Default WittyWorks DIY build thread

So it's finally time for me to make my build thread. I will be installing/finishing everything over the next few days, planning on being done by Sunday. so, onto the setup.

Chinacharger turbo:
T3/T4 hybrid ebay turbo. same turbo as brain has, only reason i got it was because his seemed to be working well. i got it for $150 brand new because when i ordered they were out of stock and i got a discount. it has a internal wastegate at 8 psi and 2.5 inch v-band exhaust flange. I plan on just doing a full 2.5" straight pipe to the back.

DIY log-style manifold:
I started by trying to copy wayne currs design, but some how that design wasn't going to fit with my turbo, so i modified it into a log manifold. I started tigging it, but some of the metal was really shitty stuff, causing porosity, so i ended up migging the whole thing, not so pretty, but very sturdy. After welding i machined the flange flat on a mill, and spent about three hours with a die grinder smoothing the inside. It is very very smooth inside, should flow well.

Intercooler:
got a cxracing intercooler kit off ebay. i tigged the pipes together where i needed to , and i also made the bov mount and IAT bung and welded up those things. made mounts that use the original PS condenser line bolt holes.

PS depower/mixing manifold:
I wanted the manifold to be a low mount, so that the downpipe and exhaust are much easier to make. The problem with that is the PS and lower radiator hose are in the way, so off with the PS, and i flipped around the mixing manifold so i could route the hoses out of the way.

Need to finish:
I pretty much have everything ready to bolt up, the two main things i need to do are tap the oil pan/set up feed and return and i have to make the whole exhaust, i'm waiting on the v band clamp and some bends from columbia river to do that.

Other things installed:
MSPNP
LC-1 wideband
autometer boost gauge
rc 440 injectors with fiveomotorsports connectors
will install:
siliconeintake.com BOV
artech oil line feed/return

I'm going to use the stock internal wastegate for now, its set at 8 psi. my power goal is around 180 hp.

Things i'll soon need
1. new clutch (mine is fine but i'm guessing it won't handle the power)

I'll post more as i remember more

Curious how my design wasn't fitting with your turbo? I'm making one for that same turbo this weekend hopefully. It looks like your manifold is hanging it in about the exact same spot.

I have 2 build threads in the DIY section on purpose. Non members cant view the build thread section.

Curious about the specs of the turbo? You said it was the same one Brain runs but I was under the impression he was running a straight t3

probably made in the same factory...mine has a straight up 50 trim T3 wheel, it's not a t4 hybrid. housings and whatnot all look identical otherwise.

Yeah, looks just like mine too from what I can see (except mine's a over-sized 57 trim T4 wheel)

I'll try to find the eBay posting of the turbo I bought tomorrow for y'all. As far as the other design not fitting, you will probably need to move the wastegate, I had to make a bracket to move it even with the stubbier manifold I made.

this is the closest to the turbo i got that the same seller is selling.
T3/T4 V-Band Hybrid Turbo/Turbocharger 8psi internal WG : eBay Motors (item 260446253106 end time Feb-08-10 17:27:02 PST)
differences is mine in .48 A/R not .63, and i have a 2.5 inch v band not 2 inch. It also didnt come with all the v band and stuff in the picture.

Today i got the whole cold side stuff installed and cut the plastic tray to fit the pipes. I'll post some more pics of it tomorrow when i get the hot side done also. I just have to get some heat wrap tape for coolant lines and such

more progress today, with pictures!! i got the cold side completely done, got all my hoses and stuff heat wrapped, installed the oil feed line, bolted up the manifold, and drilled the hole for the oil return line. I couldnt find a place that had the correct tap for sale or in stock or open, so that will have to wait until tomorrow. it took three guys at home depot until i found someone that knew what a tap is, then he told me they don't have a 3/8 npt. shiiiit.
