Default VT: 1993 Impreza with FULL 2005 2.5T STI Swap, and so much more! ($11.5K)

Greetings fellow auto enthusiast!

I know, I know, it's not a Turbo Miata. But you opened it, which means you have an appreciation for the finer things in life, like an AWD rocket that has 3 LSDs, and roughly 3x its birth horsepower. This thing absolutely rocks, meanwhile having crisp acceleration, awesome braking and WRX STI handling, shifting, and steering. I will dearly miss it if it goes away, but I simply don't drive it enough. I have been riding my bicycle to work, and only occasionally twisting the key in this thing over the spring/summer, meanwhile it is also only selectively driven in winter. It really yearns & deserves to be enjoyed. I'm hoping someone on here will get a kick out of it.

For sale: 1993 Subaru Impreza wagon. All suspension, brakes, engine, transmission, differentials, wiring, and dashboard/climate control from a 2005 W R X S T I. Interior has carpet from 2005 STI, seats from a 2002 W R X, door cards from 2000 2.5 R S (to fit w/ S T I dash), and a full complement of gauges. The car is not tweaked for "more power", because I have felt for the two years that I have owned the car since completion that it is powerful enough, and I cherish the notion that it is basically a factory(ish) car, and should just work, for years to come, with proper maintenance and care.

Extensive work was done to prevent any rust from creeping in, and the rocker panels were even removed, strengthened, and put back to allow for the convenience of jacking on the rocker panels. Carbon fiber wheel arch flares were molded in to allow for wider tires to be accommodated. The rear seat was custom upholstered to maintain the folding capability, while matching the fabric to the front seats. Two rear spoilers were incorporated, and all of this was painted in Nissan 370z black cherry pearl. A tow hitch was added, which has come in super handy in the life the car has come to have, including picking up several motorcycles, bringing leaves and yard-waste to the dump, etc. I also have a truck, but w/ this car's better-than-truck gas mileage, it is often the go to for tasks like this. Let's face it, the suspension and brakes were designed to thrill the driver of a heavier car, and the motor has 300 reliable factory horsepower. It's up to many challenges, these only scarce among them. The wagon shape is super practical for every day use, but this car would be equally at home on the track. It may also dice tomatoes, but I haven't tried this.

This car starts up, runs, pulls, handles, and stops, like a dream come true. I have too many cars, a 1 mile commute, and it seems a shame to have it just sit there, most every day, NOT putting a smile on someone's face.

The car is located in Williston, VT.

Asking $11,500. (I have WAY more "invested"). One could not reproduce this car for this price, without also selling both kidneys.

[Someone asked the following questions]
Would you hesitate at all on driving the car across the country?

Did you perform all the upgrades yourself?

Does it need any final touches at all or are you completely satisfied with it?

What's the current mileage on the Sti motor?
[/Someone asked the following questions]

[my answers]

I would drive this car anywhere; add gas, continue. I intentionally kept the driveline stock, as this car is amply quick without making it questionably reliable by asking for more power. The car has never let me down. One could certainly take it further, and make it even faster, but coming from a 1.8L NA motor, I have never wished it was more powerful.

I actually didn't do ANY of this car's work myself. I was working on another project, (a Nissan SR20det swapped Miata I still have) at the time, and only having 2 hands, I basically commissioned this car to be built by a very talented local shop called Kale's Customs, in Colchester VT. While it took longer than expected/predicted to complete the project, that is absolutely the only complaint anyone could have about how it came together. I went and picked up the two cars in PA (to avoid the New England rust monster), and dropped them off at Kale's Customs. I took a day off from work to kick-off the project, and helped them strip out the cars as much as we could in a day... then they took over and did a phenomenal job. I actually intended to use the car all year, but when it was done it I found it to be too nice to subject to New England winters. It being a 4th car right now, along with me having two Miatas and a Motorcycle that I only drive during the summer... me not wanting to use it in the winter... --all means it basically is too nice for me to own.

The STI (motor/driveline/everything else I kept from it) had just under 80,000 miles when I got the STI donor, and now the STI odometer reads just under 90,000 (89k). The wagon had about 1000 fewer miles than the STI when the motor went in, so it felt like a wholesome marriage, and allows me to think of "the car" as having the # of miles the odometer reads.

Here's some details from an ad I placed on Craigslist:

The car is located in Williston, VT.

Here are the Vin #"s of the two respective cars:

Automobile VIN (1993 Wagon) #: JF1GF2441PB802535
Automobile VIN (05 S T I): JF1GD70625L520759

My goals for the car were to have it be a fun, reliable, ice racing, sleeper. The mint green color boldly checked that last box, and keeping the 05 STI donor parts stock assured the rest. I have maintained this philosophy with two exceptions (both diversions (the last two) to your benefit). While I did ice race it the year it was completed, the very next year I brought it in for some "improvements" that resulted in it receiving $10000+ worth of bodily attention, including extensive strengthening of the pinch welds for ease of jacking one whole side of the car, molded in carbon fiber flares that would help to accommodate some wheels/tires I got a "good deal on" that were too wide for the factory would then fit under the flares properly and ward off Johnny-law. It also received EXTENSIVE rust-proofing attention during the visit. All known orifices were filled with a waxy oil (specifically for its creep tendencies), to prevent rust from inside out, and the underneath was also sprayed with the same. That particular visit to improvement land also resulted in quite a few more "while the hood is up's": extended wheels studs and titanium open lugs for speed/ease of wheel/tire changes, Rally-Armor urethane mud flaps, Rennline aluminum front and rear tow hooks, new front wheel bearings, & a new power steering rack, and interchangeable stock STI muffler, (so I could put the extra loud one on a shelf, in case the next owner wanted a louder more free-flowing exhaust, they could v-band replace it in just a few minutes, preserving the stock one for if they need to drive the car to a wedding or funeral or such).... I prefer the quiet-er all the time, but I've probably been around a couple more decades then the average person who would appreciate this car for what it is. After this elaborate visit to Kale's, the car was so pretty, I couldn't bring myself to risk wheel to wheel ice racing. So I got a cheaper, older front wheel drive for ice racing last year. And the Subaru began its phase of "seeming extra". I have ended up using this car the way most people use their Small SUV. I use it for Home Depot trips, bringing leaves to the dump with a little wooden trailer I have, iiterally getting groceries. While the car is eager and willing to help w/ such tasks, it seems like it has fallen into the wrong hands. Someone should be enjoying this thing for what it is... a beautiful, reliable, comfortable, MONSTER!

Here's a paste from a spreadsheet I have detailing everything I have done to the vehicle:

If you're just hoping to take a peek at this car, feign an interest long enough to try it, or just stop by and talk for hours, ... I understand, but PLEASE DON'T. To my knowledge we only get once chance at this carnival ride that is life, and I value my time above all other things. If on the other hand, you are an $12.5-thousand-aire, and this car feels pretty irresistible: You're right, and I'd love to show you around it, and answer any questions you might have.

I'm happy to give my phone number to anyone who seems genuinely interested, please contact by pm first.
