Default VT: <<SOLD>> 1999 Mazda Miata turbo (FMII), 70k miles, crazy fun ($9k)

UPDATE: Car has sold.

Greetings fellow auto enthusiast!

This little RWD rocket that has an LSD, and roughly twice its birth horsepower. I will dearly miss it if it goes away, but I simply don't drive it enough. I have been riding my bicycle to work, and only occasionally twisting the key in this thing over the spring/summer, meanwhile it is stored in the winter. It really yearns & deserves to be enjoyed. I'm hoping someone on here will get a kick out of it.

I purchased this car in 2010 from Nebraska, and have not driven it in the winter at all. I sought one specifically that had not been driven in the winter, so there's no rust on the car. It still has only 70k miles, and is in great shape, starts, runs, accelerates, and stops very well. It's an amazing car; my favorite of all time to be honest. The only reason I'm considering selling this car is because I built a kit car, and all that blood, sweat, & tears makes that one harder to part with. Further, I have only one me, and can't use more than one summer car at a time, so this one seems redundant. I know I'll regret it, because the kit car doesn't have a roof/doors, and this one is so much more practical, if it gets chilly or rains for example... But all the blood, sweat, & tears that went into the kit car. You know. Truth is, if you don't want it, and nobody else does either, I win, because I tried, and I was meant to keep it! If you do, you win, because seriously, it's amazing.

1999 Miata 1.8L FMII Turbo kit. This kit alone costs ~5500, and is widely accepted as the best (most reliable/convenient/predictable) way to turbo charge a Miata. The kit has been on the car for ~30,000 miles, and works as well as when it was installed, which is great.

I Purchased it in 2010 with 55k miles for $10,500.00, (far less than the sum of its parts already).

Please see my other auctions if you're curious what else I have that might pique your interest. I pretty much listed all my cars this morning, and "we'll see what sells".

Asking $9k.

The only thing this car "needs" is tires, as I tend to use them until they are no longer usable, and this particular set is pretty close to that point. That said, if you would like, I could consider substituting the rims/tires you see on the one kit car picture at the end of the list of images, then it would need nothing. Your call, I'm a little torn about which rims I like better on the kit car, but perhaps you could help me to decide.

Many photos:

I'm confused about one thing, "I Purchased it in 2010 with 75k miles." For sale, "70k miles, crazy fun ($9k)"

Thanks ridewhencan, good eye on my typo. The mileage when I bought it was 55k. I have records for oil changes back to that point, as recorded in the very poorly formatted maintenance log below the price.

I fixed it in the original ad with an edit just now, thanks again!

It is. I will reply to this forum saying it is sold if it gets sold. Please let me know with any further questions, or to set up a time to stop by and see what you're missing! Thanks for your potential interest.

I have not. The previous owner showed me a 250whp dyno at one point. I believe it. This is my 2nd of three turbo Miatas.

I have never wished or requested that this car be more powerful than the day that I got it. I had, (somewhat recently sold), another Miata in parallel that I worked on way more often than I drove it. It had a Nissan Sylvia motor in it, 2.0 with a bigger turbo, and almost 400 whp. That car was more powerful, but I always liked this one more.

This FMII kit is just seamless. It has been VERY reliable, and has what I consider to be the perfect power to weight ratio for this car/chassis. It will power oversteer if you ask it to, but it won't if you don't. Its brother was a bit less predictable, which was fun; sure, but not as useful in the real world of street and track use. This truly has been my favorite fun car of all time. I just find that after putting an average of 1,875 miles/year on it for the past 8 years, it is clear I just don't need it. I'm thinking of investing the money instead, so that money can grow while the car makes someone else enthusiastically happy in parallel. You can see from my words that I'm not adverse to talking someone out of it if it's not what's exactly right for them, ... worst case I have my favorite car of all time even longer, --but I am not trying to mislead anyone into buying the car either.

If you (or anyone) is looking to accomplish bragging rights horsepower-wise, you can do better than this car, (or buy it and start risking its well being). But if you're looking for a "stock-FMII" with all of the important cooling system, suspension, and brake needs well-met to be a reliable street and/or track car, this would suit you perfectly. With your one question, it strikes me you may bell be looking for a different car than mine.

Thanks,
Jeff
