So I'm sure most everyone knows about this by now. But it's crazy. Been watching the live cameras in Hawaii and the west coast. Hope it doesn't hit us too hard. Japan is the kind of country we need to help...we shouldn't have wasted all those resources on Hati...some help yes, but not as much as we did.
By far, this is the most astounding image to me so far-

Yeah I have not heard and specifics about the nuclear plant other than they were shut down, but all they said was that "not everything is going according to plan".
So how much is this going to jack up gas prices for us now?

From what I heard one of the pumps for the water is malfuctioning and their not getting enough energy from the backup diesel generators as they also have been effected by the quake. Just one of the nuclear stations having this issue right now iirc.
On a 'real tip' note, that place is getting rocked.
No time wasted apparently on busting jokes....
High expectations asian father is disappoint.
*meh*

* Police say 200 to 300 bodies found in northeastern coastal area
* Coast guard searching for ship carrying 80 workers
* Fires triggered by the quake burn up and down the coast
* 'Nuclear emergency' declared after problems at Japanese plant
* Evacuation order issued to thousands near different nuclear plant
* Japanese PM cites 'major damage'; calls for 'spirit of fraternity'
* First tsunami waves hit Hawaii, sweep though islands
* California emergency agency spokesman says evacuations 'very possible'
I work for Yamaha, obviously the company is based in Japan. A lot of people at this facility can't reach their family back home, so it's a very grim day here right now. My mom lives in Kapa'a, Kauai in the Hawaiian chain, which is one of the first islands hit by the waves there and I haven't been able to get in touch with her either, I've been trying since early this morning.
If you're asking about Hawaii, they did know. They apparently had emergency sirens going off every hour throughout the night and expected the first of the waves to hit just after 3am their time. The whole western side of North, Central, and South America from Alaska down will be bracing for waves too:
