Wildfire's build
Ok so I figured I post this over here.
Jan 15::
ok so I guess I will finally get around to start this. Been storing parts for about a year now...
So the little 1.6 in my car is finally starting to die so I am swaping to a 1.8.
Block:
99-00 short block (Thanks to Ben for hooking me up back when he was at MazMart
94-97 head (Thanks to Stephen)
a box of parts
So I still missing a few parts and plan to grab them in the next few weeks. I am planning for a swap either over the weekend of the 31st or 7th.
oh yea.
Jan 17
So i went to the pull a part today and grabed a valve cover off a ford and the little oil filter bolt, since my block didnt' have one.
here is the valve cover all dirty.
I have already cleaned, and started to prep it for the car. It is sitting in the garage right now with the second coat of paint. I also got the intake manifold all painted also.
As for the turbo. While working on it, I figured I would get the specs. So with some quick goggling and some help from Braineak. Got to love how MT.net comes up in goggle search.
The turbo is originally for a Pontiac Sunbird
55 tirm,
30 lb/min
specs out for a 250-270 turbo but some quick reading show that the exhaust housing is the weak point and I should be able to max out at 200-220 on this turbo. Not back for a small turbo that will spool by just looking at it.
Still have a list of little parts to find, but I got 99% if the big parts. Oh the gasket kit is ordered and on it way. Should be here by the end of new week or start of next week.
Jan 20
so I have some photos of the valve cover at 80% done
I still need to clean up the silver areas better. With the chrome VC bolts it should be just enough bling for my taste.
ah two steps forward and well two steps backwards.
I got the FM adapter mounted up today. That took a few quick trips to my favorite auto parts store..Home Depot
Did a quick mock up of what I have here:
Starting to look sexy I also picked up a piece of 26ga metal to make some kinda heat shield.
Then noticed a nice little issue
The only good new is that I was already planing on picking up a small box of nuts and washer to use for bolting the Intake and exhaust manifold already, so now I just need to either find 4 longer studs or just pick up 4 bolts.
Slowly she is coming together,

OK so new update for today.
So with a little push from Eric I jump on a (Kinda) BINB 38mm Tial wastegate for $5 more then my turbo
There is only two issues with it and why I used kinda. One the brass fittings were in the box.. So I have to go out and replace them and two the old owner couldn't read lol, and its a .7 bar spring not a 7 pound spring.
All in all for the stupid price I got the thing for, i can't complain.

So with the help of Ben91 I got the car running. it is still massively ghetto but its running.
the car still has a lot of work. I need to go pick up an old greddy intercooler kit. That will be the start of my intercooler kit. The biggest issue with the car is that motor is stupid lean or stupid rich. Right now I have it running stupid rich cause when it was lean, it was so lean it was stalling. Thanks to Ben for figuring out the issues and the solution.
I need to start building my megasquirts and get larger injectors. Right now when just running the open downpipe, I was hitting 5psi in 2nd gear at around 2K. The stock ecu couldn't handle it. The turbo has some crazy spool. The best part is the EBC isn't hooked up yet either.

update:
I finally got my tax return and went to DIY today. I don't remember who I talked to, wasn't Jerry I know that, maybe Matt. Either way, they were great. I came in with an x amount of money and worked with me to get me everything I could for that amount.
So I am now the proud owner of a wideband(finally) and an MS-1 v3 that needs to be built. I still need to get some more parts but this is finally a start.

Cheap is the key word for this build. It amazes some of the locals how little money I have in this build. Once I get the megasquirts in and learn everything. I should have a swapped turboed miata for less then the cost of buying a Begi or FM turbo kit. Low budget projects are great, just racked with small problems lol

DUUUUDE, you couldn't clean the engine bay while the motor way out? Looks good otherwise.

So I just hooked up my WB today, now that it finally stopped raining for a few hours.
So for anyone that remember all my issues from this post https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t33162/
I have confirmed what I believed. Now to figure out why. My idle is still all bouncing, either 800 or 1500(it bounces on its own) but at 800rpm my AFR are 22.1 and at 1500rpm I am getting between 18.3-18.9. Mmm wonder if I am running lean lol
