So a couple weeks ago I made my introduction thread, so now it’s time for my build thread.
Its not anything special, but I figured as much as I like reading other build threads
regardless of what was done, I decided to do my own.

So to recap my introduction,
Bought first Miata with forged motor, and a bunch of BNIB parts,
Built Miata,
Friend wrecked Miata,
Bought 2nd Miata,
Striped and sold first Miata,
Stripped 2nd Miata.

And this is where the build starts. It won’t happen overnight as I’m getting married in February,
but I will be working on it and making it my own as quick as I can. Some might not like my paint
scheme, but I couldn’t give a s#!t. I like Green (as you can see through my toolbox) so I am
going to incorporate it throughout and I have seen yall’s option on the color.

Miata starts as a ’96 M Edition.

The lower control arms are getting blasted and powder coated Tein green to match the coilovers.
The car will be painted either Audi Dolphin grey, or Nissan Storm grey. The wheels will be black
15x9 6UL’s wrapped in 225’s. The goal is 300-350 whp all around street, track car with little strip time.

The busted pistons were from a stock motor? Sorry if it's in your intro thread, but I'm too lazy

yellowihss 08-17-2010 01:30 AM

The piston was in the 2nd car which is why I got it so cheap. The forged motor in the first miata was salvageable and will be going into the new car.

Bond 08-17-2010 01:37 AM

Ohh alright, that's what I figured.

I envy your parts list.

Where did you get the upper control arms? They look like Ebay stuff.

Good Build so far:bigtu:

Attachment 194888
Attachment 194889

What color should I paint the engine. The car will be dark grey and the sus. is green. They don't make the tein green in engine paint, and anything that is green on the car has to match the sus. or I'm not doing it. So aside from a different green, what color should I paint it.

hingstonwm 08-27-2010 02:12 PM

Whatever color you paint it, do yourself a favor and put the oil pan on. Also, take the time to tape up any mating surfaces. Looks like you have over spray all the way to the nose on your crank. of course that's just my opinion.

Braineack 08-27-2010 02:17 PM

good luck with those $3 control arms...

yellowihss 08-27-2010 02:39 PM

Is there something i should know? Or is it because they are off ebay.

slutz4 09-07-2010 03:08 PM

If your lowered those rear upper control arms will bottom out on the subframe and will eventually crack as a result.

curly 09-07-2010 07:34 PM

Paint it something light, like white or silver. This helps detect leaks.

Which turbo?

I lifted the front by hand.
The rear is very heavy compared to the front with no drivetrain.
The rear I used a 4x4 on end as it got higher.

OK, now the real work begins.

I am using a hybrid motor mount setup. Delrin on the drivers side, and MS on the passanger side. I wrapped the Delrin motor mount in heat tape to try to prevent the melting some talk about.

The Exhaust is currently being made by Abe at ArTech, as well as the MS3x by Reverant.

The build should go by a little faster now that the motor is in.
Exhaust is about 7 weeks out, so I predict 10-12 weeks to "completion"

where did you get the gauge faces, and how are you going to mess with the speedo needle to calibrate it with the new orientation?

Speedo defaults to zero. You just have to move the stopper and the needle till it lands on zero perfectly.

It barely hits the abs lines.
If I didn't have abs it would fit perfect.
I'll just reroute the brake lines, and all will be good.

Very nice. Basically what I want to do except with Inconel exaust valves. What will you rev it to and what do you think about the whole "VVT intake cam will explode at 7500rpm" hysteria?

yellowihss 06-28-2012 02:19 PM

We'll see if it explodes at 9k

I wanted to inconel ex valves, but I already have 2500 in the head alone. That would bump it over the 3k mark.

Reverant 06-28-2012 02:23 PM

I've personally tuned two high-powered VVT engines. One is at about 350whp, the other is ~460whp. The 460whp was beaten to death during tuning to make sure everything would go smooth once delivered to the owner, as he is some 500 miles away (which is generally considered very much "far away" here in Greece), and it is alive and well up to today.

yellowihss 06-28-2012 02:39 PM

If I'm not mistaken, Fae's is vvt, and he revs the piss out of it.

ZING

soviet 06-28-2012 03:12 PM

Yeah I couldn't find any solid evidence of blown up intake camshafts. Really, I just want to know what kind of damage it causes. Is it "you gonna need a new head" or "you just need a new cam".

Greeks and Faeflora now blowing theirs up is definitely a huge ++++++++. I've seen personally how Fae drives and the Greeks are just in a league of their own :)
