Posting from phone. Will get stuff tonight if it doesn't fire tonight.
-scarred to post MSQ due to general ineptitude with tuning. Trying to learn, but also don't know what to research based on sypmtoms. (brain will have a field day )
-will take log of cranking
-composite log of what in particular?
-I'm 6-sigma positive that my mechanical timing is correct. I've checked that at least half a dozen times.
Appreciate the quick reply.
Also, props for coil tester. didn't know it had it. Will try that and report.
I presume un-plug coils when doing test? Just test triggers?

Welp...
She didn't start. Having a hard time figuring out why.
Everything together and figured she'd start right up with prior known-good tune.
Symptoms are as follows :
-Cranked with CAS unplugged to prime oil
-Plugged CAS back in, cranked for 2-3s then flood-cleared cranked for another 2-3s.
-Cranked again and POW the loudest backfire i've heard. I actually checked the block because it sounded like I ventilated my block at first. Scary loud.
-This happened 2 more times. Thought the neighbors were going to call the police with all these loud gun-shots happening.
Pulled a plug, it smelled of gas, but wasn't wet. FPR shows correct fuel psi, vac-guage shows I have vacuum while cranking (compression), and so I would think that I have spark due to back-fires.
-The one thing I thought of last night was that I may have mixed-up the COP connectors to the factory coil connectors. Would having 1/4 & 2/3 firing order mixed up cause the loud backfires?? Will pull off sheathing tonight and check wire color to verify correct triggers.
At any rate, I haz sad.

Composite log is in the diagnostic tab. It shows the cam and crank teeth signals. But if you have backfire it means you got fuel which means it probably isn't cranks/cam sensor related.

I was an idiot. Had coil connectors backwards. Verified trigger wires and she fired right up. Sitting idling now breaking turbo in.

Videos will likely have to wait. Busy week for me.
Just have a stupid snap video of her idling. Forgot the GoPro.
Next weekend will consist of maybe getting bumper back on and addressing the hood-no-hit-turbo problem.
But she idled for 45 minutes and zero leaks (except the damn valve cover... I can NEVER get a valvecover to seal. ever. )
Never been in a turbo miata before, let alone drive one. This could get interesting quick. Will have to drive out of boost for a few hundred miles to break in new clutch, so hopefully I can get all the little quirks out before I delve deep into positive pressure land.

Yea I plan on making some sort of an all-thread 'perma-open' wastegate rod.
I'm pretty self-controlled.
Told myself I'd keep this car 'mostly stock', just suspension/roll bar.
Told myself I'd only do a 'rod-only refresh' engine build
Told myself I'd be ok with Naturally aspirated
Told myself a 2560r would suffice
Edit :
Proof that it was doing something.

G what treadstone intercooler are you running? Tr6/8? I'm torn on one of those vs the Fab9 stage 2. Not particularly interested in the trimming to core support that the Fab9 involves, nor the sealed-to-mouth mounting aspect of it either.

Choofoojoo, I am mounting a Treadstone TR6 this week (Wednesday), I can send you some pictures once I have it mounted up to show the trimming of the bumper opening and how it sits compared to the mouth.
I went with the TR6 over the 350HP Fab 9 intercooler due to the fin count and turbulators present in the TR6 over the Fab9 core. From the pictures I have seen of the 350 Fab 9 unit, there is much higher density in the TR6, however there are rumors of the vibrant core that Fab 9 uses being updated.

Sweet. Thanks Will! I'd come lend a hand if I wasn't working all Wednesday. I found in EO2K's thread the section about him mountimg his TR8. Looks pretty tight but not unmanageable.
I've read/seen the same vibrant vs treadstone core pics. Supposedly the new updated high-turbulator core has been in use on the 500 for a while, and now the 350 core has been updated as well. My FM unit should do just fine for interim power levels, but I'm after keeping intake charges as cool as reasonably possible with my high-comp bottom-end.
Also, my OEM knock sensor is not being recognized by megasquirt anymore. Need to test it somehow to see if the sensor is dead, or if I fubar'd some wires somewhere along the way.

From what I've measured, I think the TR8 is about as tight as you can get before you really have to start cutting things up and making serious compromises.

#noneofit
Made my #noneofit I-have-no-self-control break-in thingamajig.
Also made up a heat shield.. thing. Two licence plates with some Summit Lava crap sticky heat-shield material. It kinda works. Had it idling for ~45 min today checking for leaks everywhere and could comfortably touch the back side of the shield with bare skin.
