Congrats on the new addition!
Congrats on getting your car running on a DSM ECU! I've been thinking about/wondering how big a PITA this would be since I decided a few months ago I needed a Miata instead of a Talon lol. I even contacted Tom Dorris over at ECMLink to get some input from him. Kick ***, and I don't know how I missed your post from a month ago outlining all this. I may be knocking on your door for some advice in the future...
I am running a 1G DSM 4G63 Turbo ECU. Some folks will be able to spot the DSM bits in the engine photo in my last post. The most obvious is the throttle body and elbow, you can also see the injector resistor box on the passenger firewall. The cam angle sensor is the stock Miata unit, the power transistor is from a 1G DSM (almost identical to the stock Miata unit) and the coil packs are DSM units swapped into the Miata bracket. I'm using the factory DSM knock sensor screwed into the empty intake bracket hole in the block. I literally had all of this stuff in an old bin from a swap I planned on doing, but never did. So many of the Miata components were similar, I couldn't resist. I got the idea from the guys that running the DSM ECU on the KA24 240s.
The car runs perfect, and the DSM ECU doesn't seem to know/care what name is on the valve cover!

Very beautiful work you did on that Downpipe. I have been following your set up and copying it, but here is where I am stock. My welding skills are not as good as yours
By any chance, did you happend to write down the bent angles and maesurements of your master piece? I got a 5ft pipe I was thinking about bending to match your work and v-band both ends.
By the way what is your spool data? ...so I have an Idea what to expect

Thanks man! On the downpipe, I'm afraid I don't have any of that info. I used an old section of exhaust pipe that I had in my garage. If starting from scratch, my advice would be to order a 90 and a 45 degree mandrel bend and ask a buddy who can cut/weld pipe to help fab it up for you.
As for spool data, I haven't setup my datalogger to capture that as of yet. However, Brainiack has posted very detailed spool and dyno data on this same turbo. I will say that the performance has impressed me. It's a good sized turbo for a responsive 200-250hp setup.

Hello All,
Long time no update! I've just been enjoying the heck out of the car, even in the crazy heat we've been having here. The ebay turbo setup is still holding up great and the car is too much fun to drive. I've been planning a suspension upgrade and coincidentally a local Miata club member posted a set of fresh AGX/Eibachs for a great price, so I picked them up.
Installation was a snap and I'm very happy with the results. I've had AGXs on other cars I've owned and have always liked them. After driving around a bit, the stock struts on my car were completely wore out. Now I need some snazzy wheels to go with my new stance. I'm going to miss being able to go 4x4'ing!
The setup only had 1500 miles on them.
The job took me about three hours, and I was able to sneak in an oil change too.

I've enjoyed reading about your builds. I actually sold my Dodge Colt GT a few months ago and just picked up a stock '93 NA. I was contemplating the use of DSM parts as you did because all of us DSMers have loads of spare parts, but I went with the MSPNP instead. I'm planning on using a Mitsu turbo for my build...as soon as I find a decent 14b or 16g for a good price.
Anyways, I noticed that you haven't done a coolant re-route. How are your coolant temps at your boost level? It seems most turbo Miata owners will say it's absolutely necessary, but how is the stock coolant routing working out for you? Also, I've thought about doing a 4g63 swap into a mighty max or another rwd application in the past and it appears that those who have done it before are looking to do just the opposite...route the coolant to the front of the block like a factory Miata. Have they just not thought it through, or is there something different about the 4g63 that would make routing the coolant out of the front efficient/acceptable?

highpsi: Going with MSPNP was a good decision. Using the DSM engine management is working great for me, but it ain't the path of least resistance. Also, I would recommend against the Mitsu turbos. I know they are cheap and readily available, but going with a cast T3 manifold (like the one I have) gives you ultimate flexibility in turbo choice, among other benefits.
I don't have a coolant re-route and haven't seen the need for one in my driving situations. It gets hot here in TN and I still have all of the A/C stuff and I've never seen the needle go past the less than halfway point. I'll likely get one in the future and am sure I would need one for an open track day event - it's a proven weak point of this engine.
As for the 4G63 re-route, that's simply done in RWD applications to eliminate the water neck, which interferes with the firewall.
