You filled the bowl in one run? That's impressive, like one boost pull or just a drive around?

 

Just a drive around, maybe 7 or 8 miles. It definitely trapped the oil, until the filter got submerged.

 

Post up how it plumbed.

 

The exhaust side just has a mini air filter.

That's not right at all, but the pictures look fine. Was it using oil before, like a quart every thousand or fewer?

I can't remember exactly how the springs go, but the little short one is supposed to hold the valve closed near idle. I think it goes on the little end of the plunger, then the big spring goes over it and the plunger. That got back in there, right?

I'm thinking if you were idling for a while and the valve is flowing in idle range when it shouldn't it would fill fast, and probably idle pretty uneasy too.

I have been reading your posts on the subject, hence the "suck at blowing" crack.
I do burn some oil, maybe a quart every 1500 to 2k. I think I must have put the valve back together wrong. Also bought a crapa one instead of a vautozone variety. Same crapa at napa, still has the 709 or 60L stamped on the sealing face.
And you're right, I do know I want an FM one but I am determined to make this work.
I am going to try again with an oh wriley one.
Didn't see the need for a check valve since the pcv valve seals against boost very well after grinding the letters off.

 

I thought the drain was supposed to be sealed. I sealed the drain with a 1/4-20 nut and bolt through a grommet.

That check valve takes more pressure to open than a good pcv valve.

 

My MK Turbo makes good power on my tired *** stock motor and it is pretty fast.

Gave the deezums catch can another try. The oh wriley pcv valve has another part, the washer, still had the he same 708 in the sealing face. Ground it smooth and it seals like a boss.
I will see how it goes this time.

Success! I drove 20 miles and the thing didn't have any oil in it yet, maybe I can check it at more normal intervals now. Will post a pic stating how many miles have elapsed when there is some noticeable oil in there.

 

Catch can seems to be working, about 200 miles and the top of the bolt is almost covered.

just caught up on this thread. really cool to see this thing just chugging along and performing excellent for what it is.

quick note on the sti: the newer ones don't really run low 13's unless you drive them really hard, and reaction times usually don't matter in bracket racing. Your 99mph trap speed is about on par with what they trap, so your outcome is not unexpected.

14 at 99 is real solid, congrats. with a better '60 you'll be well in the 13's

 

Thanks Vlad! I took it pretty easy on the 1/4 mile and just engaged 1st gently then stomped. They want me to have a helmet and fire jacket for anything faster than 13.99 so if I had been any faster they would have made me quit. I plan on getting them before Wednesday night drags start again in March.
