I hate paint.

I hate paint but have been doing a lot of taping and painting recently. Here's a much needed update on the car's status. Sorry for the iPhone photos, didn't have the good camera and memory card with me at the time.

First I painted the cage, then taped it off and sprayed the interior.

Next step was to start assembling the suspension. Started out with pressing out the old bushings, then painted the control arms orange and subframe black, installed zerk fittings on all bushings for easy maintenance, installed the bushings and finally installed the rear control arms and uprights on car along with 1.8 brake calipers, M-Tuned rear brake brackets, and sport rotors. Front control arms and brakes will have to wait for the front subframe which is on its way from V8 Roadsters.

Next step for the interior was to mount the Racepak IQ3. The Racepak IQ3 will be used along with two of Racepak's Universal Sensor Modules (USM) to monitor parameters of the vehicle in addition to using the datalogging with GPS to improve lap times. Because there is no dashboard anymore, I decided to make a slick little mount to mount the digital dash/datalogger to the steering column. Drew up a quick mount in Solidworks and called up a buddy to go cut it out on a plasmacam.

I'm gonna ask this now since it's fairly related and saves me making a new thread. I'd like to bolt my own seat to the floor to save the weight, height, and safety of the stock sliders I'm using now.

How the hell do you bolt your 5th and 6th point to the floor? I hardly have room for the eye bolts currently.

crashnscar 04-04-2011 08:39 PM

The eye bolts are definitely sandwiched between the seat bottom and the floor. 2 holes in the floor and backing plates for the substrap mounts. Definitely not much room there.

Is the rear stock seat mounting point cut out of the chassis?

Also, do you guys use the stock fuel tank in this or Savington's car?

This is amazing.

Yep, rear seat mounts are no longer there and this bracket bolts directly through the floor with a backing plate on the underside so it cannot pull through the thin sheet metal.

Stock fuel tank in BOTH this and Savington's car. At least for now. No reason to do a larger tank because you can get through a 30minute session with the stock tank and a lot of enduro races only allow you to add 10 gallons per stop with 5 gallon cans; again no reason for a larger tank.

Front subframe from V8Roadsters came in which allowed me to assemble more of the car.

Unfortunately it's not complete yet. We've been too busy with customer cars so this only get worked on when we aren't prepping another car for a track event or doing a customer build.

The flexplate/clutch/bellhousing/hydraulic throwout bearing are giving me issues but once that is figured out the motor/trans will be dropped in.

orion4096 08-08-2011 03:42 PM

I'm not familiar with sequential transmissions, but does it use the same clutch assembly as the t56?

I have the ls7 clutch on mine and it's really heavy and overkill for a mostly stock ls6. Probably better for drag racing. I might swap to an aluminum Fidanza FW and was wondering what this car is going to get.
