't just run a straight shot from the throttle body.

Before you point out the obvious this is just a mock up. don't worry about the zip ties or horribly dirty garage.

veeerynice build. But that piping really isn't much longer than what you'd normally see in a miata. sure, if you cut the hood you could have it shorter. but how much are you really losing this way?

Did you order the chassis with no powder coat and if so why? It looks like bare steel

So it would be a fair bit of work, but you could have the radiator outlet moved closer to the center of the rad, and a flat piece weld on the top passenger side, giving you more clearance for the straight shot piping. Just a thought

I ordered it without powdercoat so that I could make sure everything fit the way I wanted it to. I am just about ready to tear it all back apart and have it coated. It is more work but this way it should go back together very smoothly with less chance of scratching the powdercoat.

Changed the top bar to make it easier to enter/exit and give more headroom.

New powdercoat: prismatic powders striker gold deluxe

Seat mounts welded in as low as possible

Turbo all buttoned up. I just need to tap the oil pan. I decided to go with all AN fittings and had a local shop build my oil return line.

Wiring is mostly installed. I will need to shorten the ECU wiring harness that goes to the passenger seat. Not looking forward to that. I soldered my megasquirt DIY PNP last week and will hook that up as soon as my final fuel fittings arrive.

Stainless lines.

I just finished up ordering my springs and allstar sleeves for my cheap bilstein coilovers. I went with 350/250 summit springs. I think Xida's will be in my future but these will do for the coming year.

Thanks, today is one of those days where nothing goes right. I tapped my oil pan and tried to connect my AN-10 line.... too short by about half and inch. FML I am debating on whether I should just order a union fitting and a male to male adaptor to lengthen it or just have a new line made. Either way i wasted another 50 bucks.

So, I figured out how to make it work. Went back to the shop that built it and picked up a 45 degree fitting. that did the trick. Now I just need to install the flowforce injectors and plug in the megasquirt.

Did you order your free v2 upgrade yet? If not let me know and I'll send one your way. http://www.flowforceinjectors.com/pr...20-kit-upgrade

I didn't know about the spacers. I already installed them and everything seemed fine.

It is so close to starting.... AHHH

will it be okay if I run the basemap at idle for a minute or two to make sure everything is okay? I have a wideband but no exhaust to stick it in yet, that comes next week, hopefully.

I installed a Wilwood prop valve today and buttoned up the last of the brakes except for the E-brake. I realized that one of my cables is not releasing. I will need to try and find a replacement.
