To be fair, in most communities doesn't Wal-Mart low wages contribute to more gov't dependence through the use of food stamps and welfare? Thereby putting a larger burden on the tax base of the communities in which they operate?
I mean look at Costco, they seem to do fine while paying decent wages and the CEO not taking millions upon millions a year.

Focusing on real economic growth would be a great start. Pay tends to increase when your only choice for work is not Wal-Mart, as people currently claim when asked why they work there. You could also re-evaluate how you dish out social welfare. If you let people go hungry or straddle that line they might be more inclined to use their collective power as a work force to organize against Wal-Mart and get better pay on their own. If they can be comfortably poor then there is no need for them to put forth the effort. I am pretty anti-union but sometimes they have a place and I feel that most places tend to get the union they deserve.

While Wal-Mart is, in my opinion, the epitome of an evil corporation for a whole host of reasons I do not think their rate of pay should be forced. How about the government changes its own behavior in such a way have other factors besides legislation force Wal-Mart's hand.

Now if you want to talk Welfare reform (maybe lets change it to WORKfare?) and reforming the tax code for the purpose of growing the economy........that's a great and worthy debate.

Oh yeah you're right, there are NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO jobs in the DC metro area. So lets make it harder for non-skilled workers to compete with the college educated unemployed!
Just for a frame of reference, Wal-Mart is, in my opinion, the epitome of all that's good in humanity and if you can't embrace that notion, then the world will never be a better place and we will always have suffering, class warfare, and silly progressive ideas like collectivism.

I specifically don't go to wal-mart because I hate all the people there. I also fear I will get some gross disease from all the nasty people that touch everything there. That place is just a pool of unhygienic people. I'd wager the rate is 1/100 for people that shop there and wash their hands after going to the *******.

Whenever I tell my wife that I'm going to mingle among the great unwashed, she knows I'm going to Wal-Mart.
It does have it's therapeutic value however. No matter how bad you feel about your position in life, wandering around Wal-Mart can make you feel like high society.
