Or is this administration different?

I actually didn't insinuate that. I stated that they have worked to protect free speech even if it constitutes hate speech.

It was a good example of an actual cover-up by the gov't about an event. Coincidentally, playing ball and lying to America for her boss got her the NSA position. Flynn resigned amid conservatory, she flourished from it.

There was some talk re: Obama deportations being the highest in record, but I found this interesting.

"One distinct feature of the record number of deportations is the increasing share of deportations by U.S. Customs and Border Protection after border apprehension. In 2013, 25% of all deportations were carried out by the agency, up from 17% in 2012. Meanwhile, the number of deportations carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which deports people caught both at the border and the interior of the country, fell in 2013 compared with 2012."

That said, the rhetoric used when describing the actions of the government, especially related to things like this. Obama was way better than Trump has been about being pretty upfront about who (whom?) they're targeting. Trump's word vomit often leads to him saying things that either belie his true intentions or just come off daft and insulting to large groups of people.

Did President Obama Deport More People Than Any Other President?

The administration at the time didn't corroborate the info that it was a random act/protest that got out of hand. Just one person did and they spoke out before any sort of inquiry.

I think the administration did downplay a terrorist act because it was 9/11. I suppose they wanted the clock to run out so other groups wouldn't jump to copycat acts elsewhere, but that's pure conjecture on my part.

The GOP led Benghazi crusade came up without anything damning. You know they were trying to

Sorry man. My back decided to flip a shit and lock up in the middle of finals week and I'm all out of happy pills.

Then again folks called Obama muslim forever and still do. There's annoying folks on every side of the aisle.

Haha, I'm pretty liberal, but I see hypocrisy on both sides of the aisle.

For instance, I saw the extrajudicial killing of an American citizen by the Obama administration as hugely problematic.

I have really mixed feelings on the ACLU.

On the one hand, they are notorious (nefarious?) for defending causes which I find to be reprehensible, such as legal motions which raise exceedingly trivial and esoteric causes of action in SJW-esque tirades against causes and organizations which are essentially aligned with the foundational tenets of American individual liberty, the free-market economy, and the spirit of equality opportunity vs. equality of outcome.

On the other hand, they have gone to the mattresses on more than one occasion in defense of causes which are, themselves, reprehensible, but are none the less protected under the umbrella of the Bill of Rights and thus essential to a true and unfettered free nation.

So, in light of all that, I genuinely respect and concur with your opinion on the matter. I disagree with the ACLU >90% of the time, and yet, I love them. Despite the fact that they often appear to exude a strong institutional bias, when the cards are down, they really are (usually) an objective and fair organization.

Which is why both liberals and conservatives hate their guts quite a bit. They went up against the Obama administration quite a bit too.

And yup, that's pretty much how I think as well except swapped.. I agree with them most of the time, but I respect them even when I disagree with them. They're pretty steadfast in their stated pursuit.

Ted Kennedy?s Secret Appeal to Russia to Hurt Reagan

Democrats Secretly Worked With Russia to Oppose My Dad

The 2nd article is more interesting because it's current and includes our recent president. And both just helps to illustrate our political institutions are screwed and as John Dalberg-Acton once said, "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men."

We really do need to enact term limits for all federal level politicians and remove money from politics.

Braineack 02-16-2017 09:23 AM

yeah, but in one case someone actively worked with a foreign enemy: the KGB, and our media to try undermine an election.

in the other case, the NSA to the pres-elect causally asked the Russians: dont nuke me, bro.

term limits wont solve the problem and will create other issues. Plus you can't say you're for democracy, but then tell voters they can't have the representatives they want. A few states already have these rules, and it doesn't benefit the citizens of that state, since the only elect new junior congressmen each year who have no political influence, and have the spend their term limits learning the ropes, only to be ousted by a silly rule.

Gimpster 02-16-2017 10:39 AM

I am also dubious of term limits being a solution to the problem. Keep in mind, many bills are literally written by lobbyists.... many of whom happen to be ex-politicians. Even if they are not "in office" they can hold a position of power for life. I happen to have a long serving Senator who I feel has done a lot of good for Iowa, I should toss him out on his ass because he's been there too long?

That said, I am curious what the founders would think at times. I don't believe they had career politicians in mind when they framed everything, but it is what it is.

I disagree in the sense the current way isn't working. And you know what, once everyone is a "junior congressman/senator" then maybe they'll figure out that working across the aisle actually gets shit done. I've considered the minuses. And I'm all for democracy, every bit as much as you. When the amount of money in the system is what drives the system then democracy isn't being accomplished. You can argue all you want...

Ah yes, the lobbyists... again money + power. Get rid of it as in outlaw it.

The founders, by in large the ones who framed the powers, were monied white male landowners. Figure it out.

If you were white, male and a landowner (which automatically put you in a higher bracket back then) you had a vote. If not, tough.
