I would pull the oil line and check for blockage. Take some pics of the oil line. And where its drilled.

This. The oil drain is massive. So I don't think it is kinked or clogged. It just seems to huge to cause any issue.

Paging Savington.

Your email said coldside. Oil in the coldside doesn't come from the turbo. Is the hotside wet?

aidandj 12-25-2016 04:19 PM

Lolol. If thats on the cold side then someone poured some oil in your intake piping as a joke.

Ryan_G 12-25-2016 04:26 PM

The oil gathers on my coldside as well. He clearly stated he only removed one coupler. There is likely oil all throughout his intake piping. I am having this exact same issue. I was hoping the bigger oil drain would solve it but I have not tested it yet on my setup.

Ok. Let me clarify. The intercooler piping coming off the turbo into the intercooler is dry. The intercooler piping coming out of the intercooler going into the throttle body is soaking wet.

What about your throttle body?

Are you sure that the hotside piping and throttle body are actually dry and they don't have a thin film of oil on them? The oil has to be coming from somewhere.

Unless your intercooler was previously filled with oil.

icantlearn 12-25-2016 04:44 PM

in the coupler that connects to the throttle body there was little oil. but none in the trottle body itself

This was in the throttle body tho.

icantlearn 12-25-2016 04:53 PM

Actually, there is oil in the throttle body. I just had to take it off to see it.

I have a feeling all of this oil was from before I installed the catch can. Thats the only thing that makes sense to me.

aidandj 12-25-2016 05:24 PM

Whats the inside of the intake look like? That looks gnarly lol.

New intercooler? Or used?

Did you cut any aluminum pipes?

18psi 12-25-2016 05:27 PM

often times intercoolers have that alum dust in them. gotta flush em thoroughly before installing
*edit: and you bought that ebay intercooler used too. did you clean it out?

the intake is clean and dry. My filter is disgusting. I have a new one on the way.

The intercooler is used.

No pipes cut.

aidandj 12-25-2016 05:31 PM

How much blowby do you have? Thats a sweet amount of oil lol.

I would flush everything with mineral spirits and reinstall. And see if you get more oil.

No. didnt think to clean it out. Whats the best way to go about doing that. Ill do it now

Edit: I assume flush everything with mineral spirits.

aidandj 12-25-2016 05:32 PM

Lol. Somebody could have sent a compressor wheel through that thing.

Flush it with mineral spirits.

icantlearn 12-25-2016 05:34 PM

ok. Ill clean everything up, reinstall, and report back with how much oil is in there. Thanks guys. Merry Christmas!

This is how I ghetto rigged the catch can (temporary spot). I think I set it up wrong. Its just connected to the PCV valve and is VTA. Probably gonna get flamed. hehe :giggle:

I still need to swap out my stock pads and rotors for a new set. The pads are glazed over from the track and my rotors are slightly warped. I am going to be doing that this weekend if it doesn't rain.

I'm not sure if it's related but you might also want to address your crankcase ventilation setup. Ideally you want the crankcase and valve cover both vented with large ports to avoid oil blowing through. It's more complicated to set it up 'green' with it being routed back into the intake but either way I think it's worth looking into.
