Boost leak, I'm betting. Check all vac hoses on both ends. Clamp or zip-tie them.

Sirnixalot 02-18-2016 11:19 AM

I did a BLT and got a few small leaks sorted but the main culprit.....the actuator spring is just weak. I set the boost cut to 10psi and disconnected the vacuum hose from the actuator and....

We have boost!

I'm going to get another actuator later on today and hope that solves it.

Side note, this car is a fucking animal now :giggle::party:

Looks fast :D

Noticed you're on an island, How's island life??? I contemplated a 'what if I lived on a island' at one point.

I grew up mostly on the TX gulf coast in a beach town :bigtu:

Yep....75 square miles of flat. It's pretty good and laid back most of the time. My main gripe is our gas prices jump as soon as yours do but they don't fall at the same time (understand a few weeks lag due to shipping in the stuff) but we are still at around US$5.20 a gallon for 93oct :jerkit:

I think the only other place I could live in the world is the bell end of florida (or the Philippines since that's where my wife is from) :giggle: Gotta be close to the water and warm, I don't handle cold weather very well

Girz0r 02-18-2016 11:43 AM

 You sound like me.

I tried virginia for 1.5 yrs and hated it. This is snow? Snow sucks... Went back to TX :D

What's the industry like down there? Any Tech or IT? A quick look at Wiki says BOATS. I never adapted my father's excellent welding skills. He has now made 4 full aluminum boats for fishing. He calls the fiberglass molded ones "Glitter Boats" lol

Banking, Corporate law and IT are the main fields that expats (most locals just don't have the qualifications and experience) go for if you're here to make money, there are also the younger (19-25) crowd that come here, learn to dive and just never go back. They don't make much as a diving instructor or water sports/tour guide but if you have 0 responsibilities every day is a work vacation.

For you to get a bank account here Uncle Sam is going to want a metric fuck ton of paper work since we are a tax haven

The glitter boats would do well in the sound and inside the reef, we get some deep water relatively close to shore but that's sea sickness territory so I keep my ass inside the reef :giggle: I do not share my grandfather's sea legs one bit

Shimmed the actuator a total of 1/4" & connected up the ECU based boost control. My lap top died before I could even start tuning it but so far it's definitely working.

I have the boost cut set to 70kpa and the target boost level at 65kpa. I need to drop the duty cycle a few percent as I have managed to hit boost cut a few times. It really doesn't need more than that for autocross on sunday.

AFR's taper from 12.7 down to 11.3 from the onset of boost till redline. Timing ends up at 11*. It needs some general smoothing for the transition from the idle and cruise areas and some "cold" start/idle work (no idle air motor) for the tune to be complete.

Ignore the AFR curve. I am having an issue with what the wide band says and what the haltech logs.

today's mission: launch control

stock wiring between the clutch switch and the haltech was grounding out. Ran 2 brand new wires from clutch switch to haltech and ground and I now has launch control :likecat:

Tomorrow we autocross :dealwithit:

In other news, I spun a rod bearing. I

Sirnixalot 02-22-2016 11:46 AM

7And this just took a turn for AllOfIt

BP6D and a 6 speed coming from japan. Should be here in 3 months.

Stock bore CP pistons, K1 rods, King XP bearings, ARP head studs and a Cometic head gasket are being ordered also.

Reason for keeping the stock bore is that localy its like $400 to bore and hone a block

Girz0r 02-22-2016 11:56 AM

That looks fun :likecat:

Sucks to hear your bearing say f-it.

Which one was it? #4?

Sirnixalot 02-23-2016 09:50 AM

I haven't pulled the motor apart yet so I'm not sure which one.

Wonder if there would be anyone with a 1.6 that wants the later style head with the solid lifters.

psyber_0ptix 02-23-2016 09:58 AM

This looks fun. Kindof janky, but totally fun.

mmmjesse 02-23-2016 10:02 AM

Hell, i would love to have a late model 1.6 head to dick around with. Dont think i would want to pay that shipping from the islands though.

leboeuf 02-23-2016 10:23 AM

Bummer man! We(I) need the full story. What happened?

Sirnixalot 02-23-2016 11:03 AM

It's my fault of course. I knew the turbo was leakin/burning some oil through the turbine seal and I neglected to check oil levels between runs.

The course was laid out so it was faster to just leave the car in 1st gear. So I was between 6000 and 7500 for the entire course. Add that up with the chicanes and that's what happened.

The EDF died so I couldn't soften up the damping so as you can see it was stuck in maddriftz mode :( I might just get the manual adjustment hard ware for the teins.

As soon as I pull the motor I'm having the bay and interior resprayed to clean up the appearance a bit.

Sirnixalot 02-25-2016 07:37 PM

Well I missed the motor auction in japan so I decided to look on ebay and scored one for $1k shipped to my freight forwarder.

That being said, new manifold materials and turbo rebuild kit are coming with the motor.

Hopefully the 5 speed stays together until the 6 speed arrives:dealwithit:

Sirnixalot 04-02-2016 09:59 PM

6 weeks later. Picked up the motor and stuff today. Looks fairly clean and it was off an automatic which is nice.

I also got the adjustment hardware for the Tein's so I can bin the edfc.

Internals should be here next week so I'll be tearing into the motor next weekend to rebuild. Can't wait to get the car running again.

Impulse buy of the month...Maxxis VR-1 245/40R15 tires. I'm trying to get my current wheel and tire setup sold to get some 949 15x10 wheels.

I finally ran power to the other side of the shed, installed a 5k btu ac unit and picked up a cheap blue tooth sound tower.

Most of the rest of the day was boring cleaning up but I did manage to strip down the new to me VVT motor

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1459992068
Not sure why the outer cylinders were wet

bhttps://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1459992068
Bores wiped down

internals should be here for the weekend so hopefully saturday I'll be assembling the motor
