Since then I've swapped the top off my NA, swapped the shocks/springs and RB sway bar from my NA, swapped over my M-tuned bbk. I also painted the lower part of the dash and the carpet. I'm waiting on black door panels to come in the mail.

The body still needs a really good detail. I need to find some NB seats. I still need to order a front GV lip and I'm getting a rear MSM lip from a friend of mine. I also want to tint the windows and rear tail lights. I also need to swap in my roll bar.

Once all that is done I will move onto the power dept. :brain: is going to mod my MS to MSII for the NB, then I'll start collecting go fast parts.

I like this car alot. The headlights look pimp in the daylight

thesnowboarder 08-31-2010 11:39 AM

Woah, never seen anyone paint the interior bits of a car while its still in the car. The black already looks better. Were all excited to see what this turns into. Good luck keep up the good work Phil!

RotorNutFD3S 08-31-2010 11:46 AM

Looking good! First thing I did on my NB was swap the interior out for black too, I hated the tan. Headlights look good too, I've been wanting to do that to mine.

Thanks man, there's not much more I can do right now. I need to strip the NA and ship parts. Once that is done I should be ready to boost it.

Yeah, If I were to pull it all out I would have just swapped in an already black interior and I didn't feel like doing all that. It worked out in the end.

Do it, it took maybe an hour. If you already have paint then it's like a free mod. lol.

Any special tricks to getting these headlights apart or just the normal oven deal? Definitely have plenty of paint, think I even have some made for painting plastic so it doesn't flake off. I need to polish the lenses too, mine are starting to fog over.

buffon01 08-31-2010 11:53 AM

LS1 swap?

18psi 08-31-2010 11:54 AM

In on page1 of what is certainly going to be a badass build.

Instructions from 18psi.

remove basically everything that's removeable from the headlight. Unscrew all screws. Preheat oven to 220 degrees. Use a cookie tray or something flat and big enough to hold headlight. Cover that in tin foil so you don't mess up the tray or make it smell like headlights after. pop it in there (do 1 at a time) for about 10 minutes. anywhere around that time the glue gets soggy. underdo it and you'll have to rip the 2 parts apart which is bad and can damage them. overdo and you might start melting the clear part. its a balancing act.

when you take it out, WEAR GLOVES. soft leather or vinyl ones will work. pry apart. you MAY need to use a flathead to "help" pry them apart. be very careful cause metal can seriously mess up the plastic, so don't just have at it. be very patient, HOWEVER if you take more than about 30 seconds to pry apart it will start hardening back up and make it a nightmare. if that happens, pop it in for another 2-5 minutes and get it back up to temp.

I had to put them in for 12 minutes in order to separate them. Every oven is different so the time may vary. Just start with 10.

mist coat when your painting them. thats all they need and make sure you wipe them down good with alcohol before you paint.

turotufas 08-31-2010 01:25 PM

Kinda makes me want to swap all my stuff to a NB.

How's that stuff hold up. I have been wanting to do it to my trucks carpet for a while now. The truck gets alot of abuse and i wonder how well the black would stay without wearing out.

Believe it or not, Ive polished them at least half a dozen times. It always came back after a few months, and recently I just gave up (on the headlighrs and the car in general)

Eventually, for now I'm thinking about slapping on a 2560 with my meth injection and running it at the motors limit. If/when it goes I'll build it.

Why are you going with a smaller turbo on a 1.8 then you did with the 1.6?

I'm guessing it's because a 2560 spools very well (I get full 12psi by 3,800ish starting at 2k) and can EASILY reach the engine's limits.

levnubhin 09-02-2010 11:17 PM

Motor will be stock and a 2560 can provide all the power the motor can handle and spool quicker than the 2871. When I build the motor I will probably move up to a 30xx.

Dude on partial throttle, when I say partial I mean anything close to 1/2 slips the clutch, and this fucker spool rather quick and hits hard :D. Well you know.

I get that at 4 ish on a big ass 3076 .86.

however I do agree that for stock motor a 2560 would make for a decent streetable turbo with lots of delicious midrange for low speed commuting.

Maybe is my noobness to the subject and the fact that this is the first turbo car I have ever driver more than 20 seconds (Porsche 911) but I love the fucking 2870. LOVE IT :makeout:

Trust me, I loved mine as well. But remember now, we are talking about using stock motors. And with a 2560 I can make just as much power as you can (maybe more 99 motor > 94-97) and have better spool.

Cleaned the headlights, right? and the 6uls that does give it a different look.

levnubhin 09-03-2010 10:35 AM

Cleaned the head lights, painted insides black, put the 6UL's and GV lip on. Car still needs a good bath.

I'm not sure how I feel about the lip, I think with an 01+ front bumper and lights it will look better.

Im partial to the 99-00 bumper, it looks more like a classic sports car, and more like a miata.
The 01+ lights do look better though.

I think when you put 01 lights in the 99 bumper they fir pretty well, theres just a little gap around the bottom.

miataspeed2005 09-03-2010 10:57 AM

+100 I don't like how it looks now

18psi 09-03-2010 11:23 AM

I like the 01-05 front because the bumper isn't all rounded and goofy like all the other miata's, but more straight and stern.

shlammed 09-03-2010 11:29 AM

too much stripes.

^^ I agree. It adds character but don't care much for the stripes. IMO it would look better without the stripes.

Doppelgänger 09-03-2010 04:23 PM

needs small side skirts to go with the lip. Other than that its pretty damn nice sir!
It reminds me of a local car here that is also Sunlight silver with black racing stripes.

viperormiata 09-03-2010 05:54 PM

I actually like it. I really thought it was going to look slightly off, but I was wrong. I dig it, probably the only 99/00 front end i've ever liked.

Stripes are for MEN ;) Wear them with pride.

NA6C-Guy 09-03-2010 06:28 PM

Now that is a major transformation! Looks great man, congrats and good job. The headlights look killer, as does the paint and stripes with the 6UL's and that GV lip. Overall it's pure sex.

18psi 09-03-2010 06:35 PM

The transformation is quite pleasing to the eye.

The car is growing a ballsack:D
