Update:
Made some changes lately.
I had a 4:30 open differential in the car. Made for a challenge to get a good launch, even when leaving in 2nd gear, which I always did. The times I attempted to leave in first gear traction was worse at the track, so best times were achieved by starting in 2nd. However I recently noticed one of my axle seals was starting to leak so I thought I would experiment with gearing change and welding the rear too. I picked up anther open diff off ebay but in 4;10 ratio and made some steel plates to lock gears when welded in.

The pic below shows the plates before welding.

In addition to welding the diff I also added more positive camber. my resting camber is now approximately 1.5 to 1.75 degrees positive.

I went to the track tonight for some test and tune with these changes. After a couple passes I felt I could start in first gear and actually hook fairly well.
These changes and starting in first gear with a decent hook netted the time below.

The time above is still no nitrous. I now believe if I plate and weld the 4:30 gears this junk has some 6.50s in it if it hooks in first and holds together. I wonder if a 50 shot will net some 6.20s-6.30s with the 4:30 gear? Might have to find out soon...

Question:
Anyone on here ever hear of snake eater performance or try any of their injectors? I am making some changes this year for more power as I think Im going to shoot for 6.20s in the 1/8th this year. I will need some more fueling and am eyeing their 1500cc injectors. I just sent them an email for some info, but their prices are really, really cheap. They are likely re-worked china knock offs however I did some quick research and found some fairly big power ls guys have tested them with very good results. If they respond to email and ship reasonably fast I am going to pull the trigger on them I think. I have a friend with injector tester so I will flow test them before I run them. I will keep yall informed on how they do.

I'm sure in your research you've come across the Sloppy Mechanics guy. He's used them extensively with no issues on the aforementioned turdbo LS stuff.

Got in the Snake eater 1500cc injectors. This should give me enough fueling to jack up my boost pressure to 40++ psi from my current 33-34psi. Will have these installed soon for testing.
I also ordered a sce cut ring head gasket, but may save that for my next engine later this year that will be half filled as well.

Just got in this ching chong 45psi boost gauge to replace the 35psi gauge I'm using currently. The plan is to bury the needle on that sucker shortly...

1/8 Mile to 1/4 Mile

No 1/4 mile tracks within a reasonable driving range for me. It's very easily mid 10s as it sits. With a 6.64 second et 1/8th mile time, most 1/8th to 1/4 mile calculators put it between 10.40 to 10.50 et in the 1/4..

I did have the dragy running on several of my 1/8th mile passes and got some 1/4 mile data. So letting off the gas shortly after the 1/8th mile timer and coasting the remainder of the distance of a 1/4 mile, the dragy recorded an 11.51 et at 75.67 mph 1/4 mile (remember coasting down so low trap speed). that particular pass was a 6.86 et at around 107 mph 1/8th mile.

My goal for the year is to dip into the lower 6.30s or better. That should give it a high 9 second 1/4 mile potential according to calculators.
I just installed larger injectors and am tuning on those currently. Once I get them dialed in I am cranking in even more boost. We will see how it goes. I also have nitrous on the car, but have never used at the track so far. Might try a 35hp or 50hp shot this year at some point if extra boost doesn't get me to my goal. the nitrous certainly will (i have a kit jet-able up to 150 extra hp). I would really rather achieve it with just boost and not use the nitrous.

Thats crazy doing a 11.5 coasting. I bet i'll struggle to get into the 12s . Keep up the good work man. Subbed.

Quick update on the sep injectors:

Got these installed and am still tuning on them, but getting closer. I haven't messed with the miata over the last couple weeks as I've been doing some work on both a 1965 and 1966 mustang that sat up for a while and took a bit to get them back up and running. Finished them and back to tinkering on the miata as spare time allows. I have the sep injectors tuned somewhat and have tested to the lower 30's psi. Still a little rich up top but not too far off. A couple quick test pulls with dragy are showing results close to what it was before at this boost level. When I get fueling a little closer it should be the same performance as before at same boost level. The difference will be much more headroom to go up in boost now (new goal is 40-45 psi) whereas before I was basically maxed out. These injectors seem to work as advertised, especially well for a budget injector. Likely not the same quality as the more expensive branded injectors but good enough for me. If anyone else out there tinkering with low budget projects who doesn't mind experimenting with off brands I would recommend the sep's in a heartbeat now, but always remember off brands are use at your own risk!

Also got in the sce cut ring hg, but saving that for the next engine Im building, unless my current felpro hg gives up the ghost prior.

Nice to hear!

How are these at idling/low load/cruise? That's where quality really comes to play

Low load/cruise is fine. Idle is ok, not great. I am still working on it a bit but if its the best I can get it now its good enough for me.. Car is becoming more race and less street every time I touch it LOL... These injectors are likely a little too large on such a small bore engine for a great idle at very low engine speeds, say below 980 rpm when engine at its hottest and no load. I suspect under those conditions the pulse width is below the threshold where flow is linear. I am gunning for very high boost levels on e85 and need the fuel flow of these large injectors. Sep offers smaller injectors as well which I think would likely be more applicable to what most people on here would use. However for anyone looking to run 40+ psi on e85 these sep 1500's are so far looing like a viable low budget option. If anyone is interested I can scan the data sheet to look at as well.

Update: I have some more experience now with these sep 1500s. We have had a couple hot days in our area now (over 90 degrees f.) and have gotten some more real world experience with these injectors on hot days. It looks like the pulse width for idle is getting below the point where the fuel flow through the injectors is linear and predictable for a smooth idle on really hot days. It will only get worse as summer approaches. We sometimes have days over 100f during the summer. I could get these injectors to idle acceptably (for me at least) on 60-70f days by idling rich, however when testing on these days that were over 90f I had to make even richer as well as lowering base pressure even further. I still think these are good injectors for the money but maybe a little too large on a street driving with our small bore engines. These injectors free flow on average 1631cc at 43psi base pressure according to the data sheet. I am re-thinking running these and possibly going back to my old injectors with supplementary injectors for big boost.

Hello Fellows. Quick update... About 5 or 6 weeks ago I started experiencing an electrical gremlin which made me want to push this junk off a cliff. I was starting to get missfires which also presented as rpm spikes when i took logs. It first started to show itself after about 6500 rpm or so and eventually degraded to start happening below 5000 rpm. After checking grounds and connectors I threw a crank sensor at it, followed by cam sensor, then coils (I had extra coils anyways). You can imagine the frustration setting in by then LOL... After all that I figured well snap, I quess my ecu or fic was starting to go out. I was eyeing the speedyefi for a while previously so I figured I would give it a try. So I ordered their fishdog (ua4c based ecu) which contains a 400kpa map sensor with 2 ft harness for $300. They threw in a gm air temp sensor and 99 alternator board to boot!. Cant beat the price anyways. Wired the speedyefi in to my cobbled factory harness and did a fair amount of start up and low end drivability tuning so I could test drive it. Wouldn't you know it the problem persisted! Now I was really pissed... After all that I started to consider maybe an injector shorting out or an issue with wiring harness. I temporarily ran a heavy power wire on positive injector sides, which seemed to help. So I picked up another engine and injector harness. I opened up harnesses and completely rewired using only necessary wires. Well That appeared to fix the issue. Mostly.. LOL... Turns out the speedyefi is not very tolerant to electrical noise. So I once again rewired but this time using shielded wire from the crank and cam signals. That, and filtering in tunerstudio fixed the issue. I plan on going into the harness again to rewire the crank and cam 12v wires with sheilded wire as well to hopefully reduce the needed filtering in TS.

After getting it to run cleanly with a half way decent trigger I was finally able to get this junk back out and working on the tune so I could really start pushing it again. As best I can tell I now have it back to where it was before all this started. I have pushed it to spike at 36psi and settling to 34-35 psi so far, which is about as far as I generally took it before. I've been doing some street testing and tuning with the dragy and FINALLY have this junk running numbers I would expect to see. The hope is to get to the drag strip this weekend to confirm it will once again run the numbers it did last year. The initial Dragy data from street testing indicates it will. After I get the initial back up data from the track the plan is to push it harder and maybe start throwing a small nitrous shot at it next go around if all goes well this first trip to the track. I really want this junk to dip below 6.50s this year one way or another....

Been doing a lot of street testing with the dragy to dial in my tune with the speedy efi. I generally test from 40-80mph with times recorded for 40-60, 50-70, and 60-80. That gives me good, repeatable data for tuning. The dragy is a great tuning tool for the price. Doing all this testing wore out my nitto 555r drag radials I run on the street. Overall I've been pleased with them so I just ordered a pair of nitto 555 r2's in 245/50/16. The r2's are supposedly better than the originals insofar as traction goes. I guess we will see.

One observation on the speedy efi universal fishdog version in case others out there are using this ecu. On mine there is some spark latency. I dont know if guys running the plug and play versions experience this, but definitely a thing on the universal version. The speedyefi doesnt have any place in tunerstudio as of yet to correct for this as does megasquirt. Not really a big deal since you can correct for it in the spark map. However there is some risk as the number in the map will show progressively high spark values than actual so you have to be very careful in dialing it in. Again, may not be an issue on the pnp stuff.
Other than that been satisfied with this ecu. Although it is crude you can't beat the price. Car is running very well. I'm really anxious to slap on the hoosiers and get this thing back to the track, but between track getting resurfaced, rain and life getting in the way I haven't had the chance yet. Will asap though. Dragy data indicates I should get times at least as good as prior but cant say for sure until its proven at the track.

Hey man,
I should buy a Dragy, too. What's your time from 40-80mph? I logged a 3,7s with my girl next to me, but I estimate yours to be in the 2,X second range. That must be a HUGE hit from behind, when you get on it

You will like the dragy if you decide to get one. I have certainly put mine to work lately. Would be very interested to see how close the dragy and log data match.

I record the 40-60, 50-70 and 60-80mph metrics. adding my 40-60 and 60-80 data gives me 2.39 seconds for 40-80mph on one of my better saved data. That is no nitrous.

Thank you, that's just crazy fast and impressive it can put the power down from a 40mph roll

Not really that fast, but it does ok for what it is.

However what little performance it has took many, many hours of testing, tuning and making many small changes over time. Then testing each small change again. I only spent time and effort on things that would offer a gain in performance for my intended use, and mostly used modified stock or budget parts. It does have some name brand quality parts, but only where I had to or was not confident I could cheap out. I never spent any time or money on bling. I like the sneaky sleeper factor.

Hello fellows. I finally got out to the track tonight for a little test and tune after swapping ecu to speedyefi. I had a buddy come along and took him on these runs as a passenger. He is very close to 200lbs. It was also very hot. these two concerns held the performance back a bit. maybe a couple tenths and a couple mph trap speed. Even factoring the added weight and heat the trap speed is still down slightly so I do think a little more fine tuning is needed to equal the performance of the previous ecu setup. Its close but not quite there. Im a little too rich up top, especially in the heat. Car was laboring a bit at top end. A little more fine tuning and trap will be similar to previous best. Overall I am satisfied, not thrilled, but satisfied with first trip to track all things considered. With some minor tuning next trip should be equal or better to prior best, especially if I'm solo and slightly cooler conditions.

Please disregard reaction times. I was there to test new ecu setup, not focus on reaction.

Snake eater performance has recently added to their product line. They are now offering fuel pumps. I am currently using a walbro 525. It has served me will but it is a couple years old now. I am considering getting sep's new in tank pump in the future. It looks to outlfow the 525 at very high fuel pressures.
If anyone on here is considering a fuel pump and running high boost on e85 this may be a pump to look at..
